Many either walk or ride bicycles if the distance is not too great. In other cases, students must take public buses and trains. After junior high school, students attend schools based on their high school entrance examination scores. So some students travel a great distance to attend the school. The school day begins at 8:30.At schoolThen students assemble in their homeroom classes for the days studies. Each homeroom has an average of 4045 students. Students stay in their homeroom classrooms for most of the school day. Only for physical education, laboratory classes, or other subjects requiring special facilities (设备) do students move to different parts of the school. Between classes and at lunchtime, classrooms can be noisy, lively places. Some schools may have a cafeteria (自助餐厅), but most do not. In most schools, students bring a box lunch from home, prepared by the mother in the early morning hours.Japanese students spend about 240 days a year at school, 60 days more than American students. Students in high schools take three years each of the following subjects: mathematics, social studies, Japanese, science, and English. Other subjects include physical education, music, art, and moral studies. All the students in one grade level study the same subjects. Given the number of required subjects, electives (选修科目) are few.Afterschool activitiesClub activities take place after school every day. Students can join only one club, and they rarely change clubs from year to year, so the clubs are relatively stable. Clubs are made up of sports clubs (baseball, soccer, judo, kendo, etc) and culture clubs (English, broadcasting, science, etc). New students usually are encouraged to select a club shortly after the school year begins in April. Clubs meet for two hours after school each day and many clubs continue to meet during school vacations.1Most Japanese high school students often have their lunch _.Ain restaurantsBin school cafeteriasCat home Din homeroom classrooms解析:选D推理判断题。根据第二段可知“大多数学校的学生午饭是早晨从家里带来的”,故排除A、C两项;由“. at lunchtime, classrooms can be noisy, lively places.” 2Students in the USA go to school about _ days a year.A180 B200C240 D300解析:选A细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Japanese students spend about 240 days a year at school, 60 days more than American students.” 3The underlined word “rarely” in the fourth paragraph means “_”Aalways BneverCseldom Doften解析:选C词义猜测题。根据后半句“. so the clubs are relatively stable”可知,rarely意为“很少”,与C项(不常;很少)意思一致。4From the passage we know that _.Athere are less than 40 students in each class in Japanese high schoolsBstudents must stay in homeroom classrooms for physical educationCthere are few subjects for students to choose except the required onesDthere will not be any club activities during school vacations解析:选C细节理解题。 Wrong Reasons for Going to CollegeA college education can be priceless._1_ If any of these following factors had a big influence on your decision, youre probably right to secondguess yourself.Because all your friends are going. In only a few weeks time, the whole friend group will be scattered to a half dozen different colleges in a half dozen different places._2_ Friends will wonder whats wrong with you.Because someone else expects it from you._3_ Or maybe, youre the kid that everyone is proud to believe will be the first to get there. Welcome to the first day of the great new school year. We will begin with the pledge (誓言) of loyalty.”I pulled my shirt over my head and my right hand immediately rested over my heart. A few tears came to my eyes as every time I pledged. I thought of my grandpa. He had died almost a year before, but I still missed him every day. Grandpa served in World War and the flag had a very special meaning for him.The next morning in the locker room, I noticed something strange. Some girls talked through the pledge. In the morning after that, even fewer did the pledge, including the teachers. By the second week of school, I was the only girl in the whole locker room that did the pledge. The next morning, I hid in the bathroom to change clothes and pledge. There I couldnt see the flag and felt guilty to be hiding like that. I kept hiding for the next week and felt worse.I spent a weekend gathering up my nerve. On Monday, I changed into my gym clothes right away and was standing by my locker when the headmaster began morning announcements. The pledge started and I put my hand over my heart.A girl nearby locked her locker and asked, “Why are you doing that?” She looked confused.“My grandpa fought in World War and he died last year,” I said. “Im doing it for him.”She felt embarrassed and looked away. “Oh,” she said.Over the next few weeks, more girls questioned me about the pledge. I gave them all that same answer.I never inspired other girls to do the pledge along with me. They made a choice; I made mine. I was doing it for Grandpa, but more than that, I was doing it for myself. Grandpa raised me to be proud of my country and that pride didnt stop. 1How did other students behave during later pledge periods?AThey gradually quit the pledge.BThey continued to show curiosity.CThey did the pledge with sincerity.DThey made fun of those who did the pledge. 故选A项。2How did I feel about hiding in the bathroom for the pledge?AHappy.BExcited.CGuilty.
