人教版高二英语上册第四单元阅读课教学设计English Poetry 成彩云Teaching goals:1. To learn something about English poets and poems. 2. To develop students basic reading skills. 3. To master the meanings of some new words and phrases.Teaching important point:To explain the text by using some easy questions and the exercises in post reading.Teaching difficult point: How to explain an English poem.Teaching methods: Listening, reading and discussion.Teaching aids: a recorder, some tapes,a copy of an English poem“Right Here Waiting” for each student.Teaching procedures and ways:Step 1. Lead inT: We ll learn a new passage today. Before reading it, lets first enjoy two famous Chinese poems,one is from old times and the other is from modern times eg李白的望庐山瀑布和徐志摩的再别康桥 (Play the tape for the students to enjoy).T: Do you like the two poems?Ss: Yes.T: Can you name some famous Chinese poets and recite some of their poems?Ss: T: Okay! Very good! I think as a Chinese, every one of us must know some Chinese poets and poems, but have you ever read any English poems and do you know any English poets?Ss: Yes/NoT: Okay! Next, lets enjoy a famous English poem named “Right Here Waiting”(Play the tape and let the students enjoy it).Then ask them some questions:T: Do you like this poem?Ss: Yes.T: Is there anyone who can tell me the main idea of the poem?S1: Yes. Let me try. It a blue love story about a lover who is standing by the sea, listening to the sea waves and longing for her long departed beloved day by day.T: Good job. Just now, most of you said you were not familiar with English poets and poems. Do you want to learn something about them?Ss:Yes.T: Okay! Now open your books and turn to page 27. Today we ll learn a new text titled “ English Poetry”, which tells us something about English poets and poems. I think you must be interested in it. Lets read it now.Step 2. Reading.1. Fast readingT: First please read the passage while listening with your books open to get a general idea. Then I will ask you some easy questions to check whether you have a basic understanding of the text.(Play the tape for the students to listen while reading).T: Okay. Now let me ask you some questions to check whether you have a basic understanding of the text.Question one: What makes poetry difficult to write, but very interesting to read? Any volunteer? S2: Poetry is a special kind of literature and it plays with sounds, words and grammar, which makes poetry difficult to write but very interesting to read. T: Well-done! My next question: What special patterns does poetry often follow?S3 The number of lines and the number of characters in each line are limited. Poetry often follows special patterns of rhythm and rhyme.T: Very good! Lets come to the third question:Why did John Miltons poems become famous so quickly?S4: Let me try. I think his works became famous for the absence of rhyme at the end of each line.T: Excellent! Let me continue to ask you some other questions.Who are the famous English Romantic poets?S5: They are John Keats, William Wordsworth, George Gordon Byron.T: I think you have done a careful job. Okay, the next question is Why do modern poets have speical attractions to us?S6 Modern poets have their special attraction because they stand closest to us both in the language and images they use.T: You have done a good job. Now my last question is When is the great moment for European literature to come to China?S The great moment for European literature to come to China in between 1910 and the late 1930s.T: Very good! I think all of you have done well in this period. Next, lets read the passage carefully to get more detailed information.2. Careful reading Ask students to read the text again carefully and then try their best to finish Ex.1 to Ex.4 in Post reading on P28 and P29 ( Some time later, check the answers with the whole class).Step 3 DiscussionT: I think most of you did well in the Reading part and finished the questions and exercises excellently. Next, you are required to work in groups to discuss two questions:1. To say that “poems and literature can be bridges” is an image. What other images could you use to express the same idea?2. Explain the short poem by Mu Dan in your own words. ( Some minutes later, ask two Ss to report their answers). Two possible answers for these two questions:(Question 1: The sentence means that poems and literature can bring people closer to each other. “Poetry opens doors.” “ We can embrace each other in poetry.”)(Question 2: The world will be in the dark without words and people cant communicate each other, while by using words, people can be enlighted, understand each other and create a harmonious world.)Step 4 Enjoy an English songT: Today we read a passage mainly about English poetry and we got to know its function, features, and history as well as some famous English poets including William Shakespeare, John Donne, Gordon Byron, John keats etc. And now, at the end of this class, lets enjoy a beautiful English song which is just adapted from the poem that you appreciated right at beginning of the class.
