BAround four years ago, I received a call from the principal of our school as to the “Parents View” talk the next morning. He asked me to speak to the group. After the call, my whole body became feverish and panicky. The time from his call to the next morning seemed like years. The whole night, I could not sleep with many ominous apprehensions in mind. One of them was to call the principal with regret and tell him that I could not come. Finally, I gathered some courage. I thought, “If I miss this opportunity, surely the school will never invite me again to any of their programs.”I reached the school in time. Before my turn came, my whole body was trembling. When my turn came and I started speaking, my heartbeat increased and my mouth went dry. I wasnt even able to read the written speech properly. I was not aware of where I was standing and what I was reading. That was the day when I realized my biggest weakness, Public Speaking. After my speech, I met with the principal and explained what happened to me. He told me that this happened to everyone. Even great speaker, faced the same things when they started. He suggested that I come again next time.Around one month later, I was invited to refer to a topic on Motivation. This time I was feeling comfortable. My speech was not only appreciated by the principal as well as the teachers, because I was able to get my idea across to them. They encouraged and praised my efforts. After delivering successfully, I became more confident. I said to myself, “If I can speak in front of such a learned audience, like the principal who educates others, I can now speak in front of others too.”I started delivering lectures in my plant, on various topics like Self Motivation, Personality Development, Personal Excellence, Spoken English and Presentation Skills. This has become a passion for me. I learned that everything is possible if we have the courage to take the first step. 25. Which of the following is the hest title for the passage?A. The author had bad feelings before the speech because_.A. he regretted accepting the invitationB. he had got a high fever before thatC. he feared he couldnt perform it properly D. he disliked the idea of giving a lecture27. What does the underlined part “ominous apprehensions” in the first paragraph meanA. Negative ideas. B. Unlucky opportunities.C. Curious views. D. Happy comments. CThe Queens English is now sounding less upper-class, a scientific study of the Queens Christmas broadcasts has found. Researchers have studied each of her messages to the Commonwealth countries(英联邦国家) since 1952 to find out the change in her pronunciation from the noble Upper Received to the Standard Received.Jonathan Harrington, a professor at Germanys University of Munich, wanted to discover whether accent changes recorded over the past half century would take place within one person.“As far as I know, there just is nobody else for whom there is this sort of broadcast records,” he said.He said the noble(高贵的) way of pronouncing vowels(元音) had gradually lost ground as the noble upper-class accent over the past years. “Her accent sounds slightly less noble than it did 50 years ago. But these are very, very small and slow changes that we dont notice from year to year.”“We may be able to relate it to changes in the social classes,” he told The Daily Telegraph, a British newspaper. “In 1952 she would have been heard saying thet men in the bleck het. Now it would be that man in the black hat. Similarly, she would have spoken of the citay anddutay, rather than citeeanddutee ,andhamerather thanhome. In the 1950s she would have been lorst, but by the 1970s lost.” The Queens broadcast is a personal message to the Commonwealth countries. Each Christmas, the 10-minute broadcast is put on TV at 3 pm in Britain as many families are recovering from their traditional turkey lunch. The results were published in the Journal of Phonetics.28. The Queens broadcasts were chosen for the study mainly because .A. she has been Queen for many yearsB. her speeches have been recorded for 50 years C. her speeches are familiar to many peopleD. she has a less upper-class accent now29. Which of the following is an example of a less noble accent in English?A. “Citee”. B. “Dutay”. C.“Hame”. D.“Lorst”.30. We may infer from the text that the Journal of Phonetics is a magazine on .A. personal messages B. Christmas customsC. speech sounds D.TV broadcasting 31. What is the text mainly about?A. The relationship between accents and social classes.B. The Queens Christmas speeches on TV.C. The recent development of the English language.D. The changes in a persons accent. DHello. Its one of the first words we learn as babies, yet its one of the last ones we think to use as adults. Thats unfortunate, because saying hello is more than just saying hello it is noticing anothers worth. How might the world change how might we change if we mastered this word? To find it out, I spent one month saying hello to every person I met. Heres what Ive learned. It can improve productivity. In one of the few studies ever done on this subject, Allan Allday, an assistant professor of special education at Oklahoma State University, had middle school teachers greet their students individually each morning. This exchange of greetings raised the kids productivity. School went from impersonal to personal, and that resulted in more class participation and better grades.Environments influence friendliness. And researchers say pleasant environments generally encourage more smiles and hellos than unpleasant ones. My experience was similar. Whatever the reason, my urban hellos were answered far less often than my rural ones. Similarly, people in vacation spots, like the Jersey Shore, were far friendlier than those hurrying to work downtown. Its a form of universal health insurance. Its impossible to say hello without smiling. And smiling has been shown to lower blood pressure, relieve stress and improve happiness. Apparently, a smile creates a similar effect on the recipient (接受者). So maybe we can make the world a better place by saying hello to each other. After a month of doing it, I feel lighter and more connected and I have a better sense of wellbeing.32What can be inferred in Paragraph 1?AAdults are not willing to say hello.BThe first word we learn as babies is hello. CSaying hello is resistance to anothers worth.DThe writer wasted a month saying hello to every person.33The underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 probably means that .Ateachers and students got friendlier so that the students became more active and scored higher Bthe exchange of greeting resulted in the increasing number of school studentsCstudents can get higher scores in tests because they greet their teachers every dayDin private schools, there is more class participation and better grades34According to the passage, smiling can have the following effects on health except .Alowering blood pressureBimproving intelligence Cincreasing pleasureDreducing pressure35Whats the writers purpose of writing the passage?ATo tell us saying hello can improve productivity.BTo tell us saying hello is a form of universal health insurance.CTo prove that environments influence friendliness.DTo advise us to say hello more often.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。About 45% of the people surveyed say their workplace is the hardest place to sell a good idea. Mattson recommends repeating your idea six times before presenting it to decisionmakers. “The first one or two times, youll still be figuring out how you want to put it,” he says. “By the sixth time, you will be usually speaking with certainty and confidence.”5Get others to weigh in. “Successful selling isnt I ;its we,” Mattson says. “_40_. So include their suggestions in your idea.” Not only will that probably make the idea even better, but youll still get the credit for having gotten the ball rolling.APeople want to be part of a solutionBEverybody hates to be sold but loves to buyCTake baseball athletes as your role model DTalk on the phone in an effective wayEFind someone you trust who will hear you outFUse your voice, rather than email GNever buy what you dont need第三部分:英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)第一节完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。To live harmoniously, we need to be supportive and helpful. _41_ “being of service” is the essential part of being a good citizen, it also feels good to help others.
