内容摘要 在人类的言语交际中，恭维语是一种使用频率较高的言语交际行 一一_ 为。中美两国语言都有丰富的恭维语，有问候、鼓励、致谢、开启话 题及缓解矛盾的功能。但是每个民族都有自己不同于其它民族的语言 和文化，这种语言和文化都具有本民族特有的表现模式和内容，具有 鲜明的民族特色。中美两国人民属于不同的民族，因此在恭维语的使 用和应答方面存在巨大的差异。在以往一些学者研究数据的基础上， 本文拟从中美恭维语的语言形式和应答方式两个方面的差异，指出跨 文化交流中，只掌握语言本身是不够的，谙习语言背后的文化是关键。 在此基础上，本文还分析了跨文化交流中恭维和接受恭维造成误解的 原因，并且提出了解决问题的办法，这对于跨文化交流具有重要意义。 本文分为五章： 第一章是关于恭维及恭维应答的简单介绍。首先，本文把恭维语 的话题分成三种类型：( 1 ) 外貌仪表，( 2 ) 成就或能力，( 3 ) 个人素 质；其次，介绍了恭维语的功能；最后作者回顾了以往学者对恭维及 恭维应答的研究历史并且阐述了作更深层次研究的出发点与必要性。 第二章比较和分析了恭维及恭维应答在汉语和美国英语这两种语 言中的差异。比较结果表明：无论是汉语还是美国英语，在语言形式 方面，恭维语都是一种非常程式化的语言行为，有限的词汇和少数的 句法形式就能构成常用的恭维语。但是美国英语中的恭维语缺乏创造 性，不如汉语中的恭维语具体和多样化。在恭维语应答方式方面，本 文揭示出在两种语言中，恭维应答方式都可以分为两大类：拒绝和赞 成。美国人并不象人们通常认为的那样在任何情况下都接受恭维，他 们有时也会拒绝恭维。中国人也不是人们公认的那样对于别人的恭维 总是表现为拒绝，他们也接受别人的恭维。只是美国人对恭维语倾向 于接受，而中国人则倾向于不接受或不正面接受，虽然中国人同样也 爱听到恭维的话，但在口头上，多数人的应答还是倾向于拒绝。究其 原因，本文总结出美国人在回答别人的恭维时，奉行的是l e e c h 的赞 同准则，而中国人遵守的是l e e c h 的谦虚准则。 第三章作者在前一章讨论的基础上，把恭维及恭维应答在汉语和 美国英语中的差异追溯到两种不同文化的价值观。除了文化这一因素， 本章还探讨了其它影响人们行使恭维这一言语交际行为的因素，如： 性别、年龄、亲密程度。 第四章是作者对于跨文化交际障碍的分析。通过一个不成功的跨 文化交际的例子，本章分析了不同文化背景的人们在跨文化交际中产 生跨文化交际障碍的原因并且提出了克服这一障碍的办法。 第五章是论文的结论部分。通过恭维及恭维应答在汉语和美国英 语这两种语言中的比较，总结出语言与文化密不可分，只有努力掌握 两种语言以及文化背景，才能在跨文化交际中尽量少出错误，这不仅
