Facing the music means to accept and deal with the punishment of an action.Americans often use the word face in this way.For example, I cant face another night of camping! Its cold and rainy. Or In life, you must face your fears. Face used in this way is very common. But now, lets go back to facing the music. Imagine a friend asks you to take care of her beautiful red sports car. She gives you the keys and says, Thanks so much for watching my car while Im away. But please, do not drive it. It is an extremely (极其) fast car and you are not on the insurance. But you do not listen. You want to show off to some friends and pretend the car is yours. So, you drive it around town one night. As bad luck would have it, you lose control of the car and drive it into a stop sign. The damage is serious. When your friend returns you must tell her what you have done and face the music. The music here is the result of your actions. It could be losing her friendship or paying for repairs to her sports car or both. Whatever the music is, you must face it.There are other American expressions that mean the same thing as face the music. To take your medicine means to accept the results from something bad you have done. And if someone says, You made your bed. Now lie in it. they mean you created a bad situation and now you will experience the results, or as we say in spoken American English, you must deal with it!14. Forbidding you to drive all your life17.What does the the paragraph tell us?A. Differences between such expressions B. Other idioms similar to face the music.C. Standard expressions for face the music. D.Other such expressions puzzling learners. CTraffic Light Reading is one of students favorites! And its so simple. Heres what to do: Take three pens in different colors, most suitably red, orange and green. But its not too important as long as teachers and students are both clear on the colour code theyre going to use.Students read a text, not worrying too much about how much they understand. Teachers can ask them to re-read when students are paying attention to vocabulary. Start by underlining the words that they understand completely (including names, numbers etc) in green. Then students re-read the text and underline the words that look familiar, they maybe know them but arent too sure about them. You guessed it: in orange. Finally, students read the text a third time underlining the words they clearly dont understand in red. Sometimes teachers might want to set students a limit for how many red words they underline, telling them only to underline the words that they believe are seriously blocking their understanding of the text as a whole. Generally, however, students are pleasantly surprised by how few words are red and how many are green. Seeing their ability laid out in a visual way really helps to increase confidence.Once the whole text is underlined, teachers can give students a limit of 5, 10 or 15 words, depending on the length of the text, and tell them theyre only allowed to look these words up in a dictionary. This helps them to recognize words that are actually getting in the way of their understanding of the text and words that they dont know but actually dont impact their whole understanding of the text. This is a useful activity that can be done with a printed text, in a Google Doc, on RealtimeBoard, or set as a homework task for some independent study.18.What do we know about Traffic Light Reading?A .Its easy. B .Its expensive. C .Its difficult D .Its useless.19.If a student uses orange to underline a word, it means that he _ .A .doesnt know it at all B .has actually understood itC .isnt certain about its meaning D .has never met with it at all20.What does the underlined word “impact” in Paragraph 5 mean?A. increase. B. solve. C. use D. affect 21.In the authors opinion, Traffic Light Reading _ .A .needs more eyes than mind B .trains students ability to learnC .makes the students study long hours D .encourages the students to speak bravely DFor students at the Farm School in Hamilton, Virginia, the classroom is outside every day. Jaclyn Jenkins is the founder of the school. “The No. 1 question we get immediately from parents is What happens if it rains? And we say, Bring an extra set of clothes!” Jenkins adds, “We still educate them. Their brains are working when theyre moving. So, our goal is to always be outside.” The Farm School is a preschool, a place for 3- and 4-year-olds to learn and play.Alison Huff has taught at other schools. She says the Farm School gives its students more of a hands-on learning experience. For example, children use pumpkins to learn about colors and counting. They learn about measurement by planting seeds 30 centimeters apart. Huff adds, “We can use everything a regular preschool uses, but out in the garden.” In addition to planting vegetables and fruits, children help prepare food and clean up afterwards. The school teaches the children to cook using the food they have grown. “They can see the benefits of what they have in the garden and taste it then instead of going to the grocery store and buying it,” says Huff. The preschoolers also learn words in languages other than English. Huff speaks in both English and Spanish. Her assistant speaks French and Arabic. A 3-year-old in her class speaks four different languages.Farm animals are also an important part of the education program. Jenkins says the children learn about a different animal every month. Two months ago, she says, that animal was a cow. “We do actually have a cow that we bring to the school. They get to see what the cow is like, an learn what cows eat. They use little gloves and pretend to actually milk a cow. They make butter and yogurt.” The children spent another month with a large bird a turkey. The idea for a school like this started after Jenkins and her husband bought a farm in Hamilton, with a late 18th-century house. They called it “One Day Farm” because years earlier they had hoped that “one day” they would have a farm. “Thats when it started, the spark of a farm school,” said Jenkins.22.What is the biggest difference between the farm school and others?A .There are many plants and animals at this school.B .This school is mainly for students to learn fanning.C .Almost all the activities lake place outside at this school.D .This school is quite popular among parents and children.23.What dont the children do at this school?A .Raise turkeys and cows.
