There are great differences in theme selection, character and action arrangement between Chinese and American cartoon movies, which reflect different values and pursuits between Chinese and American cultures.As a unique movie category, cartoon movies are still widely spread among audiences at all ages, with its cartoon image elements, childish emotion and fantastical imagination around the world. Cartoon movie, as the important carrier of a societys communication, makes audiences receive the writers purpose in a relaxing and funny atmosphere. Therefore, the paper aims to state the cultural differences between China and America from the concrete embodiment of the cartoon films and studies the specific reasons for the differences, through the analysis of the popular cartoon movies both in western countries and China. IntroductionAlice in Wonderland in 19th ,the industrial era of the smell of London.Under the background of the era,mostly are more conservative,not accept and objective reality contrary to the idea, following the traditional rules, the thought is confined, people are accustomed to obedience rather than resistance, highlighting the self. Alice is a little bit of a rebel in the dress, have their own ideas of the girl. Her dreams, her rebellion against the other people in the background of the times.May be trapped by the times, Alice in childhood that childlike ideas cannot be adults understand these innocent and lovely child of her thoughts, behaviors, real personality by adults, by the age of dogma that oppresses, cannot express, very few people understand. So, these ideas were suppressed at the bottom of my heart, in the form of dream imagery out, these childish ideas may be magnified in the dream, may become more exaggerated, regardless of whether they were amplified, Alice was released in the dream, feel a kind of happiness. This dream from six years old has been to accompany her to go to the age of nineteen, the dream of the repeated may indicate that there is a deep heart has not completed the event, waiting for her to deal with.2. The Adventure spirits of Adolescents in the Film-Alice in WonderlandIt is a hotpot to study culture or civilization in the research of the humanities in the 20th century. In the global world, the cultural differences and conflicts are unavoidable topic between China and America. People like to discuss the defects and merits of Chinese and western culture, but they are lacking of awareness about the fundamental nature of cultural differences and conflicts. Analyzing the differences between Chinese and American cultures through the vision of cartoon movies is a topic that combined practicality and interestingness. As a unique movie category, Cartoon movies are still widely spread with its cartoon image elements, childish emotion and fantastical imagination around the world.Nowadays, cartoon movie, as the important carrier of a societys communication, is an important form to propagandize culture thought and ideology. As for cartoon movies, there are a lot of differences between China and America in themes selection, character and action arrangement, which reflect different values and pursuits between China and America. The most important, as a kind of fashion presentation, cartoon movies explain different levels of national culture. At the same time, Chinese and American cultures also have obvious differences in animation industry, values and market demand reflecting the cultural differences between Chinese and American. 2. 1 The Cultural Differences in Cartoon Movies Components Selection2.1.1 Cartoon Movies ThemeChinese cartoon movie themes are quite unitary. Edutainment applied to the head of the cultural spirit to Chinese cartoon movies. China is the birthplace of Confucian culture, as a traditional spirit of Chinese cartoon movie, edutainment has its inevitability and rationality. Under the Confucian culture, Chinese traditional writings are conveying truth, and the way of thinking and aesthetic expectation imply the strong demand for edutainment. Regardless of the early story Princess Iron Fan, Proud General, Little Tadpole Looking for Mom or later story The Tales of Avanti, Big Head Son and Small Head Father and Lotus Lantern, all embody the strong spirit of Edutainment. Whatever darling animated characters or legendary heroes they are, the themes of the Chinese cartoon movies have embodied the profound influence of the traditional Confucian culture (Li Sanqiang, 2006:11-13).In most cartoon films, the themes all come from the adaptation of fable stories, myths, legends and historical stories, which are lacking of imagination and creativity. It is more old-fashioned. In the development of animation industry, we cant have been holding the civilization of five thousand years, so it is hard to go out of the cage of its own. Our animation master Wan Laiming once recalled that Chinese cartoon movie is different from the western in subject choosing. We have no time to joke on the Chinese hard time, and we want to make people wake up. Chinese animations blindly focus on young children, and more audience just can accept such a concept that animation should be like a nanny to care for their children. We need to correct all these ideas, and its overall narrative strategy requires us to consider. Chinese cartoon movies need to absorb and draw lessons from other culture. Chinese should explore the regularity and seek cultural personality and creativity. Only finding out the right narrative strategy and the way, it really can create independent Chinese animation, and Chinese cartoon movies can really go to the world.As an immigrant country, the important features of the American culture are inclusive, diverse and open. A large number of immigrants from Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America, came to the dreamy America with a dream. They brought local tradition, religious customs, and habits and so forth to the United States, which became the foundation of Americas diversified development. In the United States, it is able to find the shadow of any nations culture. American can fuse all national culture, because it does not have its own traditional culture, thus they created the new culture that has attracted the attention of the whole world.American cartoon movies are based on a wide range of contents, like Arab story One Thousand Nights, the German fairy tale Snow White, Chinese history story Hua Mulan; animal stories The Lion King, Finding Nemo, Baby in Vegetables; Small Mount Tai Series about the relationship between man and nature and science fiction film Transformers.All kinds of subjects can be found in American cartoon movies, so we can always see cartoon movies constantly, which are leading the world cartoon movie trend. Changing themes and jumping plots of the story are not restricted to its culture. It is just a kind of repacking. In other words, the local culture has been tampered completely by American culture. We once again fell into a deliberate manipulation of narrative trap. We see Disney the cultural industry roller crushed the local culture and customs, and overturned its intrinsic values to ensure the box-office income, but it turns other countries cultures into the American themes, and vividly explained the American dream and the strong individualism (Shi, 2014:353-354). For example, the Kung Fu Panda shows the Chinese elements everywhere, such as Chinese music, panda, Chinese traditional food dumplings, steamed buns, steamed bread and special beef noodles with soup, which all embody the Chinese flavor (Shi, 2014:353-354). American applied the Chinese elements and the Chinese culture to this film, so they subtly used the traditional Chinese culture and Chinese martial arts in the film to show the world.National heroism and individualism can be found behind relaxing and happy American animation contents, and in their opinion, the hero is not only the hero of the United States, it is also the hero of mankind, and he has a responsibility to protect and save the mentality of mankind (Li Hong, 2013:22-24). Individualism has its profound historical background. Actually, individualism can be traced back to the l4th century, when the earliest sprout of individualism emerged during the Italian cultural Renaissance movement. Later, after the argument and spread of French enlightenment in the18th century, it made a progress in the United States. The early immigrants groups of Americans were organized by individual company. There were no blood ties and government intervention. In addition to the abstract idea of god, there wasnt any other common ideal, because everyone wanted to be his own hero. So it was ineffable for immigrants who exploited the new mainland to give up or sacrifice personal interests for the collective interests. Thereupon the individualism appeared. The sociologist Robert of California University thinks individualism is the real core of American culture. For example, Chinese traditional story Hua Mulan depicted a confident, brave and hardworking young girl image and carried forward the Chinese traditional filial piety culture deeply. The way of filial piety requires people to show filial obedience unconditionally to parents and loyalty to the monarch. However, due to its double needs of business and the ideology, the big MAC, the Disney culture industry deconstructed the individualism and the feminism of the United States to realize a miserable womans self-realization of individualism. It forms a strong contrast between traditional Chinese culture of filial piety and American heroism, individualism and feminism. The entire deed of Hua Mulan is like a self-fulfilling process of a rebellious feminist. From this level, American cartoon movie themes reflect the most important element of American culture, whether it is the subject of the Chinese story or Arab story, it tries to allude to the theme of the ideology of the United States with a simple story and character (Wang & Li Yujin, 2008:94-96). Humor and freedom are important features of American culture, and they are determined by the lively, innocent and active American characters. Compared with Chinese peoples emphasizing on education, Americans pay more attention to sense of humor and commercial effect. From themes choosing to effect pursuit, it is full of the business philosophy. American films are not emphasizing the concept of education, because education is not the purpose of western animated films making. The fundamental purpose is to make the audience happy, only by making the audience happy, the ultimate business purpose can be reached. But it does not pay attention to education, it just inputs some mainstream values to their children on the basis of entertainment. Tom and Jerry expresses the sense of humor of American culture incisively and vividly. In peoples heart, rat is lousy animal, but the rat Jerry almost becomes the object of peoples compassion in the film. There is no unpleasant feeling, only endless sense of humor. The cute little mouse has been adapted into various shapes under the brutality of old cat in the film. Audiences are deeply impressed by such exaggerated American-style humor. American-style humor also shows incisively and vividly in the film of Cars, such as, Guido and Luigi helped McQueen to change four tires on the track in just a moment. They surprised the chicken team who laughed at them previously, so that their fender was down. The film has a lot of humorous performance in detail, and it is very unique and interesting (Wu, 2004:40-43).2.1.2 Cartoon Movies CharacterSpeaking of the role, everyone will think of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. As the commercial animation, the theme and plot development of the story are designed, and the role is undoubtedly the most important. Animation is an art form to create life, and roles are the visual core in the cartoon movie. Many classic cartoon stories may be forgotten by the audiences after many years, but they can still remember the roles of the movies, and people still take delight in talking about the enduring roles. So from the point of view, the success of animations, to a great extent, is also the success of the characters. A good character can always leave a good impression to the audience. The subjects of nation were used countless times, and traditional and beautiful myths are the Chinas most beautiful treasure, but there are no vivid characters, which are born out of the animated films. People will only remember myths rather than the cartoon movies. For example, Havoc in Heaven is a very good work combined with traditional Chinese culture, and it can be said to be the peak of the domestic animation work. This film describes the Monkey King, and it is popular with the audience at home and abroad. Not only the Havoc in Heave has the aesthetic feeling of the general American Disney works, but also the plastic arts fully express the traditional Chinese artistic style that Disney animated film can not do. The art standard of the film has not only get the affirmation of international audience, but it also goes deep into the people s heart with characteristics of Chinese cartoon movies. But the film adapted from Wu Chenens Journey to the West, the animation image of the Monkey King also comes from the novel, so the animated cartoon character is not created by the film; it is just an extension of Chinese classical myth. For the characters, it has not made any innovation.On the contrary, American pays more attention to the future with strong spirit of innovation. It is very different from Chinese culture. American can always create classic cartoon movie images. The creation power of Americas cartoon movies come from its constant innovation and subversion. So Disney and DreamWorks have successfully created many famous characters in cartoon movies.Compared with Chinese cartoon movies, the American cartoon movies industrys own innovation is American cartoon films representative. The example is too numerous to mention individually. Some new stars, like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Tom and Jerry, appear continuously from Disney. Because of this endless creativity, all aspects of characters are developed to perfection. Every character is full of American humor and fun.2.1.3 Cartoon Movies Action Arrangement There is no cartoon film in the world like Chinas, which is closely connected with the painting, and focuses on painting. Chinese think that cartoon movie is a kind of moving painting, as long as the painting is moving, it is the cartoon movie. So, from theory to practice, traditional sense of Chinese cartoon movies painting is logical. Moreover, focusing on painting refers to the traditional Chinese painting. It is nothing to do with western painting. Taking wash painting for example, Chinas cartoon movies creators have overcome the technical difficulties, and applied historical, profound and traditional basic principles of Chinese painting to cartoon films successfully, and they created Little Tadpole Looking for Mom and Reed and so on after many experiments. But the most Chinese cartoon films focus on painting, so pictures are lacking of moving. It just likes a simple picture show. It is indeed rare visual impact on the people who usually watch American blockbuster. At the beginning, the pursuit of American cartoon movie is focusing on moving. Cartoon movie is a kind of movement through special treatment. It is defined by International Animation Group (IAFA) as: animation art is using a variety of technologies to create moving images, excepting the way of using real people or things. So cartoon film is not an art of moving painting, but an art of painted sports. Under the concept of focusing on moving, the American cartoon films are becoming real films. The using of the characters actions and lens is very exquisite and dynamic. With the help of todays computer technology, people make a great progress in cartoon movies area. As in The prince of Egypt, it becomes the unique beauty of movement. In addition
