内容摘要 阿瑟米勒是美国最具影响力的剧作家之一。他的代表作之一推销员之死 于1 9 4 9 年在纽约首演成功后，震惊了整个美国戏剧界。同时也在国内外评论 界引起了一场激烈的争论。从1 9 8 4 年至2 0 0 5 年，国内各类期刊上共发表近 5 0 篇有关阿瑟米勒和推销员之死的论文。而这些论文多局限于推销员 之死中所体现出的美国梦的破灭以及阿瑟米勒的现代悲剧观的研究，鲜有的 几篇从表现技巧角度探讨推销员之死的文章，也大多把焦点集中在某些表 现主义手法上，如梦幻，意识流和一些舞台的辅助手段上，并没有系统而又全 面地分析戏剧中的表现主义手法。而且在笔者所调研的文章中没有一篇全面地 分析阿瑟米勒是如何将现实主义与表现主义结合在一起的。因此，本文试图从 现实主义戏剧和表现主义戏剧的特点分析作品，从而在作品的整体结构，人物 的刻画，舞台设计和语言使用上寻求理论支撑，进一步证明推销员之死是 一出现实主义与表现主义完美结合的戏剧。 首先，本文详细阐述阿瑟米勒如何在结构上将现实主义与表现主义结合在 一起。一方面，这部戏剧的结构具有现实主义的特点。第一，它的情节统一， 结构完整。第二，结构上包含传统戏剧的四大部分：开端、发展、高潮、结局。 而且，此剧中融合了亚里士多德所说的“突转”与“发现”。另一方面，主人 公威利的思维特点决定了此剧除了以外部事件发展构成的外部结构外，还存在 以回忆往事为灵魂的内部情感结构。外部情节引发人物心理活动，人物心理导 致人物动作，动作推动情节发展。两条线索相辅相成，共同构筑全剧。 其次，本文阐述阿瑟米勒如何在人物刻画上将现实主义与表现主义结合在 一起。在剧中，阿瑟米勒刻画了美国现实社会中的一个为了自己和孩子将一生 奉献给美国梦的小人物。然而，阿瑟米勒并没有局限于对主人公威利客观现实 的描写。他通过威利的六次心理活动外化将威利生各个时期的主要生活形象 直接地展示给观众，即以表现主义的手法深刻揭示了威利作为一个被现代美国 生活挤压至精神崩溃的小人物的典型心理特征。 接着本文讨论的是阿瑟米勒如何在舞台设计上将现实主义与表现主义结 合在一起。在某种意义上，舞台上所用的都是实物道具和布景。同时，阿瑟米 勒熟练地采用了表现主义的技巧，如变化的主题音乐和复杂的灯光，将现实和 梦想、过去和未来有机的结合在一起。 同样，本文还探讨了阿瑟米勒如何在语言上将现实主义与表现主义结合在 一起。首先，舞台上所使用的语言都是日常普通用语。但是为了揭露威利脑海 中另一个世界，阿瑟米勒同样采用了可以表现威利思维过程和梦幻的一种语 言。因此，威利的语言有时是恍如梦呓般的，有时是狂热而亢奋的。
