摘要 对于大多数学生而言，英语词汇学习是他们英语学习的一个重点在英语词汇中， 多义是一个普遍存在的现象以专四考试大纲所要求的词汇为例，多义词的比例 就高达60 左右所以可以说能否有效地理解和记忆多义词在很大程度上决定 了词汇学习的成功与否。现在普遍采用的记忆词汇表和在语境中掌握词义的两种 方法对词汇( 多义词) 教学在一定程度上起到了积极的作用，但在词汇教学的高 效性和掌握词汇的长期性方面效果欠佳本文试图探讨以认知语言学理论为基础 的教学方法在加强英语多义词教学方面的可行性和具体的实践操作。本文首先讨 论的是多义词的任意性和理据性。以索绪尔为代表的结构主义学家认为语一r “符号 具有任意性。对多义词的研究仅限于语言系统内部。对多义词的义素分析方法说 明多义词的不同意义仅仅取决于不同语义成分的组合。各意义间的相互联系得以 承认，但对于各意义间是如何产生联系的问题却难以给出令人信服的解释。认知 语言学的出现和发展给多义词的研究提供了新的视角。一些语言学家提出多义词 最初的词形和意义的联系是任意的，而意义的扩展是具理据性的。认知语言学以 经验主义为其哲学基础，认为语言，作为人类感知世界的一种方式，是认知系统 的一部份。认知能力和语言能力相互影响并受到语言的影响。研究语言现象不可 避免地涉及认知领域。多义词词义的扩展是在原型意义的基础上，主要通过三种 认知手段，即，隐喻，转喻和意象图式来实现的。以此理论为基础，本文对多义 词和其各义项之间的关系做了尝试性的解释。此外，通过对英语专业二年级3 7 名学生的测试，本文指出学生的认知意识及对这三种认知手段的了解和与他们的 多义词水平有着一定的联系。从而对英语多义词教学提出一些建议，希望能给多
