is true that international contests encourage false national pride and lead to misunderstanding and hatred.there is probably some truth in both arguments, but in recent years the olympic games have done little to support the view that sports encourage international brotherhood.not only was there the tragic incident involving the murder of athletes, but the games were also destroyed by incidents caused mainly by minor national competition.one country received its secondplace medals with visible anger after the hockey final.there had been noisy scenes at the end of the hockey match, as the losers objected to the final decisions.they were convinced that one of their goals should not have been disallowed and that their opponents victory was unfair.their manager was quite angry when he said: “this wasnt hockey.hockey_and_the_international_hockey_federation_are_finished.” the president of the federation said later that such behavior could result in the disorder of the team for at least three years.the american basketball team announced that they would not give up first place to russia, after a disputable end to their contest.the game had ended in disturbance.it was thought at first that the united states had won, by a single point, but it was announced that there were three seconds still to play.a russian player then threw the ball from one end of the court to the other, and another player popped it into the basket.it was the first time the us.a. had ever lost an olympic basketball match.experts discussed the matter for four and a half hours before announcing that the result would stand.the american players then voted not to receive the silver medals.incidents of this kind will continue as long as sport is played competitively rather than for the love of the game.the suggestion that athletes should compete as individuals, or in nonnational terms, might be too much to hope for.but in the present organization of the olympics there is far too much that encourages aggressive patriotism.31according to the author, recent olympic games have _.acreated goodwill between the nationsbcaused only false national pridechardly showed any international friendshipdled to more and more misunderstanding and hatred32what did the manager mean by saying, “hockey and the international hockey federation are finished.”?ahis team would no longer take part in international games.bhockey and the federation are ruined by the unfair decisions.cthere should be no more hockey matches organized by the federation.dthe federation should not exist.33the basketball example implied that _.atoo much patriotism was shown in the incidentbthe announcement to make the match long was wrongcthe appeal jury was too hesitant in making the decisiondthe american team was right in receiving the silver medals34what conclusion can be drawn from the passage?athe organization of the olympic games must be improved.bathletes should compete as individuals in the olympic games.csport should be played competitively rather than for the love of the game.dinternational contests are liable for misunderstanding between nations.bcompared to adults, children seem to be moving constantly.so its no surprise that most parents who are quizzed about their childs physical activity level describe their children as fairly active.but a new study of nearly 2, 000 british school children suggests that many parents overestimate the amount of physical activity their children are really getting.the researchers equipped 1, 892 british school children, ages 9 and 10, with accelerometers that measure all physical activity during a given time period.the research, known as the speedy study collected the exercise data from children at 92 schools in norfolk, england, between april and july 2007. a child was regarded inactive if he or she recorded less than an hour a day of physical activity.although the majority of children studied were getting enough physical activity, a_sizable_minority_of_children_were_not. overall, 39 percent of girls and 18 percent of boys studied were getting less than an hour of physical activity each day.but if you asked the parents of the inactive children to describe their childs activity level, the vast majority80 percentdescribed their children as fairly or very physically active, according to the findings published in the american journal of preventive medicine.interestingly, the children themselves had more awareness about their lack of physical activity.overall, 40 percent of children overestimated their physical activity.but it wasnt the parents of overweight children who were most likely to guess wrong about physical activity levels.the parents who were most out of touch about their childs physical fitness were more likely to have children who were slim.parents of girls were also more likely to overestimate physical activity.the researchers noted that parents should be educated about the importance of physical activity for children even if the child is not overweight.“parents of slim children appear to assume that their children are adequately active, ” the study authors reported.“increasing awareness regarding health benefits of physical activity beyon
