new elements (radium and polonium, two radioactive elements that they extracted chemically from pitchblende ore) and studied the x-rays they emitted. she found that the harmful properties of x-rays were able to kill tumors. by the end of world war i, marie curie was probably the most famous woman in the world. she had made a conscious decision, however, not to patent methods of processing radium or its medical applications. marie curie was born november 7, 1867 in poland and died on july 4, 1934. her co-discovery with her husband pierre curie of the radioactive elements radium and polonium represents one of the best known stories in modern science for which they were recognized in 1901 with the nobel prize in physics. in 1911, marie curie was honored with a second nobel prize, this time in chemistry, to honor her for successfully isolating pure radium and determining radiums atomic weight. as a child, marie curie amazed people with her great memory. she learned to read when she was only four years old. her father was a professor of science and the instruments that he kept in a glass case fascinated marie. she dreamed of becoming a scientist, but that would not be easy. her family became very poor, and at the age of 18, marie became a governess. she helped pay for her sister to study in paris. later, her sister helped marie with her education. in 1891, marie attended the sorbonne university in paris where she met and married pierre curie, a well-known physicist. marie curie contributed greatly to our understanding of radioactivity and the effects of x-rays. she received two nobel prizes for her brilliant work, but died of leukemia, caused by her repeated exposure to radioactive material.51. what is the main idea of the passage?a. to give us a general introduction to madame curie.b. to show us how madame curie discovered radium.c. to tell us how madame curie developed as a scientist.d. to tell us how madame curie received two nobel prizes. 52. madame curie was given the nobel prize in chemistry because_.a. she discovered radiumb. she separated pure radium and calculated its atomic weightc. she discovered poloniumd. she didnt patent methods of processing radium 53. we can infer from the third paragraph that_. madame curie got married when she was at college.madam curie had a great ambition when she was young.madame curie loved teaching more than anything else.madam curie must have met a lot of difficulties to get high education.her father had a great influence on madam curies future career.madam curie was very smart when she was a childa. b. c. d. 54. which is the right order about madam curie according to the passage? a. married pierre b. attended university c. discovered radium d. determined radiums atomic weight e. won the nobel prize in physics a. b, c, a, d, e b. b, a, c, d, e c. b, a, c, e, d d. b, c, a, e, dways to improve conversation skills i believe that one of the best ways to connect with people and build quality relationships is through making conversation. although most people can hold a conversation, only a few are smooth and charismatic when they talk.working as a communication coach, i have explored and tested many techniques for improving conversation skills. i have discovered some simple and effective ways to be a smooth talker. here they are: 55. _ typically, good talkers dont rush into a conversation. they take their time when they reflect on something and when they say it out loud. they act as if they have all the time in the world. this makes them come off as centered and collected. model this way of talking and you will create the same effect.56._people with good conversation skills tend to notice the kind of things that the average person doesnt notice, and to bring such details into the conversation. they may notice and point out an interesting ring on the other persons hand, a certain foreign accent, or a certain voice tone they use when saying a name. thus, such individuals impress people in a very elegant manner.57._ anybody can pay a general compliment to try and get another persons appreciation. some people on the other hand are able to really pay attention to others, to look beyond their appearance and thus, pay unique compliments. do the same and besides wining others, you may even help them find out things about themselves they didnt know.58. _its very rare to meet a person who is comfortable talking about their emotions and how certain things make them feel, especially with strangers. yet this way of talking is a real virtue. dont just present the facts, youre not a newspaper. express your feelings about those facts. keep in mind that it is at the emotional level that people connect best.59. _anybody can talk about the news or express basic opinions. but good talkers can frequently tell you things you didnt know and that youll find fascinating. this is why its good to have knowledge into fields such as psychology or sociology, and bring such knowledge out at the right moments in a conversation.conversational skills dont improve just like that. it takes time, practice and the ability to learn at a rapid rate from your own experiences. on top of this, they have virtually no limit to how far they can be developed. considering your relationships and social life constitute one of the fundamental components of your life, i believe it is worth embarking on a long-term journey of mastering your interpersonal abilities. its a journey you wont regret.卷ii (非选择题 满分25分)五、单词拼写(共10小题;每小题0.5分,满分5分)60. ive a_ only half of
