Even in senior three, he kept on weekend excercises which did take up a lot of his time, sometimes as long as a whole afternoon. Yet he was able to keep an excellent school record. As he said, “I love study, but I also dont want to give up my hobby; so I have to learn to make full use of my time. And now I know I can manage it. ” So he did it. He made his way to one of the best universities across China. 语言平易而不乏亮点: even, did (take up), yet, but, so 等小词的运用贴切生动; was crazy about, keep on, take up, as long as, was able to, make full use of, give up, make his way to 等短语的运用,比使用单个的动词显得更为灵动;句式上长短结合,简单句、并列句、复合句结合; 此外,人称的变换、标点的使用也都值得借鉴。 Never give up(1)When I first picked up English as a junior student, I had trouble in listening comprehension, and I couldnt understand what the teacher said in class. Therefore, I failed in most examinations and was left behind by others. To improve my poor listening, I encouraged myself to read English aloud, listen to tapes and watch English programs as much as I could. Eventually, I have accomplished a better performance in listening than ever before.(2) For my part, I firmly believe that one will never succeed all his life without a firm will to get the final victory. For example, dr. Sun Yat-sen, the father of Modern China, helped change china into a new country and set the Chinese people free through a long period of hard struggle. Many of his attempts failed and many of his followers were killed, but he had an iron will and stuck to what he believed in. Finally, he made the revolution of 1911 a success. The same is true of mean in all aspects of life. A student who has no determination will never succeed in his studies.3Li Qinmei, a 16-year-old country girl in Shandong Province has experienced one disaster after another in her short life. Li lost her mother at three. Four years later, her father became disabled after a tractor accident. At 12, her misfortune returned with the death of her grandma. Since then she has been forced to shoulder all the responsibility for her broken family. Li learnt to cook and managed to live a life with an allowance of only 24 yuan per month.During most of her junior school years, Li went to classes only once a month as her father was seriously ill at the time.I taught myself at home and asked teachers for help on my school days, she explained.Lis hard work paid off this fall. She was admitted by Zhucheng No 1 High School, a local key school, based on her good performance in the entrance exams.Once in a while, Li felt sad when she saw her classmates going shopping or hanging out with friends. I envy them sometimes because they have both mum and dad to look after them. However, I soon feel relieved as I still have my dear dad with me, she said.Li admitted that the difficulties in life had taught her to be strong.I believe I will go on and continue my studies at a good university, she said, in a confident tone. (I envy them sometimes because they have both mum and dad to look after them. However, I soon feel relieved as I still have my dear dad with me,)*提点:要根据需要取舍相关的内容,不要全部故事都写下来。 4. My previous experience proves that doing part-time jobs is more than making money. We can meet numbers of young people from other schools and places as well as learn about the world outside the textbooks and our home.Last winter vacation I sold toys with several classmates in the Flower Market. Though the market only opened for three days before the Spring Festival, I made friends with several green-hand shopkeepers who were just like me. We had a great time discussing how to attract customers and bargain for the best price. 5. Hong was born in a poor family. When he was only 11, his father became mentally ill and one day came back with an abandoned baby girl. A year later, Hongs mother and younger brother both left home because of poverty and pressure from his ill father. Their burdens fell onto the 12-year-olds shoulders: to treat his fathers illness, bring up the adopted sister Chenchen, and to go on to study. Hong didnt give up. Since a young age, he has worked in part time jobs to feed his family. At the same time, he has studied at college. After Hongs story went public, people were moved to tears by his unselfishness. Hard as his life was, Hong didnt abandon his father and the adopted sister, because they needed his help. With his hard - won money, he even aided other students struggling against misfortunes. Hongs story shows that with love and willpower, no hardship can defeat a person but himself. So when facing difficulties, dont complain about bad luck. Consider what more you could do for your family and society and youll find the world smiling back. Its known to all that a spirit of independence can have a good effect on adolescents. It can push us to learn more and lead us not to give way to difficulties. 6. It has been seen how much dreams have meant to my fathers life. Country born and country bred, he dreamed of becoming an architect as a kid. For many years, he spared no effort to approach his dream by working extremely hard at his lessons and reading books related to architecture. As was expected, he was finally admitted to his ideal university and majored in architecture. Now he is an authority in architecture and is well-known at home and abroad. 7. A friend told me a real experience. One day, after school, he picked 100yuan on the floor in front of the classroom. At that time, there was nobody else. At the beginning, he was excited because he could buy his favorite comic books. In the meanwhile, however, he felt guilty about this extra 100yuan. After one night, he finally decided to hand in the money to Lost &Found. Later he was told it belonged to a student from a poor family and the student was so happy to find it back.If everybody is honest, the world will be warm and wonderful. 8. Actually, Im moved by this student. Young as he was, he returned the extra money without putting it into his own pocket. When I was a little girl, I broke my mums favorite glass one day. I was scared to death and my head went completely empty. I didnt know what to do to repair it. Finally, I apologized to her with tears. To my amazement, she hugged me in her arms, saying that she didnt care about the glass because it was her dearest daughters honesty that counted.Honesty will lead us to a happier life. So, be honest to yourself and be honest to others. 9. My friend bought a new MP4 that was an attraction in our class. The moment I saw it I fell in love with it. So I said I was dying to have one of my own. To my surprise, his new MP4 was missing the next day. Unfortunately I was thought of as the one who had stolen it because of what I had said the day before. I was angry, but I looked for it everywhere to prove I was guiltless. To my disappointment, I failed. From the expression on his face I knew he was doubt of me. It was hard for me to tell him my feeling in words, so I wrote a letter to express what I was feeling. With the time going by, he began to realize he did wrong to me and made an apology to me. Misunderstanding may occur to us from time to time. No matter what happens, we should communicate with each other. Remember time will tell us everything. 10. Im a Senior 3 student in Guangzhou. Im writing to share my seatmateXiaohuas story with you. He is a new comer from a poor countryside of Sichuan Province. Although he tries his best to learn Cantonese, Xiaohua still has heavy accent. Because of this, some of our classmates laugh at him once he opens his mouth. Although feeling embarrassed, Xiaohua never gets angry with them. However, I can feel his loneliness and want to help him to change this situation. Besides this problem, Xiaohua is made fun with by other classmates because he has been wearing the same clothes for the past two monthsan old school uniform, which looks tight and small. His appearance is simple, but he is highly intelligent. Since he came to our class, Xiaohua has become one of the top students in my class. He is a combination of simplicity and complicity. I admire him very much. So often in life we judge other people by how handsome or pretty they are, or by how fashionable or expensive their clothes are. But simply possessing good looks or good clothes does not necessarily make someone a good person. When judging a person we need to look below the surface. We need to decide what kind of person they are inside, not what they look like on the outside. So Liu Jun, the phenomenon that you describe in your letter is not as uncommon as you might think, and thus it is always worth remembering the famous English saying, “Never judge a book by its cover.” As to your seatmate Xiaohua, I think he is a boy with respectful characters. Being laughed at, he forgives his classmates, so he is a man of broad views; being poor, he still studied as hard as he could, so he is a man of high intelligence. 11When I was in Senior Middle School, I lived in the school. Every time I was ill, my teachers and classmates gave me kind help, taking good care of me all the time. In todays society, I was affected by some bad things, which made me think that there was no kindness
