This material is the last unit in Book 1, and the students in senior Grade 1 still have passion for life in senior middle school. They are eager to show themselves, but their command of English is not that good. So the tasks should be designed neither too difficult nor too easy.Contents: 1. Vocabulary: quality, warm-hearted, mean, active, generous, easy-going, self, devote, found, republic, principle, peaceful, mankind 2. Some information of great people Objectives: 1. Instructional objectives (language knowledge and language skills) 1) Students are able to get the meanings of the new words;2) Students are able to use the new words and structures to talk about people around them, especially their heroes. 2. Educational objectives (affect, learning strategy and cultural awareness) 1) Students are able to get some basic information about great people around the world; 3) Students are able to get the main information from a dialogue. 3. Personal objectives Students are able to develop themselves by learning the excellent personalities of the great people;Focal points:1. The adjectives to describe a great persons character2. How to talk about a great person with your friends. Difficult points:1. How to get students to make a dialogue fluently,2. How to inspire students to learn from those great persons.Produces and time allotment Stage 1 Getting students ready for learning (5 mins)Step 1 GreetingsT: Good morning, everyone.Ss: Good morning, teacher.Step 2 Routine task A student will give the class a short speech. After that, the teacher will ask several students to share their ideas about the speech. Stage 2 Lead-in (2mins) T: Boys and girls, do you know what the date it is today? Ss: Nov. 3rd T: Great. I find these days people are excited, especially those who have passion for shopping online, right? Ss:Yes, it is Nov. 11th T: That is it. Then, do you know something special happened on Nov.11th, 2009? A day was made to honour Nelson Mandela. It is Jul.18th. Who could tell me some information about this great one? Ss:(some students are volunteered to share something about the hero)Stage 3 Task 1 Dialogue (10mins) Step 1 Presentation of Nelson Mandela and new words The teacher makes a conclusion about what Nelson did during his whole life,( the details are shown by the PPT and a short video)and lead to the definition of a hero. Then, students are required to think of the qualities a hero should be with, at the same time, the new words which are used to describe heroes are presented on the PPT. The teacher leads the students to get the pronunciation, meaning and usage of those new words. Step 2 Dialogue After the learning of the new words, students are allowed to talk with their partner about the hero in their heart and why they think those people can be considered as heroes. 2 minutes later, some of the pairs will present the dialogue to the class. Stage 4 Task 2 Discussion (12mins) Step 1 know more heroes around the world Students follow the teacher to learn various heroes around the world with rich materials to enrich students knowledge. Step 2 Discussion Students can discuss with teammates in a group of 4 to find the great personalities we can find in all the heroes, what we can learn from those heroes and the difference between heroes in the old days and in the highly developed century. Any group member should be able to give their groups opinions.Stage 5 Task 3 Listening (6mins) Students listen to the song “hero” and fill in the blanks one by one. They can also sing with the singer.Stage 6 Assigning homework (5mins)Step 1 Conclusion Choose some of the students to help all
