This has close relationship with Americans modern education, especially family education. As the basic and most important part of the society, family is the first environment for children to receive education and get in touch with the society. Thus, no other kind of education can replace it. Whereas, there are many differences between American and Chinese education. Some successful experiences in America merit reference and study. With the correlation method, the example law and the literature law, the thesis summarizes generally three characteristics of American family education in the film Dolphin Tale: emphasizing on love education; developing self-awareness and family education democratization. It gives a detailed discussion about the methods, ideas and characteristics of American family education, and puts forward some opinions and suggestions for the reform of family education in ChinaChina: developing non-intellectual factors. Establishing caring and guiding family atmosphere. This paper aims at providing efficient reference for the scientification, modernization, rationalization and harmonization of Chinese family education. Key words Family education; Dolphin Tale; America; ChinaChina 美国家庭教育对我国家庭教育的启示 以电影海豚的故事为例广西师范大学漓江学院外语系商务英语专业 200913001007 郭翔宇指导老师:周玲玲讲师内容摘要 自资产阶级革命以来，随着自然科学和大工业的迅速发展，美国的科学技术和经济发展走在了世界的前列。这与美国的现代教育，特别是家庭教育有着密切的关系。家庭作为社会最基本的组成部分，是孩子们接受教育、接触社会的第一个环境，家庭教育的作用是其他教育所无法取代的。由于东西方文明的差异，在家庭教育方面，美国也存在一些与我国不同的地方，它对造就和培养现代人才有突出的作用，值得我们借鉴。本文以美国电影海豚的故事为线索，采用文献资料分析法、观察法、举例法和比较研究法得出了美国家庭教育的三个大的特点：重视爱的教育；发展自我意识；注重家庭教育民主化。在文中对每一点在电影中的表现加以详细论述，并提出一些家庭教育改革的意见和建议：重视开发非智力因素；建立关爱型家庭教育等，旨在为我国家庭教育更加科学化、现代化、合理化和和谐化提供行之有效的参考意义。关键词家庭教育；海豚的故事；美国；中国iiiI. IntroductionEducation is the cornerstone of the modern civilization. Technological advancement, economic prosperity and social development depend fundamentally on the improvement of laborer quality and the cultivation of talent. Whats more, worldwide economic competition and overall changes of technology between nations is, in the final analysis, competition for talent. Talented persons competition has become the international competition theme song. The new battle between countries, in the final analysis, has become the dispute over high-tech, and high-tech professionals, who can hardly be cultivated without advanced educational theory and excellent education techniques. So, education is essential for the enhancement of overall national strength. As is known to all, teaching children is inherent responsibilities for parents, so family is often considered the starting point for people to receive education. As an independent teaching form, family education came into being long before school education. It is the basic education for childrens realization of the socialization.Modern family education is a kind of interactive education based on two-way communications and mutual influence between family members. The main contents include health education, intelligent education, emotional education and lifelong guidance education. The purpose and mission of family education is to accommodate to the demands of the society” (Wu, 2010:53). With the development of the society, the importance of family education has been realized accordingly. The prevalence of teaching children in at home but not rather than send them to school is a phenomenon showings the irreplaceable role of family education. Compared with school education, family education has the advantages described as “guidance, infectivity, authority, pertinency and life-long impact determine its importance for children” (Wu, 2010:67). However, everything has two sides. Sscattered content of family education makes it impossible for family to have a systematic effect on the educated. The advanced scholarly attainment is surely unprecedented, and thatwhich has a close relationship with American family education. Influenced by its history and culture, the unique characteristics of Amarican had a profound effect on its training of high-caliber personnel accordingly. As a nation with a relatively short history, the US doesnt have so much traditional ideology and culture. With less restraint, it is able to accept new ideas faster under the influence of cultural diversity and multifacet of value. “Exactly, this advantage fits in well with the demand for talent at the present and in the future because we need a new generation which is innovative, practical, responsible and collaborative” (Wang, 2009: 9). American culture has been the subject of attention for a long time, and American family education has also been appreciated by many people worldwide.In ChinaChina, family education has been considered very important from ancient times. They have a n old saying called that “fFather is to blame for his sons faults.” This sentence is highlighted for their attention of to family education. In resent years, with the continued deepening of the reform and opening in ChinaChina, the defects of traditional education are being exposed under the impact of out-of-town education?/out-of-town education. 什么意思？ . ChinaChina has witnessed great achievement in every line of work, education included. Meanwhile, family education develops in both theory and practice at a speed never known before. The main features of the research in ChinaChina are listed as follows:First, the number of papers is increasing and the content is growing. Second, these Papers researches family education from multi-subjects, multi-angles and comprehensive applications. Third, these papers have a deepen relationship with social development as they have a strong feature of era (Yu, 20009:240).Obviously, from the founding of P.R.C, especially the reform and opening-up policy, the study on family education has been in the course of developing, deepening and opening up constantly. Family education in ChinaChina has already entered upon a new historical stage and relevant work has been proceeding in an orderly way. “At present, the major theoretical viewpoints and research issues about family education include the basic conceptions of family education, the contents and methods of family education and so on” (Feng, 2010:173). However, the situation is also not so optimistic for this country. There are still many problems presented. Firstly, family education still requires more attention and theory research still cannot meet the needs of the improvement of the quality of educational practice. An important reason for the difficulties of the development of family education is that still a lot of people dont consider family education as an independent discipline. They educate their children privately and optionally, with too much empiricism. Secondly, there are still a plenty of problems for the research on measures in family education. Most of them are confined to or too heavily weighted in investigation or discrimination of the status quo. Reference, cooperation and accumulation are rare to see among researches, and many of them are similar to each other. Whats more, research methods also have a lot of problems. The Collection of materials is subjective and one-sided (Zhou, 2008加上页码). Those problems restrict the research of family education to go deeper enormously. Thus it is clear that the development of family education still has a long way to go before it becomes comprehensive and well-organized. As an important component of family life, family education is often reflected in films. Through research these differences between ChinaChina and western countries can not only initiate our pondering, but also adjust the methods of family education against the laws of growth promptly. In this way, people expect to create a kind of home-educational pattern that is more reasonable and perfect. However, there are only limited researches on American family education based on film, and most of them are focus on the cooperation between Chinese and American education. For example, see different ways of family education between ChinaChina and America are from the Little Miss Sunshine written by Zhao Fuxia in 2009 .(Zhao Fuxia , 2009) .The thesis takes film Dolphin Tale as an example to expore family education in America. ItThis paper puts the respect on the analysis of American family education, trying to expand our horizon in this field, pluging the holes in the theory to a certain extent and provideing reference for the build of the system of family education with Chinese characteristics in ChinaChina. For the family education reform, this paper puts forward four suggestions forward: avoid a series of problems resulted from utilitarianism education and develop non-intellectual factors; create mutual caring and guiding family atmosphere and give the young guidance correctly and respect children and improve self-awareness.同级标题之间不需空行，不同级之间需空一行，后面的自己纠正，可参照手册。II. A Brief Introduction to the Film Dolphin TaleThis movie, inspired by a true story, is about a lonely and friendless 11 year-old boy, Sawyer, who untangled a hurt dolphin caught in a crab trap, and sent her to the Clearwater Marine Hospital. He became very attached to the dolphin called Winter when the tail must be taken off to save the dolphins life. He became Winters mother in its heart and took care of her. Whats more, it seems that Sawyer has some special talent: he can easily understand whats in Winters mind. Actually, a dolphin without tail is not able to swim normally although she learned how to swing side by side because it would do harm to her column. Fortunately, enlightened by the disabled, Sawyer believes Winter would be able to swim normally if it was given a prosthetic tail. Although there are lots of obstacles in this process, Sawyer and the people in Clearwater Marine Hospital never gave up because in their heart, Winter is exactly a member of their family. And finally, they did it. For Sawyer, Winter not only changed a boring summer vocation but also transformed his character, and made him understand the real meaning of family. Winter became a symbol of freedom, wisdom and courage in America and inspired Americans from generation to generation IIIAn Overall View of American Family Education in Dolphin TaleDolphin tale connects a childrens growing-up experience with an animals recovery subtly and reveals some unique methods, ideas and characteristics of American family education.3.1 Personality Shaping Calls for Feeling Love from the FamilyWhat impress audiences most in the film are the scenes filled with love. American people stress on love education very much. Loves appeal is so strong that it can melt the glacier in heart. And love is also of great weight for childrens growth. 3.1.1 Increase Happiness by Supporting Children to Pursue Rosy DreamSuffering from examination failure and fathers disappearance, Sawyer had once been an introversive and indifferent boy. But it was lucky that he encountered Winter. The special relationship between them made him distinctive, and full of passion and vitality. For his mother, Lorraine, that is exactly what she wants to see: a boy excited about something. What she saw in the Clearwater Marine Hospital amazed her because Sawyers face was irradiated with joy, and he did it with skill and ease while communicating with marine animals. Finally, she agreed with Sawyer to do what he likes, and even said to the teacher in summer school: “Sawyer is having the best summer of his entire life. And he is willing to do whatever it takes. I wasnt happy about it at first either. But I am seeing something that a mother, a teacher dreams of seeing: a turned-on kid. He is so engaged, and its not with a game boy. Its with something that is alive and beautiful and real.” Its easy to find an important belief of American education from the words: 这是谁的话？what really counts is to attain happiness from the work they are doing. Helping kids to have a positive attitude towards life and live happily is a mission for family education that cant be neglected. Unlike the idea of Chinese parents that success is to study well and get a good job, their American parents counterparts focus more on personality molding, for example: a sense of achievement and contentment. Different goals lead to different directions. Sound society endowment insurance system has been established in America; as a result, they are more likely to carry out quality-oriented education because parents are liberated from economic worries. Only if kids can earn their own living and contribute to the society could they do whatever they like.3.1.2 Enhance Kids Sense of Belonging by Being Trustworthy Parents“The socialization of children is realized by developing a relationship with the other family members. And as the most important aspect of family education, oral education normally starts from emotion education” (Wu, 2010: 89). Without emotion, one tends to be indifferent to the people and things around them, depriving people of their energy and vigor. It is just the contaction between childern and family members, especially parents that make them understend the relationship between individuals, individual and the collectivity, and individual and the socienty initially. So, mutual trust between parents and kids is essential for a childs growth, and its also the most radical premise to educate a child well. Only if having confidence in their parents can they open their mind, and share happiness and sorrow with their parents. In contrast to feeling helpless, they feel a sence of security in a happy home, and believe they deserve to be loved, and thus a sense of belonging arises spontaneously then. “With love, they are able to deal with complex situations, and their enormous potential will be easier to be highly developed” (Chen, 2011 :1). This is also presented in the film. The great support from mother and his concern for Winter made Sawyer more and more confident and creative. Whats more, he begins to know what family means for individuals, and that makes him no longer silent and indifferent. In a scene of the film, Kyle, Sawyers cousin, lost his leg in the army and came back to his home town. Instand of having family members and close friends to lean on, he went straightly to the VA hospital. Saywer was so worried about him that he did what he could to contact Kyle. At last, he went to see Kyle with his mother, but Kyle asked them to leave
