分为语法衔接和词汇衔接两类。他们先后多次强调形式衔接手段的重要 性，并认为衔接是连贯的必要条件之一。另一些学者则指出，在语篇中 除了韩礼德和哈桑所提出的显明的、表层的衔接手段外，还存在一种隐 含的、深层的衔接方式，但仍未详细论及并取得一致看法。 本文试图从显性与隐性衔接的视角对英语商业广告这一特定语篇 进行系统、全面的分析。作者在前人研究的基础上，对显性衔接与隐性 衔接的概念及区别作出了明确的界定。显性衔接指语篇中“眼睛能看见 的、耳朵能听到的 ，显明的衔接方式，即语篇表面上的、形式上的一 种衔接手段；而隐性衔接则指语篇抑或缺少形式上一目了然的衔接手 段，抑或让人初看后不知所云，但通过人的认知努力或推理后，却能把 握语篇所表达的蕴含意义。显性衔接与隐性衔接均致力于实现语篇的连 贯性。在本研究中，韩礼德和哈桑所提出的语法衔接与词汇衔接均被置 于显性衔接的范畴之内。此外，显性衔接还包括音韵衔接这一“听得到” 的衔接方式与具象衔接这一“看得见 的衔接方式；隐性衔接则被划分 为语义联想衔接、含意衔接及隐性语境衔接三大类，因为理解含有隐性 衔接的语篇之连贯性离不开人的主观逻辑推理、联想等心理活动所发挥 的重要作用。基于以上的分类，作者分别论述了这些衔接手段在英语商 业广告语篇中的体现。
