辽宁省凤城市2017年高考英语一轮阅读理解选编五【2016模拟题】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(a、b、c和d)中,选出最佳选项。 according to the us government, wind farms off the pacific coast could produce 900 gigawatts of electricity every year. unfortunately, the water there is far too deep for even the tallest windmills to touch bottom. an experiment under way off the coast of norway, however, could help put them anywhere. the project, called hywind, is the worlds first large-scale deepwater wind turbine (涡轮发电机). although it uses a fairly standard 152-ton, 2. 3-megawatt turbine, hywind represents totally new technology. the turbine will be fixed 213 feet above the water on a floating spar, a technology hywinds creator, the norwegian company statoilhydro, has developed recently. the steel spar, which is filled with stones and goes 328 feet below the sea surface, will be tied to the ocean floor by three cables ; these will keep the spar stable and prevent the turbine from moving up and down in the waves. hywinds stability in the cold and rough sea would prove that even the deepest corners of the ocean are suitable for wind power. if all goes according to the plan, the turbine will start producing electricity six miles off the coast of southwestern norway as early as september. to produce electricity on a large scale, a commercial wind farm will have to use bigger turbines than hywind does, but its difficult enough to balance such a large turbine so high on a floating spar in the middle of the ocean. to make that turbine heavier, the whole spars center of gravity must be moved much closer to the oceans surface. to do that, the company plans to design a new kind of wind turbine, one whose gearbox (变速箱) sits at sea level rather than behind the blades. hywind is a test run, but the benefits for perfecting floating wind-farm technology could be extremely large. out at sea, the wind is often stronger and steadier than close to shore, where all existing offshore windmills are planted. deep-sea farms are invisible from land, which helps overcome the windmill-as-eyesore objection. if the technology catches on, it will open up vast areas of the planets surface to one of the best low-carbon power sources available. 1. the hywind project uses totally new technology to ensure the stability of . a. the cables which tie the spar to the ocean floor b. the spar which is floating in deep-sea water c. the blades driven by strong and steady sea wind d. the stones filled in the spar below the sea surface2. to balance a bigger turbine high on a floating spar, a new type of turbine is to be designed with its gearbox sitting . a. on the sea floorb. on the spar topc. at sea leveld. behind the blades3. wide applications of deepwater wind power technology can . a. solve the technical problems of deepwater windmills b. make financial profits by producing more turbines c. settle the arguments about environmental problems d. explore low-carbon power resources available at sea参考答案1-3 bcd meteorological organization and the united nations environment program, reports that the average surface temperature of the earth has increased during the twentieth century by 0.6+ 0.2c.(the + 0.2c means that the increase might be as small as 0.4c or as great as 0.8c). this may seem like a small shift, but although regional and shortterm temperatures do fluctuate(变动) over a wide range, global temperatures are generally quite stable. in fact, the difference between todays average global temperature and the average global temperature during the last ice age is only about 5 degrees c. indeed, its warmer today around the world than at any time during the past 1,000years, and the warmest years of the previous century have occurred within the past decade.we also know that human activitiesprimarily the burning of fossil fuelshave increased the greenhouse gas content of the earths atmosphere significantly over the same period. carbon dioxide is one of the most important greenhouse gases, which trap heat near the planets surface. the vast majority of climate researchers agree with these overall findings. the scientific disagreements that do still exist primarily concern detailed aspects of the processes that make up these largely accepted general themes.you can think of this website as a window into the world of scientific research. in this primer, youll find a general discussion of the physical processes underlying the earths climate, an outline of the kinds of data that may shed light on how the climate is changingand the role of human activity in these changesand a description a some of the questions and uncertainties that researchers continue to explore. this primer is organized into four interconnected sections: the atmosphere; the hydrosphere(水圈); the cryosphere(低温层); and the biosphere(生物层).we know from the text that “ipcc”_.engages in the climate and changes about the earth.is a group by scientists who like to walk around the catch up to gagnam style. the video asks the question, “what does the fox say?” its a good question. and it seems, at least according to the music video, there is no good answer. actors in the video dress up like the animals theyre singing about. one of the brothers dresses up like a fox. there is a surprising and silly dance in the video that takes the viewer a bit off-guard. the videos appeal is the songs simple rhythm and catchy chorus (副歌). the makers of the video never expected the video to do well or even to be taken seriously. in fact, it started out as a joke. the song was written by two brothers from norway, vegard and bard ylvis ker. the brothers have their own late-night talk show in norway. they thought the video would be so bad that it would give them something to talk about on their show. on their website, they say the video was “supposed to entertain a few norwegians for three minutes and thats all.” but people started loving it. some people say that once you listen to the delightfully silly song, you want to listen to it again and again. the brothers have been guests on some major north american talk shows. they say theyre happy about the success of their video, but they know that tomorrow something else could come along and be even bigger.32. what can be learnt about the music video invented by psy? a. it featured the traditional style of korean music. b. it closest in meaning to _.a. annoyed. b. offended. c. unexpected. d. relaxed.【答案】 32d33a34a35c33. a 推理判断题。根据文章倒数第二段最后一句some people say that once you listen to the delightfully silly song, you want to listen to it again and again.可知有些人一听到这个令人高兴的音乐就会一遍一遍地再听。说明这首歌能够抓住听众的心。故a正确。34. a 推理判断题。根据第三段最后一句the videos appeal is the songs simple rhythm and catchy chorus (副歌).可知这首歌的节奏很简单,说明人们很喜欢这种简单容易的风格的歌。故a正确。35. c 猜测词义题。根据本句there is a surprising and silly dance in the video that takes the viewer a bit off-guard. researchers at the university of kansas say that people can accurately judge 90 percent of a strangers personality simply by looking at the persons shoes.“shoes convey a thin but useful piece of information about their wearers,” the authors wrote in the new study published in the journal of research in personality. “shoes serve a practical purpose, and also serve as nonverbal(非语言的) indications with symbolic messages. people tend to pay attention to the shoes they and others wear.”medical daily notes that the details detected in the study include a persons general age, sex, income, political affiliation(派别), and other personality characteristics, including someones emotional stability.lead researcher omri gillath said the judgments were based on the style, cost, color, and condition of someones shoes. in the study, 63 university of kansas students looked at pictures showing 208 different pairs of shoes worn by the studys participants. volunteers in the study were photographed in their most commonly worn shoes, and then filled out a personality questionnaire.so, some of the results were expected: people with higher incomes most commonly wore expensive shoes, and flashier footwear was typically worn by extroverts(外向者).however, some of the more specific results are interesting. for example, “practical and functional” shoes were generally worn by more “agreeable” people, while ankle boots went more closely with “aggressive” personalities. the strangers of all may be that those who wore “uncomfortable looking” shoes tend to have “calm” personalities.and if you have several pairs of new shoes or take exceptional care of them, you may suffer from “attachment anxiety”, spending a large amount of time worrying about what other people think of your appearance.there was even a political calculation in the mix with more liberal types wearing “shabbier and less expensive” shoes.the researchers noted that some people will choose shoe styles to mask their actual personality characteristics, but researchers noted that volunteers were also likely to be unaware that their footwear choices were showing deep awareness into their personalities.according to omri gillath, a strangers personality can be judged by _.the age and sex of the personthe personality questionnaire by the personthe emotional stability of the personthe shoes the person wears we can infer from paragraph 2 that _.a practical purpose is to wear had stopped giving milk. the streams were long gone back into the earth. if we didnt see some rain soon we would lose everything.i was in the kitchen making lunch for my husband and his brothers when i saw my six-year old son, billy, walking toward the woods. he was obviously walking with a great effort. trying to be as still as possible. minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out again, toward the house.moments later, however, he was once again walking in that slow purposeful long step toward the woods. this activity went on for over an hour: walking cautiously to the woods, then running back to the house. finally, my curiosity got the best of me. i crept out of the house and followed him on his journey.he was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked; being very careful not to spill the water he held in them. branches and thorns slapped his little face but he did not try to avoid them. he had a much greater purpose. as i leaned in to spy on him, i saw the most amazing site.several large deer appeared threatening in front of him. but billy walked right up to them.
