MONGOLThe area of what is now Mongolia has been ruled by variousnomadic empires, including theXiongnu, theXianbei, theRouran, theTurkic Khaganate, and others. In 1206,Genghis Khanfounded theMongol Empire, and his grandsonKublai Khanconquered China to establish theYuan Dynasty. After the collapse of the Yuan, theMongolsretreated to Mongolia and resumed their earlier pattern of factional conflict and occasional raids on the Chinese borderlands. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Mongolia came under the influence ofTibetan Buddhism. The Tibetan influence of Mongolia dates back to theTibetan empireexpansion of Central Asia and South Asia.At the end of the 17th century, all of Mongolia had been incorporated into the area ruled by theManchusQing Dynasty. During the collapse of the Qing Dynasty the Mongols established Temporary Government ofKhalkhain 30 November 1911. On 29 December 1911 Mongolia declaredindependencefrom the Qing Dynasty and thisNational Liberation Revolutionended220 yearsof Manchu rule. Naadam Festivalis the largest festival, celebrated in every town and village across the country. It features three sporting events: wrestling, archery and horse racing, amongst other traditional games and exhibits.
