Modern businesses have been following his lead, with more tactics. One tactic involves where to display the goods. For example, stores place fruits and vegetables in the first section. They know that customers who buy the healthy food first will feel happy so that they will buy more junk food (垃圾食品) later in their trip. In department stores, the womens shoe section is generally next to the womens cosmetics section: while the shop assistant is going back to find the right size shoe, bored customers are likely to wander over and find some cosmetics they might want to try later.Besides, businesses seek to appeal to customers senses. Stores notice that the smell of baked goods encourages shopping, so they make their own bread each morning and then fan the bread smell into the store throughout the day. Music sells goods, too. Researchers in Britain found that when French music was played, sales of French wines went up.When it comes to the selling of houses, businesses also use highly rewarding tactics. They find that customers make decisions in the first few seconds upon walking in the door, and turn it into a business opportunity. A California builder designed the structure of its houses smartly. When entering the house, the customer would see the Pacific Ocean through the windows, and then the pool through an open stairway leading to the lower level. The instant view of water on both levels helped sell these $ 10 million houses.24Why do stores usually display fruits and vegetables in the first section?ATo save customers time. BTo show they are high quality foods.CTo help sell junk food. DTo sell them at discount prices.25According to Paragraph 3, which of the following encourages customers to buy?AOpening the store early in the morning. BFilling the store with the smell of fresh bread.CInviting customers to play music. DDisplaying British wines next to French ones.26What is the California builders story intended to prove?AThe house structure is a key factor customers consider.BThe more costly the house is, the better it sells.CAn ocean view is much to the customers taste.DA good first impression increases sales.27What is the main purpose of the passage?ATo explain how businesses turn people into their customers.BTo introduce how businesses have grown from the past.CTo report researches on customer behavior.DTo show dishonest business practices.CWealth starts with a goal saving a dollar at a time. Call it the piggy bank strategy. There are lessons in that time-honored coin-saving container.Any huge task seems easier when reduced to baby steps. I f you wished to climb a 12,000-foot mountain, and could do it a day at a time, you would only have to climb 33 feet daily to reach the top in a year. If you want to take a really nice trip in 10 years for a special occasion, to collect the $15,000 cost, you have to save $3.93 a day. If you drop that into a piggy bank and then once a year put $1,434 in a savings account at 1% interest rate after-tax, you will have your trip money. When I was a child, my parents gave me a piggy bank to teach me that, if I wanted something, I should save money to buy it. We associate piggy banks with children, but in many countries, the little containers are also popular with adults. Europeans see a piggy bank as a sign of good fortune and wealth. Around the world, many believe a gift of a piggy bank on New Years Day brings good luck and financial success. Ah, but you have to put something in it.Why is a pig used as a symbol of saving? Why not an elephant bank, which is bigger and holds more coins? In the Middle Ages, before modern banking and credit instruments, people saved money at home, a few coins at a time dropped into a jar or dish. Potters made these inexpensive containers from an orange-colored clay called “pygg,” and folks saved coins in pygg jars. The Middle English word for pig was “pigge”. While the Saxons pronounced pygg, referring to the clay, as “pug”, eventually the two words changed into the same pronunciation, sounding the “i” as in pig or piggy. As the word became less associated with the orange clay and more with the animal, a clever potter fashioned a pygg jar in the shape of a pig, delighting children and adults. The piggy bank was born.Originally you had to break the bank to get to the money, bringing in a sense of seriousness into savings. While piggy banks teach children the wisdom of saving, adults often need to relearn childhood lessons. Think about the things in life that require large amounts of money- college education, weddings, cars, medical care, starting a business, buying a home, and fun stuff like great trips. So when you have money, take off the top 10%, put it aside, save and invest wisely.28What is the piggy bank strategy?APaying 1% income tax at a time. BSetting a goal before making a travel plan.CAiming high even when doing small things.DPutting aside a little money regularly for future use.29What does then underlined word “something”(Paragraph 3) most probably refer to?AMoney BGifts CFinancial success DGood luck30The piggy ban originally was _.Aa potters instrument Ba cheap clay containerCan animal-shaped dish Da pig-like toy for children31The last paragraph talks about _.Athe seriousness of educating children Bthe enjoyment of taking a great tripCthe importance of managing money Dthe difficulty of starting a businessDIf humans were truly at home under the light of the moon and stars,we would go in darkness happily, the midnight world as visible to us as it is to the vast number of nocturnal(夜间活动的) species on this planet. Instead,we are diurnal creatures, with eyes adapted to living in the suns light. This is a basic evolutionary fact, even though most of us dont think of ourselves as diurnal beings. Yet its the only way to explain what weve done to the night: Weve engineered it to receive us by filling it with light. The benefits of this kind of engineering come with consequences 一 called light pollution 一 whose effects scientists are only now beginning to study. Light pollution is largely the result of bad lighting design, which allows artificial light to shine outward and upward into the sky. III-designed lighting washes out the darkness of night and completely changes the light levels 一 and light rhythms to which many forms of life, including ourselves, have adapted. Wherever human light spills into the natural world, some aspect or life is affected . In most cities the sky looks as though it has been emptied of stars, leaving behind a vacant haze(霾) that mirrors our fear of the dark. Weve grown so used to this orange haze that the original glory of an unlit nigh, - dark enough for the planet Venus to throw shadow on Earth- is wholly beyond our experience, beyond memory almost.Weve lit up the night as if it were an unoccupied country, when nothing could be further form the truth. Among mammals alone, the number of nocturnal species is astonishing, Light is a powerful biological force, and on many species it acts as a magnet(磁铁). The effect is so powerful that scientists speak of songbirds and seabirds being “captured” by searchlights on land or by the light from gas flares on marine oil platforms. Migrating at night, birds tend to collide with brightly lit tall buildings.Frogs living near brightly lit highways suffer nocturnal light levels that are as much as a million times righter than normal, throwing nearly every aspect of their behavior out of joint including most other creatures, we do need darkness. Darkness is as essential to our biological welfare, to our internal clockwork, as light itself.Living in a glare of our making,we have cut ourselves off from our evolutionary and cultural heritagethe light of the stars and the rhythms of day and night. In a very real sense light pollution causes us to lose sight of our true place in the universe, to forget the scale of our being, which is best measured against the dimensions of a deep night with the Milky Waythe edge of our galaxy arching overhead.32According to the passage, human being .Aprefer to live in the darkness Bare used to living in the day light Cwere curious about the midnight world Dhad to stay at home with the light of the moon33The writer mentions birds and frogs to .Aprovide examples of animal protection Bshow how light pollution affects animalsCcompare the living habits of both species Dexplain why the number of certain species has declined34It is implied in the last paragraph that .Alight pollution dose harm to the eyesight of animals Blight pollution has destroyed some of the world heritagesChuman beings cannot go to the outer spaceDhuman beings should reflect on their position in the universe35What might be the best title for the passage?AThe Disappearing Night BThe Orange HazeCThe Magic light DThe Rhythms of Nature第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Public Speaking TrainingGet a coach36 ,so get help.
