But I have had a passion for helping others. So I gave spare change to the homeless. I felt good.At a point something changed. I was so tired of constantly seeing social media posts about people in need. It seemed as if all everyone was doing was hitting the share button, but no one was actually doing anything to make a real difference. I decided to look within myself to bee more aware of what was important to me, and what made me happy. Its funny how the universe places opportunities in your path when you mit to a new way of thinking. One day I came across Meals On Wheels of Tampa (MOWTampa). Since 1975, MOWTampa has been strengthening the munity by caring for the aged and the disabled. This non-profit organization prepares its own food and relies on help from volunteers to deliver about 700 meals to our neighbors each day. Once I learned this, I knew I wanted to get involved. On the third Saturday of every month, volunteers deliver food to recipients(领受者). I delivered my first MOWTampa meals about a year ago. Everyone I came into contact with that day was so grateful for the delivery. Smiles greeted me as I approached each door. Since my first delivery, I have continuously signed up to deliver more meals! I am super excited to have the opportunity to be a practical volunteer. I challenge you to help our neighbors however you can. Open your heart to others who need a helping hand right here in Tampa.4. News and current affairs magazines are being more popularbut celebrity(名人), gossip and fashion publications are still struggling.“Gossip and celebrity news is rarely something that requires detailed analysisso its best suited to bite-sized content on social media,” says Ian Burrell, media columnist for The Drum. “Once its out there, its quickly shared and readers move on to the next star. No one wants to wait a week to read about it in a print magazine.”Fraser Nelson, editor of The Spectator, wrote this week: “Theres now too much writing online, and in an era of fake news, where you get your analysis from has never been more important. As newspapers and magazines are finding out, if you can publish writing that is consistently better than what can be found online, people will pay.”But many editors are struggling to strike the right balance between physical and digital content. They are faced with the choice of either posting all their articles online for free so the magazine stays relevant, or charging readers money to protect the financial future of the brand. As Burrell points out, most readers are hungry for a deeper understanding of the fast-moving changes in global news and politics rather than seeking to escape from it by burying their heads in celebrity gossip and entertainment stories.Serious times call for serious journalism. While general-interest daily news has been turned into an almost universally available modity(商品) by the Internet, specialist journalism is still a service people value and think they cant get elsewhere.8. For someone with OCD, just getting out of the house for work in the morning can bee an ordeal. On the way out the door, you pause to wipe the kitchen counter with a rag. You look at your watch and know you should leave, but youre pretty sure you should wipe the counter just once more to make sure you didnt miss any dirt. So you do seven more times, and its precisely what you do every morning. You know it doesnt make sense, and yet you cant help but do it. There may be hope for this condition: A new study suggests that brain inflammation(炎症) may be at the root of OCD.The researchers used a type of brain imaging known as PET to observe the brains of 40 physically healthy, non-smoking, drug- and medication-free volunteers, 20 with OCD, and 20 who didnt. Inflammation in areas of the brain linked to OCD were, on average, 32 percent higher in people with the condition than in non-OCD volunteers.“The inflammation worsened when OCD volunteers tried to resist their pulsions(强迫行为). Inflammation is the bodys response to infection or injury,” Dr. Meyer explains in a CAMH press release about the study. Although this response is intended to help the body heal, in some cases, it can be harmful.“Medications developed to target brain inflammation in other disorders could be useful in treating OCD,” says Dr. Meyer. “Work needs to be done to uncover the specific factors that contribute to brain inflammation, but finding a way to reduce inflammations harmful effects and increase its helpful effects could enable us to develop a new treatment much more quickly.”12. I didnt seek an ideal career or start my own business. I didnt stick to habits because I didnt really believe I had the discipline. I had a hard time making new friends. I didnt push past my fort zone. 16 While Im not free of self-doubt these days, I can honestly say I believe in myself like never before. 17 I will, probably often. And thats OK. Failure, not being perfect, mistakes, not having people agree with me, not being pletely accepted: these are not negative thin
