The forecast is written in clouds. If you can read that writing, you can tell something about the atmosphere. With some practice, you can become a pretty good weather forecaster. Who knows, you might even do as well as meteorologists(气象学家).Meteorologists use much more information than just the appearance of the clouds to make their forecasts. They collect data from all over the world. Then they plug it into powerful, high-speed computers. This does give meteorologists an advantage, because they can track weather patterns as they move from west to east across the country. But you have an advantage, too. You can look at the sky and get your data directly. Theres moisture throughout the atmosphere. Most of the time you dont see it, because its in the form of an invisible gas called water vapor. Sometimes, the temperature of the air gets cold enough to cause the water vapor to change to liquid water. Thats called condensation(凝结), and we see it happen all the time (for example, when humid air from the shower hits the cool glass of a mirror). When enough water vapor condenses, droplets(小滴)form in the air. These droplets scatter light and a cloud is visible.Watching clouds over a day or two tells you a lot more than a single cloud about the weather to come. Changes in clouds show changes in the atmosphere. Clouds are classified by their appearance and height. Layered clouds that seem to cover the sky are called status. They mean the air is stable and not changing rapidly with height. Some clouds look like individual balls of cotton called cumulus(积云), they mark the location of rising air, or thermals(热气流).You should begin to notice patterns. Certain clouds, following each other in order, can signal an approaching storm. But dont take our word for it; see for yourself.1. This passage aims to tell us about how _. A) to keep an eye on the clouds for weather forecast B) to train as a meteorologistC) to appreciate the beauty of clouds D) to change liquid water to water vapor2. According to the passage, meteorologists make their weather forecasts _. A) by looking up at the cloud patterns B) by watching the process of how water vapor formsC) by having experiments all over the worldD) by using power computers to analyze data collected all over the world3. An ordinary person has an advantage over a meteorologist in weather forecast because he can_.A) make use of a high-speed computerB) carry out a complex process of calculationC) watch the sky and forecast the weather directlyD) consult a weather station4.The word condensation in this passage most probably means changing to _.A) a liquidB) a vaporC) a gasD) a solid5. Opinions vary widely. Given approximately equal qualifications and circumstances, some claim the success factor is largely a matter of luckbeing in the right place at the right time. Others speak of an almost crazy devotion to work, combined with a degree of pitilessness. One expert maintains that its undoubtedly a matter of how much education your mother had.To make it big, executives must possess four basic skills:First, drive. Business success takes an unusual amount of energy. A successful executivealmost by definition is a striver(奋力拼搏的人). He will get tense when he is not striving.Second, people sense. Some say being able to judge people is more important than a high IQ. The skill can be instinctual, but in most cases it is painstakingly learned.Third, communications ability. Different executives make themselves understood in different ways. Some transmit ideas best face to face; others are masters of the telephone call; still others are persuasive writers. One way or another, they all communicate clearly.Fourth, calm under pressure, without which no businessman will get very far. 6.
