cell-phone and to do all the things that they were unable to do. often, however, the strong desire that parents have for their children are another cause of the disagreement between them. often, they discover that they have very little in common with each other. finally, the speed at which changes take place in modern society is another cause of the gap between the generations. in a traditional culture, elderly people are valued for their wisdom, but in modern society, the knowledge of a lifetime may become out of date overnight. the young and the old seem to live in two very different worlds, separated by different skills and abilities. nowadays, many young people are complaining that their parents can not understand them very well. they say that their parents take care of every aspect of their lives, leaving them a neighbor to have their private space. yet parents are worried that their children dont show any respect to them and never give them any trust. consequently, the household phrases spreading, it is the generation gap. by using this phrase, both the young and the old have found a good explanation for their misunderstanding of each other. yet they dont bother to take any measures to cover the distance between them. in my opinion, i think we should first admit that there are indeed some differences between parents and children, then we should try to take some time to communicate with each other frequently. not only the parents but also the kids should be equal when theyre exchanging their views. only by the joint efforts can the parents and children breach the generation gap between them. generation gap generation gap refers to the distance and contradiction(矛盾) between the old and the youth. its a common(常见的) phenomenon(现象) that exits everywhere in the world and influences both the old and the youth. generally speaking, generation gap results in different understanding and appreciation of the great and constant(固定的) changes of the world, different reaction to new things, and different attitudes to tradition(传统) principles(原则) and beliefs. therefore, we may say where there are the old and the youth; there is the generation gap. generation gap is natural, but very influential(有影响 的). if we cannot deal with it appropriately(适当地), the gap will be greater and the greater and consequently(结 果) affect the work and the relation between the old and the young. the barriers between generations do exist, yet, they are removable. firstly, i suggest the older generation try to learn more about the new things. and, they should seize every chance to talk with their children about their new “discoveries”. in this way, both sides may find something in common between them. secondly, young people should also learn to appreciate the hobbies or tastes of the old. do not undervalue those traditional treasures, like peking opera. thirdly, the two generations are supposed to spare some time for communication regularly, or write to each other, as writing is a good way of communication. to sum up, to narrow the generation gap, people should regard mutual understanding as the most important thing. the parent-adolescent conflict is more common and more intense during adolescence than during any other period of time. they may squabble about even some trivial things, such as dating friends, making hairstyles, wearing strange clothes, listening to blaring music. the children in adolescence are very sensitive to new things and so willing to take venture that they are more likely to accept new things. by contrast, their parents are confined by the traditional ways and experience and become conservational, especially those who are undergoing the menopause and easy to be irritated in particular. it turns out that their children rebel against their guidance which may be accepted by children if it is intelligently offered.therefore, they see things in different perspectives. another cause resulting in the generation gap is that information reaches the children through a variety of informers. children would like to communicate with their peers more frankly and frequently than with their parents. in addition to peers, the advanced information network and public media like televisions, radios and magazines replace the parents and teachers to be the main resources that impart knowledge and concept, which may be quite different from those of their parents. third, the social environment has something to do with the gap. it respects the independence of children and gives the children more freedom to handling their affairs. shenzheng has invalidated the rights of parents to read their childrens diaries. some parents are opposed to it by arguing f
