The revenue from core businesses reached RMB 168.4 billion in 2008. Sinosteel ranked 372nd in the Fortune Global 500 in 2009 for the first time. Sinosteel is mainly engaged in the development and processing of metallurgical mineral resources, trading and logistics of metallurgical raw materials and products, and related engineering technical services and equipment manufacturing. It is a large multinational enterprise with clearly-defined core businesses that integrate resources development, trade and logistics, engineering projects and science and technology, equipment manufacturing and specialized services, providing comprehensive auxiliary services for the steel industry, especially steel mills. Sinosteel Australia Pty Ltd (formerly known as CMIEC (Australia) Pty Ltd) was incorporated in Perth in January of 1988 with registered capital of 19.545 million Australian dollars. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sinosteel Corporation and developed trading between China and Australia with third countries. In 1988, Sinosteel Australia Pty Ltd undertook its first active involvement in the Australian resource sector with the signing of the Channar Mining Joint Venture agreement with Hamersley Iron (Sinosteel Australia accounting for 40% of shares). Channar Mining, with a total investment of Aust$ 420 million, was put into operation on January 1st, 1990. By the end of 2008, the company had shipped more than 160 million tons of iron ore to the Chinese market.
