These two bus interfaces can be a) Connected to one via one bus cable (slave redundancy) b) Connected to two masters (primary and backup master) via one bus cable (slave redundancy and redundancy, also called flying redundancy) c) Connected to two masters (primary and backup master) via two separate bus cables (system redundancy). This concept works only for RS 485 interface as physical layer. PROFIBUS PA works typically with Manchester Bus Powered transmission (MBP) where the devices are powered via bus cable and therefore there is no redundant slave having two bus interfaces. Hence in PROFIBUS PA two separate identical slaves are to be used.
