The Status of Zeus The Status of Zeus , though small in relation to some of the other wonders of the ancient world , this statue of Zeus , sculpted by the Greek Phidias about 430 BC , won fame because of its beauty . It was located in Olympia , Greece . It was damaged in a big fire in 462 AD .5.The Temple of Artemis The Temple of Artemis was a Greek temple built in Ephesus and dedicated to ( 以庄严地形式奉献给) the Greek goddess Artemis (Diana) , the maiden goddess of hunting . It is said that the temple reached its standing as a wonder , because it was the most beautiful structure ever built . I had always wanted to see Pompeii . When I was a teenager , my parents were strict about my study time and it didnt matter what I chose to read . When I read and studied Pompeii , I knew in my heart that Id be there one day to see it first hand .When we arrived at the front entrance leading to the city , my heart was beating so fast . I was finally there . Pompeii was amazing . Silently , Pompeii sat in the shadow of Vesuvius and I could almost hear the streets crowded with the people shouting and chatting . I could smell the fresh bread and see groups of men in ancient clothes gathering on the small path leading to the square . I felt as if Id stepped back in time .Looking down on the once ash-covered streets of Pompeii I was amazed to see carvings (雕刻品) for direction which led the people through the town . Chariots (双轮战车) that had once been led by fine horses had left their marks forever in the cobblestone streets . I saw homes of farmers and homes of the rich . Great bath houses stood in the shadow of time . Truly a wonderful experience . Although it had been many years since that sad time in history when Vesuvius blew its top and threw fire and volcanic ash down onto the city , tears still stung (刺痛) my eyes when I saw the casts(模型) that were made from the cavities(中空处) of people left still in time . Fear was forever frozen on their faces as if it were yesterday .
