Explanation of the Teaching Plan For Unit 7 Living with diseases (SEFC Book 2A ) WanZai Middle School HuangBinPart one : Analysis and Understanding of the teaching material 【Status and Function】This period deals with the first part of unit 7 Living with disease, including two parts( warming up , dealing with the kinds of diseases we have known and speaking , to talk about the serious problems and the most serious one among them). Part one warming up enables the students to know a serious problem AIDS which needs our attention and it enables them to know how to treat people living with HIV /AIDS, to be aware of the responsibility to build a harmonious society. Part two Speaking enables the students to talk about some serious problems in English and support or challenge an opinion and enables the students to look at the same problems in different ways. 【Teaching aims:】Knowledge aims: Get the SS to learn some key words phrases and sentences in this unit Ability aims: Enable the students to decide which of the four problems is the most serious and tell the other members why the problem is the most serious. Enable the students to talk about some serious problems in English and support or challenge an opinion with useful expressions in this unit. Moral aims: 1)Students should know how to help the people living with AIDS to keep optimistic about life and future and learn how to communicate normally with the people as well as care for them. 2)Ss should be aware that every citizen has the responsibility to solve the serious social problems, and each citizen can make some contributions to solving them. 【Teaching important points】Key words: deadly, false, virus, via, blood, persuade.Key phrases: live with disease, be infected with HIV, inject drugs, via the following routes, be transmitted by Enable the students learn to use the structure of supporting and challenging an opinion【Teaching difficult points】Key sentences: 1) I think that because 2) if I were you, I would 3) perhaps, but what if ? 4) Could you please explain ? 5) Have you thought about? Enable students to know how to challenge an opinionPart two: Teaching strategies and learning strategies.【Teaching methods and techniques】 For the class mainly deals with the knowledge of diseases especially AIDS and improve the communicative ability of the students in this unit, teachers should focus the attention on the strengthening of the students ability to talk about the problems in oral English as well as to state their reasons for their choices. Thus, individual work (a competition), group work (cooperative methods) or personal statement are the methods and main techniques. A competition can arouse the students interest in the topic of this period. A discussion can cultivate the ability to express different opinions about the same topic. 【Learning methods and techniques】1. Students should learn to make some notes if necessary in case they will forget the important points.2. Students should learn to express their own opinions logically and clearly by using the useful expressions in learning. 3. Students should learn to cooperate with each other to cultivate the spirit of teamwork.4. Students learn to play more important role,. And teacher acts as helper , organizer and director., 【Teaching aids】 Multi-media, a PowerPoint document. Part three: Teaching Steps & ProceduresStep1. Lead-in Three videos are shown on the screen, students watch them and know the diseases mentioned in each video. They can leave a great impression on the students at first and attract the students attention. Step 2 warming up: Brain-storm or a quiz show for the unit In this part, the Ss will have a brain storm to list as many diseases as they can and a quick quiz show for the unit. It is designed to let the students know more about the deadly disease AIDS and learn to get on well with people living with HIV or AIDS . Different levels are set to make the students have a self- evaluation, you know students should have the ability to evaluate their performances in class. Students should try to take some notes of the knowledge mentioned in the class, they can refer to the paper for students. New words and phrases are explained during the brain storm and quiz show, obeying the principle that we should teach or learn the language knowledge in the concrete situation, in order that students could learn more freely and practically.Part 1 . Watch the videos, answer the question “ what diseases are mentioned in the videos?” ( students can write down the names of the diseases to cultivate their writing ability and develop a good habit of taking down important information. Video A _Video B_ Video C_ 2. What do these videos have in common? (a question to start the students thinking , to develop the ability of independent thinking) A. _ B. _ C 。 3. What other diseases can you think of ? Tick the deadly diseases (to identify the common diseases and the deadly diseases, developing sense of reasonable judgement. A._ B. _C._D._E._Part 2 : Quiz show on AIDS: 1. A competition between groups and for all students to know about the disease AIDS(A competition can make more students interested in the activity, and through it, students can develop a good sense of competition and strengthen their spirit of teamwork.)Group A. question 1 _question 2_question 3_ Group B. question 1 _question 2_question 3_ Group C. question 1 _question 2_question 3_2. Questions for all : 1._2._3._4._5._6._.on the transmission routes of AIDS.( Teacher should have the majority of the students ,not only part of them take part in the class activities. )Step 3 speaking In this part, we mainly want more students to take part in the teaching and learning activities where students should play a main and more important role. Also this part can indicate the communicative function of learning English. Students should develop their ability to communicate with others in fluent oral English. 1. Present a question to the students for them to think about;Question: What is a social problem? What are the characteristics of a social problem? 2. According to the characteristics of the social problems, ask the students to make a list of social problems theyknow or know well. Question: How many social problems can you think of ? List as many as you can. The teacher can give an example to show the students what problems we know. It can be started by a conversation with a student, to show that addiction to computer games becomes a social problem. Possible conversation with a student to show the exampleT: Hey, how are you? S: Fine, thank you. T: but why are you so sleepy? S: I dont know. I am really sleepy. T: Did you play computer games last night? T: Maybe I made a wrong guess, but playing computer games too often really do harm to you, your health, your study and even your future. Nowadays, students playing computer games too often is exactly a social problem. So you know what a social problem really is. (teacher can select one of the students to make a conversation)3. Present some pictures to check the students answers as well as to get knowledge of social problem.( mainly to make the students identify the social problems directly , simultaneously, students can accumulate some materials for the next step (group work)Problem A. _ Reason 1._2._3._.4. Group workThe Ss are divided into several different groups of four and are asked to talk about the serious problems mentioned in last step, and students can refer to the reasons given in last step if necessary. Question: Which of these problems is the most serious one in your opinion? Give your reasons,list at least three reasons.
