心的地位。它被当作一种重要的认知工具来帮助我们更好更清晰地了解这个世晁。 它是如此重要以致于成了我们赖以生存的隐喻了。 本论文从认知语言学的视角对英汉两种语言中的爱情隐喻进行了对比研究，目 的是为了从英汉两种文化的角度来支持隐喻的现代认知理论。 隐喻在传统上被视为一种语言现象。作为一组特别的或者说是比喻的语言表达 形式，它的意思可以被简化为某套字面命题。这种观点可以追溯到亚里士多德，他 是用普通语言的背离来定义隐喻的。“隐喻是给事物一个属于别的事物的名称”( 利 可，】9 7 5 ：】3 ) 。根据这个理论，隐喻在本质上主要被看作是装饰性的。这样的话， 隐喻就被称为是一种辞格，它的研究主要是限于文学和修辞方面( 莱可夫1 9 8 6 ) 。 对于隐喻的理解，目前存在以下几种理论：比较理论，替代理论，相互作用理 论，语法隐喻理论等。这些理论被认为是隐喻的语义理论。对于隐喻，仅仅从语义 方面来寻求解释是不够的，因为隐喻的运用和理解不得不涉及到语境。语义学仅仅 涉及话语的字面意思。语用学是在话语的字面意思的基础上，再加上语境的细节， 对话语的隐喻意思做出解释的。 但是语用学家在对隐喻的意思做出解释前，却不得不先做两件事情：第一，把 隐喻从其他的辞格中区分出来。格莱斯提出的标准可以部分地解决这个问题。但是 语用学家却不得不先找出众多辞格的各自的特征，以便于把隐喻从其他的辞格中明 a b s t r a c t 确地分辨出来。第二，对被认为是隐喻的话语做出解释。一般来说，与一般的具有 会话含义的话语不同，隐喻话语通常是基于两件东西的相似之处。比如说，我们能 够说某人是只狐狸是因为他们两者在性格上具有相似之处，即，狡猾。人心和石头 的相似之处是共同具有坚硬和冷酷的特征。 因此语用学家需要从心理学家那儿寻求帮助以建立事物之间的相似性的联想。 因为建立事物之间的相似性的联想是隐喻的- 心理学基础。这种心理学基础需要是由 心理学家来提供的。 隐喻的解释是一件复杂的工作，所以仅仅从语义方面，或语用方面，或心理方 面来单方面做出解释是不会成功的。隐喻的解释需要这些学科的共同协作。 因此认知语言学的兴起为解释隐喻的本质提供了一个新的视野。根据认知语言 学的奠基人莱可夫和约翰逊的观点( 1 9 8 0 ) ，隐喻在语言和思维中是无处不在的， 并占据重要地位，它是一种思维方式。人类的概念系统普遍地并不可避免地由隐喻， 转喻，和其他种类的想象结构所构成。在现代的范式中，隐喻是作为人类的概念化 的系统被研究的。人类的概念化系统在人类的思维和认知的深层起作用；同时，也 在同常语言中以系统的方式出现。 为了揭示爱情的概念系统，本论文系统地调查了大量的中英文爱情隐喻。经调 查发现，中英文爱情隐喻具有共同的中心概念系统“爱情是一个整体”，或者晚“爱 情是两个不可分的东西。”从爱情的对象的概念系统方面来看，中英文都把爱情的 对象看作“神，”“开胃的食物，”或者“美丽的东西。”从爱情的强度来看，中文中 的爱情隐喻和英文中的爱情隐喻看起来具有共同的主要的概念系统。中英文爱情隐 喻都运用“火”和“容器中的水”这样的概念系统。从生理作用和爱情的产生器官 来看，英文中在描述中只使用“心脏”，而中文中却使用一山脏，肠，肝，和与心脏 连着的肉来达到同样的目的。 通过研究，本论文发现古希腊和罗马的神话和圣经强烈地影响了英语语言中爱 情的概念化。而汉语语言中爱情的概念化则主要受下列因素的影响：阴阳理论、佛 教、中华民族的图腾，中国古代社会对音乐的重视等等。因为自从远古至今中国都 主要是一个以农业为主的国家，所以对隐喻的认知也不可避免地受到了这种因素的 影响。 本论文所做的对比研究从汉语的角度为现代隐喻理论提供了一些证据，以便有 助于把这个理论置于更广泛的跨文化视角。同时，它可以使人们对爱情这个概念有 更好更清楚的理解，有助于某些认知现象的普遍地位的建立以及有助于外语教学中 某些文化问题方面的理解。 m 。a 。卫i s s 【l a 主i q n a c o m p a
