摘要 随着中西文化的不断交流和传播，中国古典诗歌英译也受到中西翻译家的重视。 虽然中国古典诗歌英译历史由来已久，然而诗歌的翻译发展确实极其艰难的，关于中国 古典诗歌可译性与不可译性这一问题上的争论就持续至今还没有定论。笔者认为，中国 古典诗歌可译性与不可译性是问题的两面，这个问题就是中国古典诗歌英译的问题。对 中国古典诗歌可译性与不可译性的探讨固然重要，更重要的是在对这一问题研究的同时 能得到更多指导中国古典诗歌翻译的原则和方法，这才是最重要的。翻译家和翻译理论 家在中国古典诗歌翻译领域不仅翻译了很多优秀的作品而且提出了具有重大的指导意 义的理论。本文在前人理论的基础上，对可译性与不可译性两方面的争论分析后提出中 国古典诗歌翻译的基本原则，在翻译基本原则的指导下又提出如何应对所诗歌固有的不 可译性因素的翻译方法策略，并指出译者在中国古典诗歌翻译中的作用和角色。本篇论 文除了引入和结论共包括四个部分。 第一部分回顾中西译者古典诗歌的翻译，本文只是做了一个简短的回顾，提到一 些代表性的人物及其翻译活动，意在展示中西译者在中国古典诗歌翻译实践中做出的努 力。第二部分是中国古典诗歌可译性与不可译性的争论，首先是可译性理论中对可译性 的肯定和理据，然后是不可译性理论的分支理论。第三部分是本篇论文的主要部分，在 前人的理论的基础上提出中国古典诗歌翻译的原则和方法，首先对英汉两种语言环境下 的诗歌进行对比研究，找出两者的共性和个性。英汉诗歌的共性部分将会有助于中国古 典诗歌的翻译，也就具有可译性，这也使中国古典诗歌具有了英译的可能。英汉诗歌的 个性部分将会成为中国古典诗歌翻译的障碍，尤其是中国古典诗歌中个性的成分将会成 为可能不可译的部分。其次，笔者提出了两个最基本的翻译原则，所提出的翻译原则不 仅是可译性还是不可译性内在判断标准，更是翻译者进行翻译实践的指导原则。再次， 提出中国古典诗歌的翻译方法，这些方法主要是在两个原则指导下，对不可译性问题的 处理方法。第四章谈了在中古典诗歌翻译中译者的多重角色和对译者的要求，因为诗歌 的可译性与不可译性很大程度上决定于译者的水平。 关键词：中国古典诗歌英译，可译性，不可译性 a s t u d yo nt h et r a n s l a t a
