Leading-inDiscussion:(1) Ask Ss a question and let them discuss freely. How many great women can you think of? Who are they?(2) Show Ss some pictures of great women and offer Ss questions to discuss.Do you know these people? Who are they? Why are they still famous? (3) Ask Ss to turn to P1, look at the pictures and read the brief description under each picture.(4) Ask Ss to discuss the following questions in groups of four. Are they great or important? Why? What makes the fifth person great woman?Step3. Talking1. Make a dialogue with a student to help Ss know how to describe a person. 2. Ask Ss to describe one of the six great women in pairs. One student asks; the other student answers. Use the following expressions to help Ss. Step 4. Homework 1. Revise new words and expressions in this unit and finish Ex1, Ex2 and Ex3 in Using Words And Expressions on P42.2. Leading-inShow some very short parts of some silent films, and ask Ss to give their opinions by using the useful expressions learnt in the last period.Step 2. Fast readingAsk Ss if they have known something about humour, esp. English humour, and then ask Ss to read the text quickly and try to get a general idea of the whole passage.Suggested Answer: The whole text introduces a world-famous actor-Charlie Chaplie and his excellent performances, making us understand more about nonverbal humour. Step 3. Intensive reading1. Ask Ss to read the text carefully and get the clue of the text and try to finish the following form.3. Ask Ss to finish Ex1 of Comprehending on P19.4. Ask Ss to retell the passage in third person with the help of Ex1 of Comprehending on P19. Remind them to use some words and phrases learnt in the reading text.Step 4. Homework1. Ask Ss to see if they have found the connection between the noun and adjective forms of the words and explain it to Ss.3. Ask Ss to finish Ex1 on P56 and pay attention to their forms.Step 3. Leading-inLead Ss to the topic of this unit. Teacher may say, “All of the pictures show many difference. Can you tell the others what each picture shows? Are these actions kind of language? Can we communicate with a person who cant speak or a person whose language is different from yours?” Ask Ss to give their explanation for all the above pictures in order to arouse their interest in the topic body language.Step 2. Warming Up1. Ask some Ss the following questions.If you are painful, what expression will you have on your face?If you are very angry , how will you show the feeling?If you want to show “Be quiet!”, what will you do without speaking?2. Ask Ss to present the actions to their desk mates. Step 3. Pre-listening1. Divide Ss into groups of six and ask them to discuss the pictures with their partners.Who is the woman in the picture? (Jane Goodall.)What is the animal?.(Chimp.)What are they doing? (Talking with each other/ kissing with each other/greeting each other)Are they friendly to each other? (Yes.)Step 4. Listening (Workbook)Ask Ss to look through the questions of Ex2 on P62 and listen to the tape carefully. Play the tape twice. For the first time, just ask Ss to listen for the gist. For the second time, ask Ss to finish Ex1 on P62. Ask Ss to listen to the tape again and answer the questions in Ex3 on P62. If Ss have some difficulty in finding out the answers, stop the tape where necessary.Period 2. Pre-reading, Reading & ComprehendingTeaching Goals:To learn about the importance of body language.To develop Ss reading skills.To arouse Ss interest in body language.Teaching Procedures:Step 1. Pre-reading 1. Show some pictures and encourage Ss to guess the meanings. Then ask them to answer the following questions.(1) If you are happy, which picture will show the same meaning?(2) If you want to show you are very cool, which picture will show the same meaning?2. Get Ss to talk freely with their desk mates about body language. And ask them to give the answers to the three questions of Pre-reading on P25.Step 2.
