摘要 中国古代散文，是指韵文、骈文之外的散体文章，包括政论、史论、策论、 游记、随笔、小品等多种题材。它侧重表现内心情感，结构灵活、手法多变，具 有写实性、抒情性和随意性的特质。中国古代散文与中国古代诗歌一样，历史悠 久、源远流长，是中国古代文学中最重要、最富民族个性的文体形式，也是人类 文学史上璀璨的文化瑰宝。 散文发展到唐宋时期，题材广泛，结构严谨，遣词造句准确精炼，较之以往 时期更注重意境的创造，从整体上最大限度地体现了中文重主体、重感性、重意 合的特色，在看似流散的文字背后具有高度的统一连贯性。唐宋散文英译的直接 目的就是以英语来重构语篇：连贯性是文字成为语篇所要具备的最基本特征。在 翻译过程中将这种从文字词汇到文化心理的连贯传达给译语读者，是译者面对的 重要任务。因此运用语篇连贯理论来评析并指导中国古代唐宋散文英译是合适且 必要的。 自韩礼德和哈桑1 9 7 6 年正式提出语篇连贯这一概念以来，国内外学者对之 逐步进行深化和发展，形成了许多关于语篇连贯的理论体系。这些理论几乎涉及 到了语篇连贯的所有方面，但对于如何将之应用于翻译研究，则没有形成系统的 分析框架。在中国古代唐宋散文英译过程中，为了保持语篇的连贯性，译者需要 同时考虑到影响语篇连贯的内外因素，因为连贯作为语篇的无形网络，不仅表现 为表层的语音、语法、词汇等衔接手段，更是一种深层次的语义、信息、上下文、 社会文化心理和认知心理的关联。因此，连贯现象应同时从语篇内部( 如照应、 省略等语法因素和同义、反义、搭配等词汇因素) 和语篇外部( 包括文化和心理 上的连贯) 两方面来进行探讨。 本文对语篇连贯进行了较为详细的历史回顾，试图在前人研究的基础上对语 篇连贯这一概念作出较为深入的分析，提出了语篇连贯所涉及到的内外机制，并 分析了语篇连贯理论对翻译，尤其是对文学作品翻译的指导意义。在此基础上， 本文对中国古代唐宋散文的重要地位，写作特色及翻译难点进行了简要介绍；语 音之和谐、词汇之精炼、语境之丰富和结构之流畅作为唐宋散文写作的亮点，也 在最大程度上对译者如何在翻译过程中保持其连贯性提出了挑战。作者对大量唐 宋散文英译本中运用的连贯手段进行考察，提出了包括语音、语义( 如词汇、语 i v 法) 、语境(
