Chapter One Let Others Light Their Candles1. If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it .2. Try to learn something about everything and everything about something. 3. In youth we learn ; in age we understand.4. Learn as though you would never be able to master it; hold it as though you would be in fear of losing it.5. Education is only the ladder with which to gather fruit from the tree of knowledge, not the fruit it self.6. Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.7. Never seem wiser, nor more learned, than the people you are with. Wear your learning, like your watch, in a private pocket, and do not merely pull it out and strike it merely to show that you have one.8. It is important to watch what you put in your mind.9. Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed. 10. We cannot hold a torch to light anothers path without brightening our own.11.Trust should be the basis for all our moral training.12.To bring up a child in the way he should go, travel that way yourself once in a while.13. Parents must get across the idea that I love you always, but sometimes I do not love your behavior.14. Acquire new knowledge whilst thinking over the old, and you may become a teacher of others. 15.
