止美国唯一获得诺贝尔文学奖的剧作家，在美国戏剧史上，他也是唯一曾四次 获得普利策奖的剧作家。奥尼尔也是一位多产的作家，在他一生的艺术生涯中 完成了近5 0 部剧作，作品主题涉及社会、家庭和人性等。奥尼尔作品的共性是 深刻揭露美国社会的黑暗面，具有重大社会意义，因此倍受评论家关注。本论 文以存在主义为理论基础，试分析奥尼尔剧作中的“逃遁者 形象。奥尼尔作 品中涌现了大量的“逃遁者 ，生活中遭遇的挫折，使他们变得麻木不仁，逃避 不愿面对生活中的一切。众所周知，奥尼尔本身也是一位自闭的人，尤其是晚 年的奥尼尔几乎与世隔绝。笔者认为奥尼尔作品中出现的大量“逃遁者和他 自己生活中的逃遁存在一定联系。本文以奥尼尔的个人经历为基础，试分析奥 尼尔的多部剧作：天边外、榆树下的欲望、毛猿、送冰的人来了、进 入黑夜的漫长旅行中的“逃遁者 形象。 本论文由五章组成。 第一章是介绍部分。首先是文学回顾，包括国内外对尤金奥尼尔的研究 现状。其次是存在主义对尤金奥尼尔及其作品的影响。 第二章分析了影响尤金奥尼尔逃遁意识的根源及其作品介绍。 第三章主要论述尤金奥尼尔作品中的“逃遁者形象。论述从三个方面 进行。首先，逃遁者的各种表征；其次，逃遁的原因；最后，逃遁的结果。 第四章着重分析“逃遁者和现代人。“逃遁者 生活在一个荒诞社会，现
