It means, “If you are tired, we can take a little rest, sinc

6、ay of showing concern is usually expressed by statement. In the West: A: How are you doing now? Would you like to rest? B: No, not a bit. If you want to make successful intercultural communication, you must possess both
10、 intercultural knowledge and English language competence.,2012-2-16,12,The Purpose,The general purpose of this course is to understand the ways in which culture interrelates with and affects communication processes. Intercultural learning involves affective and behavioral processes, as well as cogni
11、tive ones. Throughout this course, you will have the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills and attitudes that will increase your intercultural communication competence.,2012-2-16,2012-2-16,13,The Objectives 1) Participation in this course will enable students to: Identify some of the cultural aspect
12、s of verbal and nonverbal behavior, assumptions, attitudes, values and other characteristics of people from different cultures Identify areas in which cultural differences can cause problems in intercultural communication Understand the concepts of “culture”, “communication”, and “interpersonal comm

14、short, informal record on readings, lectures, intercultural contacts, etc. Try to use log to develop ideas and questions, to reflect on in-class and out-of class discussion, and to plan for the final paper. Remember that log writing is a free exercise. Dont revise it or agonize over correctness. Con
15、sider it a form of conversation on paper in which the dialog, not the form, is what matters.,2012-2-16,Log Writing (20%),Students will be asked to write at least 10 logs. Evaluation mainly depends on the logs expressiveness or communication effects, rather than the form.,2012-2-16,Oral Presentation
16、(20%),Students will be divided into two-member groups. Each class, one presentation. Your presentation is an opportunity for you to get some practice in speaking in front of a group. It should cover a topic that interests you. Ideas for topics must be related to intercultural communication. You need to present the phenomenon and then analyze the reasons.
