8、ents he was unable to move, and it was easy for the two men to put him into the train.5whenbuck woke up,the trainwasstillmoving.the man wassittingandwatchinghim,butbuck was tooquick forhimand he bitthemans hand hard.then theropewas pulled again and buck had to let go.6that evening, the man took buck

12、en, where afatman in an old red coatwas waiting.buckwas now very angry indeed and he jumped andbit at the sides of his box. the fat mansmiled and went to get an ax and a club. asthe fat man hit the box with his ax, buckjumped at the sides, growling and biting,pullingwithhisteethatthepiecesofbroken w
13、ood. after a few minutes there was a hole big enough for buck to get out.8now,come here,redeyes,saidthe fatman, droppinghisax and takingthe club in his right hand.9 buck jumped at the man, sixty kilos of anger, his mouth wide open, readyto bite the mans neck. just before his teeth touched the skin,

18、e man broughthim waterand meat, buckdrank and then ate themeat,piece by piece, from the mans hand.12 buck was beaten (heknew that)but he was not broken. he had learnt that aman witha clubwas strongerthan him. everyday he saw more dogs arrive,and each dog wasbeaten by the fatman. buck understoodthata

31、itten her; he bit her a second time ,andjumped away.when sheattackedhimagain, he knocked her backwards, and shefellon theground.she never stood up again,because this was what the other dogs werewaiting for. in a moment she was under acrowd of dogs.23 it was all very sudden. bucksaw spitz run out fro
32、m the crowd with histongue out of his mouth, laughing. then hesaw franois with an ax, and two or threeothermen withclubs jump in among thedogs.two minutes later the last of the dogs waschased away. but curlylaydead inthesnow ,herbodytornalmosttopieces.curlysdeath often came backto buck inhis dreams.
