Determination(a) In presence of sulfated surface-active agents.Accuratelyweigh test portion containing 510 mg phenolsulfonic acid into250 mL Erlenmeyer. Add 10 mL H2O and 2 mL HCl, connect toH2O-cooled condenser, and reflux 0.5 h. Cool to room temperature,transfer quantitatively to 100 mL separator with 20 mL H2O, andproceed as in (b), beginning “extract with three 30 mL portionsCHCl3.”(b) In absence of sulfated surface-active agents.Accuratelyweigh, in weighing bottle, test portion containing 510 mgphenolsulfonic acid.
