1 Once upon a time, there lived a beggar and a banker. The first one was poor _ the second one was rich. So there was no _ that the banker will be happier than the beggar. But their natures were _. The banker was annoyed by the fact that he tossed(翻覆) and turned in his bed at night. The beggar slept peacefully and always awoke rested and full of energy. One day the banker could stand it no longer. He decided to find out why the beggar was a _ man. So he called him to his house and asked him his income because he believed that _ could only be measured in terms of wealth. But the beggar answered, “ I dont count too well, nor do I really _. I live each day as it comes and never worry about the next.” The banker liked the beggar. He wished to thank him for coming to his house, so he presented the poor man with a bag of a hundred gold coins. Now, these coins, which meant so _to the banker, seemed a great fortune to the beggar. He decided to _ the bag, so that he would have the money if ever he should need it. So, when he retuned to his house, he dug a big hole in a secret corner of the _, threw the bag in to it, and coed it with dirt. But from that day on, the poor mans life _ -he began to worry about the safety of his money every night he slept a little, and each time he heard the slightest sound, he became anxious about the safety of his coins, finally, he could bear his unhappiness no longer. He went to the garden, dug up the coins and returned them to the banker. 1. while 2. doubt 3. different 4. happy 5. money 6. care 7. little 8. hide 9. garden 10. changed2About ten years ago when I was an undergraduate in college, I was working as an intern at my Universitys Museum of Natural History. Do you let a bad driver, impolite waiter, rude boss,or an insensitive employee your day?One day I was in a taxi and we headed the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car drove out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his 39 ,slide sideways, and at the very last moment our car stopped and the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car looked around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just and waved at the guy. And I mean he was really friendly. So I asked,Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!” This is my taxi driver taught me what I now call The Law of the Garbage Truck. He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage up,they need a place to dump it and sometimes theyll dump it on you. Dont take it personally; Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.Believe me. Youll be happier. Dont their garbage and spread it to other people at work,at home,or on the streets, Lifes too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. The mark of your success is how quickly you can refocus on whats in your life. Roy Baumeister,a psychology researcher from Florida State University, found in his extensive research that you remember bad things more often than good things in your life. You store the bad memories more easily, and you them more frequently. So, Love the people who treat you right. Ignore the ones who dont. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you it!When you follow “The Law of the Garbage Truck, you take back control of your life. You make room for the good by go of the bad. I agree that those things are important, I believe that everyone should start to more on a growing problemglobal warming.Global warming will not only affect our country and our generation, but also the entire world and future generations. It is occurring because the weather has been a lot over the past few years, which in the melting(融化) of the ice in the Antarctic. This will soon cause water levels to and flood parts of the world. Many people ignore this problem because they feel as if they cant do anything about it and have more important things to worry about. If we all so, then our ozone layer(臭氧层) will be and the planet will no longer be able to make life continue to exist. We should do our best to limit the use of our planets resources (资源) and keep our air clean. , future generations will from our mistake. Some might feel that they cant global warming from continuing. But if every single person does his or her in keeping the air clean, then it will become a worldwide effort. Sure, there are some things that cause pollution and that we wont be able to fully change. This may include cars burning oil, but we can at least adjust some of these things. People can start carpooling, taking the bus, riding their bikes, or even just .If everyone takes now, I believe we can start seeing remarkable results within a few years.1.Although 2. focus / concentrate 3. warmer 4. result 5. rise 6. think / do 7. destroyed 8. natural 9. But just as I am about to do so, I find the article on the side is as much interesting. It may be a discussion of the way to in good health, or advice about how to behave and conduct oneself in society. If I cut the front article, the opposite one is likely to suffering , out half of it or keeping the text without the title. Therefore, the scissors(剪子)would stay before they start, or halfway done when I find out the regretful result.Sometimes two things are to be done at the same time, both worth your attention. You can only take up one of them, the other has to wait or be up.But you know the future is unpredictablethe changed situation may not allow you to do what is left . Thus you are in a difficult position and feel sad. How that nice chances and brilliant ideas should gather around all at once? It may happen that your life changes greatly on your preference of one choice to the other. In fact that is what is like: we are often faced with the two sides of a thing which are both desirable like a newspaper cutting. It often occurs that your is drawn to one thing only before we get into another. The may be more important than the latter and give rise to divided mind. I remember a philosophers remarks, “When one door shuts, another opens in life.” So a casual may not be a bad one. 1. across 2. opposite 3. keep 4. damage 5. leaving 6. given 7. behind 8. struck 9. come 10. life 11. opposite 12. attention 13. former 14. still 15. choice 8A boy was walking home from school when he saw a large, tempting (诱人的) apple on one of the branches of an apple tree out over a tall fence. The boy wasnt much of a fruit-eater, preferring a bar of chocolate if given the choice, , as they say, the forbidden fruit can be tempting. Seeing the apple, the boy wanted it. The more he looked at it, the he felt and the more he wanted that apple.Stretching as high as he could, but even at his tallest height he was unable to touch it. He began to up and down, as high as he could, at the top of each jump stretching his arms to get the apple. Still it remained out of .Not giving up, he thought, if only he had something to stand . His school bag wouldnt give enough height and he didnt want to the things inside, like his lunch box, pencil case, and Gameboy. Looking , he hoped he might find an old box, a rock, or, with luck, even a ladder, but it was a tidy neighborhood and there was nothing he could use. He had tried everything he could think to do. seeing any other choices, he gave up and started to walk . At first he felt angry and disappointed thinking about how hungry he had become from his efforts, and how he really wanted that apple. The more he like this, the more unhappy he became. , the boy of our story was a pretty smart guy, even if he couldnt always what he wanted. He started to say to himself, “This isnt helpful, I dont have the apple and Im feeling miserable as well. Theres nothing more I can do to get the applethat is unchangeablebut we are supposed to be able to our feelings. Later it was a fireman, policeman, lawyer . As I grew older my dreams of the future 1 . When, at last, I was in college, I made up my 2 to become a teacher(牧师) as my father. 3 I studied and prepared for that life. I reached 4 in the end and I was preaching(讲道)nearly fulltime for much of my adult life. However, for many, there is a “thief” which goes around stealing our 5 . Sometimes, the thief will come as a parent, a relative, or a friend, but the greatest thief is, so many times, just 6 . We find ourselves just about reaching the top, and this “small” 7 inside says, “You will never make 8 .” “You cant possibly do this.” And on and on the “small” voice predicts some kind of failure. Failure, though, is exactly how dreams are realized. It is one of the most important tools we have, because it teaches us invaluable 9 . And, when we learn these lessons well, we are ready 10 success. The message I always gave my children was that you are able to do anything your heart desires. Remember the saying, “Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.” There are 11 “overnight” successes, but with 12 , it will come. Imagine yourself in the life you dream of living. Then in your heart, believe it will happen for you. Then work, work, work. You get the picture. So, be true to your dream, and dont let anyone 13 it from youespecially yourself. 1. changed 2. mind 3.
