摘要 矛盾修饰法是英语中比较特殊的一种修辞手法，它把意义看似相互矛盾的词 语并置从而酝酿出一种不同寻常、发人深省的修辞效果。矛盾修饰法是一种很富 哲理性的修辞手法，其中包含了人们对事物对立统一规律的认识。矛盾修辞反映 出复杂的心理矛盾、社会矛盾、以及事物自身的矛盾。这使得矛盾修饰法的表达 既出乎意料又在情理之中。但与学术界对隐喻、借代、反语的研究相比，对矛盾 修饰法的关注尚少，鲜见深邃的成体系的研究。学界对矛盾修饰法的概念性问题 也存在不同意见。这正是本研究的关注所在，而揭示矛盾修饰法矛盾部分内部隐 含的深层关系和矛盾修饰法的生成过程则是本研究的主要层面。 本文运用以“自主一依存理论为指导，在对语料进行负责任的收集、筛选、 归类、分析和总结的基础上，得出以下假设： 1 矛盾修饰法不只是一种修辞手法，也是一种认知方式。这种认知方式是人 们在认识世界的长期实践中形成的。 2 矛盾修饰法表达式的深层逻辑关系不是矛盾的，而是对立的统一体，是人 们的思维方式之一。所谓“矛盾主要体现在语义层面。 3 根据矛盾部分的关系，从语义层面上可以将矛盾修饰法分为表层矛盾修饰 法和深层矛盾修饰法。表层矛盾修饰法指矛盾表达式中互为矛盾的部分具有明显 的反义关系；深层矛盾修饰法指矛盾表达式中互为矛盾的部分不具有明显的反义 关系，并且修饰语的反义词是被修饰语的内涵。但是，不能说凡是以修饰语反义 词为内涵的被修饰语都能与修饰语构成矛盾修饰法，这个生成过程要受到限制。 4 一个修饰语可与一个或多个被修饰语组成矛盾修饰法。当一个修饰语与多 个被修饰语组成矛盾修饰法时，被修饰语应该属于同一范畴并同时具有吸纳修饰 语反义词作为其内涵的属性。同一范畴内的若干被修饰语有中心一边缘之分。 5 矛盾修饰法与反语的生成过程有相似性。其区别在于反语是单方聚焦，强 调隐性表述。而矛盾修饰法是双方聚焦，同时强调显性和隐性表述。 我们在论证过程中分析了一些案例。这样做的主要目的是使抽象的问题具体 化，复杂的问题简单化，从而能使读者更容易地理解这一语言现象。文章包括五 部分： 第一章是对本研究的总体性描述，其中包括选题的意义，研究的价值，研究方 法，以及论文的宏观结构。 第二章是文献综述，其中包括对相关理论的回顾，对国内外相关研究的回顾和 评价，对相关研究目前存在问题的讨论并给出解决方案，以及对重要概念的解释。 第三章是论文的核心部分。该部分解析了矛盾修饰法的内部关系，阐释了“自 主一依存 理论，并根据“自主一依存理论框架提出一个新的模型，用于分析矛 盾修饰法的生成过程。 第四章从语用学、心理学和美学的角度，根据心理距离原理，从美学和心理学
