东西或是任何由各部分组成的整体，如果要显得美，就不仅要在各部分的安排 上见出秩序，而且还要有一定的体积大小，因为美就在于体积大小和秩序 ( 彭 立勋，1 9 8 6 ：3 ) 。虽然对美的探讨很早，但直到1 7 5 0 年，有着“美学之父 之称的德国美学家鲍姆加登正式用“美学 这个名称来命名他的一部专著，美 学才作为一门独立的学科存在。纵观西方美学发展史，每一种美学观点的形成 都有其现实的原因，是在继承、发展和批判前人或他人的美学主张的基础上形 成的。 乔伊斯( 18 8 2 1 9 4 1 ) 作为二十世纪最伟大最具有革新精神的小说家之一， 并未写过系统阐述他的美学思想的理论专著。他的美学思想主要借l ：肖像主 人公斯蒂芬之口以戏剧对话的方式表达出来的，同时在他早期的日记和文论中 也有记录。乔伊斯的美学思想经历了产生、成熟、发展的过程，与其创造活动 紧密相连，依次受到古希腊哲学家亚里士多德、中世纪意大利经院哲学家阿奎 那及1 8 世纪初意大利哲学家维科的影响。其中乔伊斯对阿奎那学说的思考与 吸收组成了其美学体系的核心内容，也是肖像第五章的中心论题。 肖像描述的是一个爱尔兰艺术家前二十年的心灵斗争发展史，是一部 自传体的成长小说。对肖像这部作品的研究主要集中在两个方面。一是从 作品内部着手，主要研究其结构、情节、主题、意象以及象征意义、意识流技 对乔伊斯来说，能令人愉悦的东西就是美的。美与善相对立，与真保持一 致。艺术的本质就是艺术的美和艺术的真。对审美客体的美和真，审美主体主 要靠“精神顿悟 获得。肖像就是由主人公的一个个“精神顿悟 构成 的。“完整 、“和谐”和“光彩 是美的三个不可缺少的组成部分，也是 审美过程中所必经的三个阶段。在美的“光彩 中，审美主体顿悟出审美客体 的本质，引发出审美的静态平衡。小说除借主人公把松散的情节连成一个整体 外，象征艺术，主题意象的运用及明快起伏的节奏也使小说成为完整和谐的艺 术精品。 艺术创造有三种境界：抒情的、史诗的和戏剧的。从抒情的到史诗的再到 戏剧的发展过程也就是艺术家的非个性化过程。按照乔伊斯的“非个性化 观 点，作家在创作的时候，应将自己的感受、印象、意识等自我个性融入到创作 客体中去，让自己的直觉感受直接参与人物性格的塑造，并在艺术形象的形成 过程中使自我消失。肖像主要通过内聚焦叙述的模式，斯蒂芬作为艺术家 的流亡及作品中神话结构的运用来实现“非个性化 原则。 本文最后得出结论，一，肖像是一部集理论与实践高度统一的作品。 正是那些为了实现其美学理论的各种方法使得它成为二十世纪自传小说及成 长小说的一朵奇葩。二，乔伊斯的美学理论是在继承前人基础上，根据自己的
