You dont show your secret personality when youre awake because you can control your behavior, but when youre asleep, your sleeping position shows the real you. At a normal night, of course, people frequently change their position. The important position is the one that you go to sleep in.If you go to sleep on your back, youre a very open person. You normally trust people and you are easily influenced by fashion or new ideas. You dont like to upset people, so you never express your real feelings. Youre quite shy and you arent very confident. If you sleep on your stomach, you are a rather secretive person. You worry a lot and youre always easily upset. Youre very stubborn, but you arent very ambitious. You usually live for today but not tomorrow. This means that you enjoy having a good time.If you sleep curled up(卷曲), you are probably a very nervous person. You have a low opinion of yourself and so youre often defensive. Youre shy and you dont normally like meeting people. You prefer to be on your own. Youre easily hurt.If you sleep on your side, you have usually got a well-balanced personality. You know your strengths and weaknesses. Youre usually careful. You have a confident personality. You sometimes feel anxious, but you dont often get depressed. You always say what you think even if it makes people angry.56. Which of the following is mentioned in Paragraph 2 about a persons personality? A. He/ She is always easily upset.B. He/ She always likes old things than others. C. He/ She is always open with others.D. He/ She never believes in others.57. The possible reason why you dont want to make friends with a person sleeping curled up is that _. A. he/she is too proud of himself/ herselfB. he/she is seldom ready to help you C. he/ she prefers staying at home to going outD. he/she would rather be alone than communicate with you 58. The writer tends to think highly of the person who sleeps on one side because _. A. he/she always shows mercy to people B. he/she is confident, but not stubborn C. he/she has more strengths than weaknesses D. he/she always offends people59. The passage is mainly developed by _. A. analyzing cause and effectB. presenting quotations C. classifying the facts in groupsD. testing an idea by reasoningBAre morning people born or made? In my case it was definitely made. In my early 20s, I hardly went to bed before midnight, and I would always get up late the next morning. But after a while I couldnt ignore the high relationship between success and rising early. On those rare occasions where I did get up early, I noticed that my productivity (效率) was always higher. So I set out to become a habitual early riser. But whenever my alarm went off, my first thought was always to stop that noise and go back to sleep. Eventually some sleep research showed that my strategy was wrong. The most common wrong strategy is this: supposing youre going to get up earlier, youd better go to bed earlier. It sounds very reasonable, but will usually fail. There are two main schools (流派) of thought on sleep patterns. One is that you should go to bed and get up at the same time every day. The second school says you should go to bed when youre tired and get up when you naturally wake up. However, I have found both are wrong if you care about productivity. If you sleep at fixed hours, youll sometimes go to bed when you arent sleepy enough. Youre wasting time lying in bed awake. My solution is to combine both methods. I go to bed when Im sleepy and get up with an alarm clock at a fixed time. So I always get up at the same time (in my case 5 a.m.), but I go to bed at different times every night. However, going to bed only when Im sleepy, and getting up at a fixed time every morning are my ways. If you want to become an early riser, you can try your own.60. According to the passage, the underlined phrase refers to _. A. people who stay up until the next morning B. people who get up early in the morning C. people who feel sleepy in the morning D. people whose productivity is the lowest in the morning61. Why did the author want to become a habitual early riser?A. Because he / she wanted to have more sleep time.B. Because he / she wanted to do morning exercise.C. Whats the authors sleep pattern?A. Going to bed early and getting up early.B. Going to bed late and getting up late.C. Going to bed when sleepy and getting up at a fixed early time.D. Going to bed early and getting up late. CDrinking Water: Bottled or From the Tap(水龙头)?In America, people will include a case or two of bottled water when buying the weeks groceriesWhen they are going to a soccer game or activity, its common for them to grab a cold bottle of water out of the fridge with themIn fact, Americans buy more bottled water than any other nation in the world, about 29 billion bottles a yearBut all these plastic bottles use a lot of fossil fuels and pollute the environmentIn order to make all the 29 billion bottles, producers use 17 million barrels of oil, which is enough to keep a million cars going for 12 monthsSo why dont people drink water straight from the tap? Some people have a strong belief that bottled water is better than water out of the tap, but thats not necessarily trueIn the US, the local governments make sure water from the tap is safeThere is also growing concern that chemicals in the bottles themselves may go into the waterPeople love the convenience of bottled waterBut maybe if they realized the problems it causes, they would try drinking from a glass at home or carrying water in a reusable steel container instead of plasticSome argue that plastic bottle recycling can helpRecycled bottles can be turned into items like carpeting or clothingUnfortunately, only one in six bottles is recycledThe rest make it to landfills(垃圾填埋场) or end as trash in other placesPlastic bottles take hundreds of years for them to disintegrateWater is important for you, so keep drinking itBut think about how often you use water bottles, and see if you can make a changeAnd yes, you can make a differenceRemember this: Recycling one plastic bottle can save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for six hours64How many cars can be kept going for a year by the oil used to make 29 billion bottles?A100 BI,000 C100,000 DI,000,00065Why do Americans prefer bottled water?ABottled water is better than water from the tapBBottled water is cheaper than water from the tapCBottled water contains beneficial chemicals in itDBottled water is more convenient than water from the tap66What does the underlined word disintegrate in the fifth paragraph probably meanABe well recycled BBecome less poisonousCBreak into small pieces DGo down below a surface67The authors intention of writing this passage is to recommend Americans_.Adrink more water from the tap Bsend plastic bottles to landfills .Cuse water bottles to power light bulbs Dbuy bottles filled with water from the tapDFrank Woolworth was born in Rodman, New York, in 1852. His family were very poor farmers, and there was never enough to eat. Frank decided he did not want to be a farmer. He took a short business course, and went to work as a salesman in a large city.Woolworth realized he had a natural skill for showing goods to attract peoples interest, but he soon learned something more important. One day his boss told him to sell some odds and ends (小商品 ) for as much as he could get. Frank put all these things on one table with a sign which said FIVE CENTS EACH. People fought and pushed to buy the things and the table was soon cleared.Soon afterwards, Woolworth opened his own store, selling goods at five and ten cents. But he had another lesson to learn before he became successful. That is, if you want to make money by selling low-price goods, you have to buy them in large quantities directly form the factories. Once, for example, Woolworth went to Germany and placed an order for knives. The order was so large that the factory had to keep running 24 hours a day for a whole year. In this way, the price of the knives was cut down by half.By 1919, Woolworth had over 1000 stores in the US and Canada, and opened his first store in London. He made many millions and his name became famous throughout the world. He always run his business according to strict rules, of which the most important was: “THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.”68. Frank sold the odds and ends quickly because _. A. he knew how to get people to buy his goods B. he cut down the price by half C. he had put the goods on a table in a very nice way D. the sign he put on the table was well designed69. The price of the knives was cut down by half because _. A. the factory workers worked 24 hours a day B. knives were ordered
