The Mid-Autumn Festival, also called Yuexi, the Moon Festival, Girls Day or Reunion Festival, is a popular traditional festival in China and Chinese-character cultural circle, which is celebrated on the 15th day of 8th of the lunar calendar. In some places, the Mid-Autumn Festival is on the sixteenth day of August. The Mid-Autumn Festival dates from the early Tang dynasty and prevails in Song dynasty. In Ming and Qing Dynasties, it had grown to be a major festival in China, along with the Spring Festival. Influenced by Chinese culture, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also a traditional festival in some countries in the south and south-east Asia, especially among the local overseas Chinese. Since 2008, the Mid-Autumn has been listed as national holidays. On May 20th of 2006 , it was listed in the first national non-material cultural heritage list.Since ancient times, there have been sacrificial offerings, moon appreciation, eating moon cakes, enjoying sweet-scented osmanthus, tasting osmanthus wine and other customs in the Mid-Autumn Festival, which has been passed down to now with lasting vitality.
