Questions 41 to 43:Nonetheless, the definition does offer several advantages. It closely resembles the AMAs widely and easily understood definition. In several ways, it carefully describes the essential characteristics of international marketing. First, it makes it clear what is to be exchanged is not restricted to tangible products, but can include concepts and services as well. When the United Nations promotes such concepts as birth control and breast feeding, this should be viewed as international marketing. Tables1-1 and 1-2 show how two organizations promote the concept of preservation of tropical forests. Likewise, services or intangible products are just as relevant to the definition, because airline flights, financial services, advertising services, management consulting, marketing research, and so on all play a very significant role in improving the trade balance of the United States.Second, the definition removes the implication that international marketing applies only to market or business transactions. International nonprofit marketing, which has received only scant attention, should not be overlooked. The marketing of state governments and of religion underscores this point. State governments are very active in marketing in order to attract foreign investment. Religion is also a big business, though most people prefer not to view it that way. Religion has been marketed internationally for centuries. Well-known exporters of religion have included Billy Graham and Jimmy Swaggart. Their television programs have been shown in many countries. Overseas trips by such figures can generate a great deal of publicity at home and abroad.Third, the definition recognizes that it is improper for a firm to create a product first and then look for a place to sell it. Rather than seeking consumers for a firms existing product, it is often more logical to determine consumer needs before creating a product to satisfy those needs. For overseas markets, the process may call for a modified product. In some cases, following this approach may result in foreign needs being satisfied in a new way, i.e., a brand new product is created specifically for overseas markets.Fourth, the definition acknowledges that place or distribution is just part of the marketing mix and that the distance between markets makes it neither more nor less important than other parts of the mix. Place, product, promotion, and price, the 4 Ps of marketing, must be integrated and coordinated in order to bring about the most effective marketing mix.41. Which is proper to do if a firm is to make more money?A. To do no efforts to meet peoples needs.B. To determine consumer needs before creating a product to satisfy those needs.C. To create a product first and then look for a place to sell it.D. To create a product before looking for a place to sell it. 42. Why must the 4 Ps of marketing be integrated and coordinated?A. To bring about the most effective marketing mix.B. In order to bring about the least effective marketing mix.C. Because the distance between markets makes it neither more nor less important.D. Because the distance between markets makes it both important and necessary.43. What plays a very significant role in improving the trade balance of the United States?A. Airline flights and financial services. B. Advertising services and management consulting.C. Marketing research and IT services D. A and B and C(B). Questions 44 to 47:Ants dont carry calendars around with them any more than fiddler crabs possess real wrist watches. But ants show amazing accuracy as to the day of the year. Each year, an ant nest sends out winged, young queens on mating flights. Hundreds of them may fly out of a single nest in the soil. Last summer, at the crest of my mountain, I watched an ant city prepare to send forth its young queens. At the precise moment that they took wing, a colony of the same species that my wife was watching near the bottom of the mountain, also sent its queen on a wedding flight. There was, of course, no way could the two colonies have checked take-off time with each other.Entomologist Albro T. Gaul once jotted down in his notebook that a particular species of ant in northern Massachusetts began its wedding flight at a certain day and time. He later learned that another entomologist in New Jersey, 260 miles away, observed a wedding flight by the same species of ant, on the same day, and at exactly the same time! This split-second timing is not always the rule. However, most flights take place within a definite period of time.Birds also have built-in timepieces which send them off on fall and spring migrations. What the birds really have is a clock-like mechanism which allows them to time hours of darkness or light in each day. But what sends birds northward again in the spring? New research by Dr. Albert Wolfson of Northwestern University seems to indicate that the timing of return flight is extraordinarily complex. In the fall of the year the short days and long nights cause the “clocks” in migratory birds to undergo a kind of “winding” in preparation for their spring return and breeding. Then during the late fall and winter as the clock “ticks”, certain physiological changes occur in the bird. The length of each day during the winter determines how fast the clock will run, and hence when the “alarm” will ring for the spring migration. The clock continues to run through breeding time, then stops-to be re-wound again the next fall.Scientists are now learning that many of the clocks of nature can be reset, speeded up or slowed down all for our benefit. Pioneering experiments at the U. S. Department of Agricultures research center in Beltsville, Maryland, have shown that plants can be helped to develop faster in less time. By increasing or lessening the hours of darkness in each day, the scientists have been able to turn plant growth off and on like an electric switch. New knowledge about natures living clocks has practical applications. For man, too, seems to follow daily rhythms. The amount of sugar in our blood stream varies with the time of day, as does our temperature. More of the cells in our skin and muscles divide during the night hours than during the day. By tinkering with the clocks of plants and animals, scientists may learn more about the fascinating way our bodies work.44. New knowledge about natures living clocks can help man to _.A. control his movements and activities B. tinker with the clocks of plants and animals to tell timeC. learn more about the fascinating way his body worksD. make better use of nature and keep wildlife healthy45. The underlined word “they” in the 5th line refers to _.A. the working ants B. the flights C. the young ant queens D. the bees46. How fast the birds clock will run is determined by _.A. a clock-like mechanism B. the length of each dayC. the split-second timing D. the birds breeding time47. Many of the clocks of nature can be _.A. set anew B. renew C. resetting D. put together(C). Questions 48 to 52: A good way of ridding yourself of certain kinds of dogmatism is to become aware of opinions held in social circles different from your own. When I was young, I lived much outside my own country in France, Germany, Italy, and the United States. I found this very profitable in diminishing the intensity of insular prejudice. If you cannot travel, seek out people with whom you disagree, and read a newspaper belonging to a party that is not yours. If the people and the newspaper seem mad, perverse, and wicked, remind yourself that you seem so to them. For those who have enough psychological imagination, it is a good plan to imagine an argument with a person having different bias. This has one advantage, and only one, as compared with actual conversation with opponents; this one advantage is that the method is not subject to the same limitations of time and space. I have sometimes been led actually to change my mind as a result of this kind of imaginary dialogue, and, short of this, I have frequently found myself growing less dogmatic and cocksure through realizing the possible reasonableness of a hypothetical opponent. Be very wary of opinions that flatter your self-esteem. Both men and women, nine times out of ten, are firmly convinced of the superior excellence of their own sex. There is abundant evidence on both sides. If you are a man, you can point out that most poets and men of science are male; if you are a woman, you can resort that so are most criminals. The question is inherently insoluble, but self-esteem conceals this from most people. We are all, whatever part of the world we come from, persuaded that our own nation is superior to all others. Seeing that each nation has its characteristic merits and demerits, we adjust our standard of values so as to make out that the merits possessed by our nation are the really important ones, while its demerits are comparatively trivial. Here, again, the rational man will admit that the question is one to which there is no demonstrably right answer. It is more difficult to deal with the self-esteem of man as man, because we cannot argue out the matter with some non-human mind. The only way I know of dealing with this general human conceit is to remind ourselves that man is a brief episode in the life of a small planet in a little corner of the universe, and that for aught we know, other parts of the cosmos may contain beings as superior to ourselves as we are to jelly-fish.48. A good way of ridding yourself of certain kinds of dogmatism is to become aware of opinions held in social circles _ your own.A. indifferent from B. similar to C. the same as D. different from49. In the sentence “Be very wary of opinions that flatter your self-esteem.,” “that” means _. A. very wary of opinions B. your self-esteem C. opinions D. very wary of 50. The underlined word “dogmatism ” refers to _.A. 教条主义 B. 教育信仰 C. 理想主义 D. 宗教信仰51. To imagine an argument with a person having different bias has one advantage, which is _ the same limitations of time and space.A. subject to B. not subject to C. necessary for D. worth52. The only way I know of dealing with this general human conceit is _.A. to forget ourselves that man is a brief episode in the life of a small planet B. to tell ourselves that man is a brief episode in the life of a small planet C. to remind ourselves that man is a long episode in the life of a small planetD. to remind ourselves that man is not as superior as jelly-fish(D).
