Yuanxiao is a kind of sweet dumpling, which is made with sticky rice flour filled with sweet stuffing. And the Festival is 3 named after the famous dumpling. It is very easy to cook - simply dump them in a pot of boiling water for a few minutes - and eaten as a desert. Guessing lantern riddles 猜灯谜 “Guessing lantern riddles“is an essential part of the Festival. Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns. If visitors have solutions to the riddles, they can pull the paper out and go to the lantern owners to check their answer. If they are right, they will get a little gift. The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty (960- 1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata. In the daytime of the Festival, performances such as a dragon lantern dance, a lion dance, a land boat dance, a yangge dance, walking on stilts and beating drums while dancing will be staged. Some local governments will even organize a fireworks party. On the night when the first full moon enters the New Year, people become really intoxicated by the imposing fireworks and bright moon in the sky. 端午节在中国农历的五月初五(the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar) ,所以 也叫重五节(Double Fifth Festival ) 。主要庆祝活动(celebration)包括吃粽子 (zongzi/sticky rice wrap/sticky rice dumpling with red bean filling/sticky rice ball) 、喝雄黄酒 (realgar wine)与赛(racing)龙舟。 主要目的是驱邪(ward off evil)或祛病(ward off disease ) 。 因此在民国时期(Republic of China) ,它 也叫诗人节(Poets Day) 。 中秋节 Mid-autumn day / -autumn Festival 中秋节 Moon Festival / Mooncake Festival / Moon Festival 中秋节 mooncake 月饼 Appreciate /enjoy the Moon 赏月 mooncakes with meat / nuts / 肉馅/果仁/ 蛋黄月饼 ham mooncake 火腿月饼 grapefruit / pomelo / shaddock 柚子 glue pudding 汤圆 lantern / scaldfish 灯笼 Chang E flies to the moon 嫦娥奔月 Hou Yi shoot down nine suns 后羿射日 Wu Gang cuts the laurel 吴刚伐桂 relative activities 相关活动: gather to admire the bright mid-autumn harvest moon 聚在一起赏月 light lantern 点灯笼 put the sky lights 放天灯 carry the lantern around 提灯笼 burn incense 烧香 fire dragon dances 火龙舞 The custom of worshipping the moon 拜月的习俗 worshippe the full moon 拜满月的习俗 family reunion 家庭团聚 / 圆 pomegranates(石榴)pomelos(柚子)taro(芋头)caltrope(菱角) May the people live forever, and share the moon shine across vast distances together. I have loved you all so long -我心相属,日久月长。 Delighting in your company-与卿相依,地老天荒 came out to watch the full moon to celebrate the festival 到户外赏月 the custom of Mid-Autumn Festival celebration 庆祝中秋节的习俗 中秋节:Mid-autumn Festival;Mid-autumn Day;The Moon Festival Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! “Zhong Qiu Jie“, which is also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. It is a time for family members and loved ones to congregate and enjoy the full moon - an auspicious symbol of abundance, harmony and luck. Adults will usually indulge in fragrant mooncakes of many varieties with a good cup of piping hot 5 Chinese tea, while the little ones run around with their brightly-lit lanterns. “Zhong Qiu Jie“ probably began as a harvest festival. The festival was later given a mythological flavour with legends of Chang-E, the beautiful lady in the moon. According to Chinese mythology, the earth once had 10 suns circling over it. One day, all 10 suns appeared together, scorching the earth with their heat. The earth was saved when a strong archer, Hou Yi, succeeded in shooting down 9 of the suns. Yi stole the elixir of life to save the people from his tyrannical rule, but his wife, Chang-E drank it. Thus started the legend of the lady in the moon to whom young Chinese girls would pray at the Mid-Autumn Festival. In the 14th century, the eating of mooncakes at “Zhong Qiu Jie“ was given a new significance. The story goes that when Zhu Yuan Zhang was plotting to overthrow the Yuan Dynasty started by the Mongolians, the rebels hid their messages in the Mid-Autumn mooncakes. Zhong Qiu Jie is hence also a commemoration of the overthrow of the Mongolians by the Han people. During the Yuan Dynasty (A.D.1206-1368) China was ruled by the Mongolian people. Leaders from the preceding Sung Dynasty (A.D.960-1279) were unhappy at submitting to foreign rule, and set how to coordinate the rebellion without it being discovered. The leaders of the rebellion, knowing that the Moon Festival was drawing near, ordered the making of special cakes. Packed into each mooncake was a message with the outline of the attack. On the night of the Moon Festival, the rebels successfully attacked and overthrew the government. What followed was the establishment of the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1368-1644). Today, moon cakes are eaten to commemorate this event. October 1st. is Chinas National Day. Chinese people are going to celebrate their National Day on October The Great Wall, one of the greatest wonders of the world, was enlisted in the World Heritage in “you are not a real hero until you have climbed the Great Wall”.
