摘要 都柏林人 共有十五个短篇小说，是詹姆斯乔伊斯塑造女性人物最多的一部 作品，也是英国短篇小说史上的一个里程碑。由于当时爱尔兰的历史和环境的局限性， 乔伊斯不可避免地将女性呈现为他者，为此不少批评家把他指责为厌女症者。在以男 性利益为标准的强大父系社会中，男性占绝对的主体地位，而女性则不可避免地沦为他 者。根据存在女性主义者西蒙娜德波伏娃提出的他者理论，即女性的劣势屈从 地位不是由于生理差异而是由于文化造成的，本文系统地分析了 中女性 他者地位的形成原因，向读者展示了一个被“淹没”已久的人群。 本文第一部分介绍了乔伊斯的生平和他的女性家庭的关系对该部作品的影响，并 回顾了国内外有关乔伊斯的女性主义研究的流派，阶段及主张，还简要介绍了波伏娃的 他者理论。 第二部分介绍了女性作为宗教的受害者，深受宗教信仰中的神化、母性职责和贞 操等教条的束缚而不能自拔。 第三部分阐述了“都柏林人 中女性角色作为强大父权社会的殉难者，饱受压迫 主体男人们的酗酒、施虐、无爱婚姻以及自恋和傲慢情结的折磨，被迫接受她们的他 者地位。 第四部分介绍了“都柏林人 中各个阶段的女性角色对其他者地位的反应。她 们当中有温顺服从的少女，有强势独断的母亲，有心灰意冷的已婚妇女，失意无助的老 处女，还有具有反叛精神的女知识分子代表。但是鉴于这些女性的生存处境还是一成
