whats four days long, bigger than seven football fields, and filled with thousands of toys? its toy fair 2014! each year, hundreds of toy companies from across the country come together in new york city. all kinds of products are shown as a way to know whats to come in the new year. this years trends (款式) include oversize toys. “in 2014, everything is really big and really out there,” says adrienne appell, a toy-trends expert. toy fair is the largest toy trade show in the western hemisphere (西半球). toy-store buyers go to the event to decide which toys they may want to sell during the holiday season. members of the media, like tfk, go to the fair to report back on all the cool trends. unfortunately, toy fair is not open to the public. this years toy fair was the biggest in its 111-year history. more than 1,000 toy companies showed products from simple card games to high-tech robots. “larger than life” was a toy fair favorite. this trend is all about big toys with a big play value. though it is all fun and games at toy fair, we saw lots of products making a push towards education, with steam. that stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and math. this trend includes word games. and of course, we saw some super cool, high-tech games. “technology is always going to influence toys,” says appell. “this year we saw lots of 3d games, and robots.” to know more information about the event, click (点击) here to watch the video.21. what can we infer from toy fair 2014?a. toys are becoming more educational than fun. b. robots are great favorites of buyers. c. big toys will be popular this year.d. simple card games will disappear on the market.22. whats special about toy fair 2014?a. it is the largest. b. it is the longest. c. it sells all of its toys. d. its held in new york city.23. whats the best title for the text?a. kids love toys b. toy-stores in new york city c. technology changes toys d. time for toys24. the text is taken from a _.a. website b. newspaper c.magazine d. textbookb adults are happy to tell their children that crusts (面包皮) will give them curly hair, carrots will help them see in the dark, and spinach will make them strong. even though adults know its not totally true, they think its good for their childrens health, a study had found. in a study about 31 per cent of adults said they once told their children the curly hair tale, and 36 per cent said theyd been told the same thing by their mother or father. among the over-50s, almost half said theyd been promised curly hair if they ate their crusts. a quarter of the 2,000 adults questioned in the study told their children carrots would help them see in the dark. this could be true to some extent because of the high levels of vitamin a and beta-carotene in root vegetables. another favorite among parents is that milk will make one strong. a third surveyed said their parents told them this, and about 29 per cent said they told their children the same thing. but while there is plenty of evidence to suggest milk is good for peoples health, there are also a lot of scientific papers saying it isnt.thanks to popeye, spinach is also fed to children, along with the idea that it will make them strong. while there is also some truth in this one, scientists now believe it is not the iron, but the inorganic nitrates (无机硝酸盐) that improve physical power. one in seven of the surveyed admitted telling their little ones that runner beans will make them run faster, which is nothing more than wordplay and has no basis in science. almost one in five adults were subjected to the same tale in childhood.just over one in 10 parents told their children green food would turn them into a superhero, and a quarter admitted hiding vegetables in meals. lyndsay jones, spokesman for persil washing up liquid, said, its clear that the most persuasive stories about food are passed on from generation to generation. our research shows that the ideas continue, and we tell our kids the same things our parents told us, even if theyre not always entirely true. crusts may not make your hair curly, but theres plenty of research that says crusts contain more of the goodness than the rest of a loaf. hopefully, as a result of our cook with kids promise, more parents will be encouraged to spend time with their children in the kitchen and teach them the truth about food.25.we can know from paragraph 3 that _.a. a third people are forced to drink milk by their parentsb. milk is beneficial to childrens physical strengthc. there is doubt whether milk is helpful to peoples healthd. about 29 percent people wish their children good health26.which of the following does lyndsay jones agree?a. adults are willing to teach their children as their parents did.b. most persuasive stories about food are false.c. stories about food shouldnt be passed on from generation to generation.d. parents cant make sure if some stories about food are totally true.27.we can learn from the passage that _.a. scientists think the iron in spinach helps children grow strongb. parents are expected to tell children the truth about foodc. runner beans can really make children run fastd. crusts are said to contain less nutrition than a loaf c there have always been a lot of commonly believed but false ideas about being fat and doing exercise. some people believe that they cant help putting on weight as they get older, while others hold that if they stop exercising, their muscles will turn into fat. here are some more myths: ill never lose weight - i come from a fat family. wrong! while we cant change the body type we are born with, we cant blame our genes for making us fat. theres plenty of evidence that fatness runs in families, and the main reason is that they share the same habits of eating too much and exercise too little. i am fat because i burn calories slowly. wrong! fatness is not caused by a slow metabolism (新陈代谢). if fact, although fat people consume more energy that slim people, they also fail to realize how much they eat! keeping a diary can help you work out your daily food intake more accurately. exercise is boring. wrong! anything will become boring if you do it many times. the key is to develop a balanced and varied program thats fun as well as progressive. if you enjoy a sunday walk, take a different route. if you do yoga, try a tai chi class. if you like swimming, set yourself a distance or time challenge. no pain, no gain. wrong! exercise is not meant to hurt. indeed, pain is your body telling you somethings wrong, and continuing to exercise could lead to serious injury. you may experience mild discomfort as you begin to exercise regularly, but this your body adapting to the positive changes in your lifestyle and the aches should disappear ly quickly. if you dont, rest and seek medical advice.28. what does the author think about being fat?a. it is the family genes that make people fat.b. people are fat because they consume too little energy.c. a diary of exercise can prevent people from becoming fat.d. it is the result of peoples unbalanced lifestyle.29. according to the author, how can we make exercise more interesting?a. by taking varied exercise. b. by choosing simple exercise.c. by doing regular exercise. d. by sticking to outdoor exercise.30. what is the authors opinion about “no pain, no gain” in exercising?a. keeping fit is essentially a painful experience.b. exercise should be stopped if continuous pain is felt.c. pain in exercise is a precondition(前兆) for reaching your goal.d. getting used to pain leads to positive changes in your body.31. what is the purpose of the passage?a. to declare the importance of keeping fit.b. to clarify some misunderstanding about fatness and exercise.c. to confirm what has long been believed about keeping fit.d. to explain some medical facts about being fat and doing exercise.d there is a famous story about british poet samuel taylor coleridge. he was writing a poem when he was interrupted by a knock at the door. this was an age before telephones. someone was delivering a message. when coleridge got back to his poem, he had lost his inspiration. his poetic mood had been broken by the knock on his door. his unfinished poem, which could otherwise have been a masterpiece, would now never be more than a little piece. this story tells how unexpected communication can destroy an important thought, which brings us to the cell phone. the most common complaint about cell phones is that people talk on them to the annoyance of people around them. but more damaging may be the cell phones interruption of our thoughts. we have already entered a golden age of little white lies about our cell phones, and this is by and large (大体上) a healthy, protective development. “i didnt hear it ring” or “i didnt realize my phone had shut off” are among the lies we tell to give ourselves space where were beyond reach. the notion of being unreachable is not a new conceptwe have “do not disturb” sign on the doors of hotel rooms. so why must we feel guilty when it comes to cell phones? why must we apologize if we decide to shut off the phone for a while? now time alone, or a conversation with someone next to us which cannot be interrupted by a phone, is something to be cherished. even cell phone devotees(信徒), myself usually included, cant help at times wanting to throw their phones away, or curse(咒骂) the day they were invented. but we dont and wont, and there really is no need. all thats required to take back our private time is a general social recognition that we have the right to it. in other words, we have to develop a healthy contempt (轻视)for the rings of our own phones. a cell phone call deserves no greater priority than a random word from the person next to us,though the call on my cell phone may be the one-in-a-million from steven spielbergwho has finally read my novel and wants to make it his next movie. but most likely it is not, and im better off thinking about the idea i just had for a new story, or the slice of pizza ill eat for lunch.32. what is the point of the anecdote about the poet coleridge in the first three paragraphs?a. to emphasize the disadvantage of not having a cell phone.b. to encourage readers to read the works of this poet.c. to show how important inspiration is to a poet.d. to direct readers attention to the main topic.33. what does the writer think about people telling “white lies” about their cell phones?a. it is a way of signaling that you dont like the caller.b. it is basically a good way to protect ones privacy.c. we should feel guilty when we cant tell the truth. d. it is natural to tell lies about small things.34. according to the author, what is the most annoying problem caused by cell phones?a. cell phones interrupt peoples private time.b. with cell phones it is no longer possible to be unreachable.c. people feel guilty when they are not able to answer their cell phones.d. people get so obsessed with the cell phone rings that they fail to notice anything else.35. what does the last paragraph imply?a. never let cell phones disturb your life too much.b. a person who calls us from afar deserves more of our attention.c. steven spielberg once called the author to talk about the authors novel.d. you should always finish your lunch before you answer a call on the cell phone.第二部分 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。you may have grown up living with sisters and brothers, or this may be your first time sharing your living space with someone else. 36however, it
