paper, through a brief description of the british drinking culture, as well as analysis of the reasons of the culture with its geography, climate and national character, to introduce the unique charm of this wine culture so that can let the world know their culture and enjoy it.1. several common wines1.1. beerbritish beer have several kinds: bitter beer, color thick and taste pain, is the most representative beer in the united kingdom; mild beer, lower alcohol content than the bitter beer, the color is deeper than the ordinary beer; pale ale, high alcohol and carbonic acid gas, shallow color; strong ale, long fermentation times, higher alcohol; stout beer, the darkest, most intense kind of beer; leger beer, the one we usually see. in recent years, british people especially like the irish stout (guinness extra stout).beer occupies an indispensable position in british life, english has a lot of beer-related proverb, on the beer means binge drinking, drunk in, small beer means insignificant trifle or the little guy, for example, even with 10,000 to invest, you are still small beer for most stockbrokers. the sentence life isnt all beer and skittles. can be translated life is not just fun and enjoy. 1.2. brandybrandy produced in the 17th century, the one produced by france is most well-known. brandy is concentrated from grape wine. at first, french men did this was to remove part of the wine tax and tariff. later, dutch called this wine brandewijn (burnt wine), later evolved into brandy.when englishman drink brandy, the cup they use calls brandy glass, which is a dwarf, spherical bigfoot cup. in british, brandy is often used as a seasoning wine. when they are making christmas pudding, they will mix a lot of brandy butter to improve the sweet. brandy snap is made with brandy sauce.1.3. whiskyin middle ages, the alchemist find the technology of producing of distilled liquor when they were alchemy, and they named this wine aqua-vitae, (latin, means the water of life). afterwards this wine-making technology spread to ancient ireland, irish call it usquebaugh(the same mean with brandewijn) after the distillation of local ale wine. this is the origin of the whisky and name origin.british whiskey is mainly scotch whiskey, there are two categories, straight whisky and blended whisky. drinking scotch whiskey with the tumbler. whiskey suitable for pre or post dinner drinks. whiskey is essential for new years eve wine in scotland. so when someone is invited to new year family gathering, whiskey is usually essential gifts.1.4. gingin is made by sylvester davis, a professor at the university of leiden, netherlands in 1660. this wine at begin was used as a medical for diuretic and clearing heat. aiming to help dutch to prevent from tropical malaria. however, the liquid smell sweet, taste good, soon it become one of official alcohol drink.gin is invented by dutch, however, it is british make gin spread until now. in the 17th century, the tax of gin is more less than other wines, besides, its inexpensive raw material, short production cycle and no long-term storage made high income. so gin was famous in england in no time.2. british and winebritish people love to drink. according to the professor martin plant, from the university of west of england, said that: it has a history of more than 2000 years that british people are portrayed as drunkard. it is said that the reason why england suffered a crushing defeat in the battle of hastings in 1066 was on the eve of this war, the conqueror william and his normandy soldiers prayer fasting, combat readiness, while the british soldiers were drunk.(英国人与酒,2008)generally being extremely fond of wine, so the bars are in everywhere and welcomed most. some british people says, first came out churches and bars, then towns. as we all know, religion and churches are divine in western, bars have an equal place with churches, we can see how important in british peoples lives. another say is that if you never go into a bar, you have never been to british. british 18th-century scholar samuel johnson has a famous saying, there is nothing which has yet been contrived by man by which so much happiness is produced as by a good tavern or inn.in the united kingdom, the wine is essential to peoples lives. bars are exactly filled with warm and full of charming beauty. generally, there are no strangers in bars, as long as reach for the glass, you can cordially, and immediately become friends. every day after work, especially in weekend and holiday, every bar is full of people. not only ordinary people treat bar as a place for communication, entertainment, rest, but also those officers and rich men are willing to bars. the robert bar, located in victoria street in the center of london, is the place where british prime minister and members of parliament frequently go.3. some reason about british wine culture3.1. geography and climateunited kingdom is an island country. she is located in the north atlantic, across the sea from the north coast of continental europe. separated from the rest of europe by the south of the english channel and eastern north sea. western and northern parts of the uk is mainly heights, east and south-east are mainly plain. the climate is mild, its not cold in winter and not hot in summer. but the uk has a foggy weather, no matter in summer or winter, there is always heavy fog outside. because of this, people have to go to the indoor pub leisure. this is part of why englishman like wine.3.2. national characterbritish ancestors are anglo saxons, they are very bold and adventurous race. however, due to the english through the middle ages detained, affected by religious and the limit of island country, they changed to notoriously conservative self-made. it also formed the character of stubborn, conservative, aloof and arrogant, inaccessible to outsiders. british people do not casually make friends, everyone stick to their own independent space. as the saying goes, an englishmans house is his castle. but englishman inherited the bold and adventurous spirit, they will also release a timely. the best place is the bar. in peacetime, englishmen seems serious laugh and manner as a gentleman, once they are in a bar, they change to another character immediately, it even can say that they manner as a rogue. alcohol is
