A: OK, lets get down to it. Ive been taking a look at the performance report during the recent years of our company. The report shows that our company has been making a loss because of the last product your department had invented. The only way to survive the company is to create a new product. However, the problem we are faced with is that we dont have enough capital. So, we must cut costs in the short term by 30%. Because the last product, your department had made a serious mistake. Ive intend to cut the workforce of your department.B: From where I sit. Its not too clear where the benefits of cutting the workforce of our department. The companys success over twenty years has mostly depend on the ideas and products my team has created. Although these faults make the company a great loss, we feel sorry about that, we have done our best to it. Please think twice about this decision. It is a bit of brutal for us.A: What exactly do you mean? Do you mean that I shouldnt cut the workforce of your department? So, can you tell me how to compensate the 30% funds?B: To tell you the truth. I will never be able to get such a team together again. Though I have been head of the R&D arm of Delta since it started with just ten people, I hand-picked every team member. Everyone is key to R&Ds work. Hence, I believe that without R&D, Delta would have no future. So we can cut the cost through other ways, such as declining the advertising, market-research, staff entertainment and so on. What do you think about it?A: Since this is a new product and currently customers feel disappointed to our companys product because of the last product. So we must value highly on the promotion of the new product and make customers build up the faith to our products. Therefore, we cant cut cost on advertising, market-research and other promotions. Taking all things into consideration, cutting the workforce of your department is the best choice for the companys benefits.B: But I think it still crucial that cuts the workforce of our department. I dont agree with you. On the other hand, could you please give our team one more chance? This time, we are all going to try our best to create the new ideas on the new product, and we will be all-around to think over the customers need, make them be satisfied with our products and be believable in them. We wont disappoint you again. Please, I beg your approval.A: Let me remind you of one thing, I had believed in your department in the past until you made such a serious mistake. I must consider the benefits of the company instead of your departments interest. If the company experience more major difficulties in the future because of my trust to your department, I will feel sorry to the whole company staff and I wont undertake this big responsibility. So, we must cut the workforce of your department.B: Lets look back. Thanks to our departments performance, the company gained great success. And anyone can make a mistake once, but we wont make the same mistake twice. Why are you so ruthless to us? Why dont you give us one more time to compensate for it? I think we all need a break.A: Take it easy! Its not a good way to go on arguing. Since you are so confident in your department, OK, I will give you one more chance.
