2014届高三英语二轮复习专题突破精品训练:阅读理解a i dont think comic book collector really applies to me at all. im probably more of a comic book appreciator. my interest has always been in what can be accomplished with the medium of visual story-telling. im not sure exactly where this interest of mine came from. i do know that as a child, comic books allowed me to improve my reading skills. “the mighty thor helped me develop an interest in old legends, and “challengers of the unknown got me crazy about science fiction. the combination of words and pictures was a perfect springboard for my childhood imagination. how does one learn to appreciate comic book art? there is a classic example that sheds quite a bit of light on the subject. writer scott macloud just explains what makes a comic book stand out in his best selling book understanding comics. the book, first published in 1994, has been translated into 13 languages and is practically a bible for students studying graphic illustration (图示说明) in novels. on the internet there are some cool comic book sites to be foundhundreds and hundreds of them as a matter of fact. more than a few are dedicated to super heroes and the like. but there are some choice sites that i would visit, because they provide some great resources that discuss the comic book as an art form. noteworthy among them is a great article and interview at www. rcharvey. corn, which discusses the impact of several artists and writers in the field. i have a huge admiration for anyone who can produce comic stories that can make readers think, laugh and cry. maybe make them dream. check it out. spend two dollars on a comic book and read it with your children. or better yet, search out some of the more “adult tides and read it for yourself. you may find yourself enjoying what you see and read. you may even find yourself wanting more. 1. what does the author mainly intend to talk about in paragraph 2?a. influence of comic books on reading in childhood.b. ways to improve happen in canfield.what are the facts, then? it is never easy to find out the exact truth about an accident. there was a fire at the sea breeze hotel last august: that is one fact. do we know anything the animal and save these in a dangerous situation. thats a move similar to what a texas a & m university researchers have been undertaking for the past five years in a project called noahs ark.noahs ark is aimed at collecting eggs, embryos(胚胎), semen and dna of these animals and storing them in liquid nitrogen. if certain species should become extinct, dr. duane kraemer, a professor in texas a & ms college of veterinary, medicine, says there would be enough of the basic building blocks to reintroduce the species in the future.it is estimated that as many as 2, 000 species of mammals, birds and reptiles will probably become extinct in over 100 years. the panda, native only to china, is in danger of becoming extinct in the next 25 years.this week, chinese scientists said they grew an embryo by introducing cells from a dead female panda into the egg cells of a japanese white rabbit. they are now trying to implant the embryo into a host animal.the entire procedure could take from three to five years to complete.the nuclear transfer of one species to another is not easy, but the lack of available panda eggs could be a major problem, kraemer believes. they will probably have to do several hundred transfers to result in one pregnancy (having a baby). it takes a long time and its difficult, but this could be groundbreaking science if it works. they are certainly not putting any live pandas at risk, so it is worth the effort, adds kraemer, who is one of the leaders of the project at texas a&m, the first-ever attempt at cloning a dog.they are trying to do something thats never been done, and this is very similar to our work in noahs ark. were both trying to save animals that face extinction. i certainly appreciate their effort and theres a lot we can learn from what they are attempting to do. the cooperation between us is very much needed.1. the final aim of noahs ark project is to_. .a. make efforts to clone the endangered pandas b. save endangered animals from dying outc. collect dna of endangered animals to study d. transfer the nuclear of one animal to another答案解析:答案为b。本题为细节题。由第二段内容可知,“诺亚方舟”项目的目的在于收集濒临灭绝的动物的卵子、胚胎、精子和dna,并用液体氮将它们储存起来。如果某些物种灭绝了,将会有足够的基础建设材料再造这些物种。最后一段第二句 “were both trying to save animals that face extinction.”又一次提到了这个项目的目的,即拯救濒临灭绝的物种。故答案为b。2. according to professor kraemer, _.a. the long time lasting cloning research could be successful.b. the eggs transfers immediately result in having a baby.c. the lack of nuclear transfer could be a major problem to have new pandas.d. if species should die out, basic building blocks would heal them.答案解析:答案为a。本题为推理题。由倒数第二段第一句话 “but the lack of available panda eggs could be a major problem”可知,c选项错误。由该段第二句话 “they will probably have to do several hundred transfers to result in one pregnancy (having a baby).”可知,b选项错误。由该段第三句话 “it takes a long time and its difficult, but this could be groundbreaking science if it works.”可知,这(细胞核移植)需要很长时间,而且难度很大,但是一旦成功,便会成为开创性的科学。言外之意就是长期的克隆研究技术或许能成功。故a选项正确。第二段提到 “if certain species should become extinct, there would be enough of the basic building blocks to reintroduce the species in the future.”,而 d选项 “如果物种灭绝,基础建设材料将治愈他们”夸大了基础建设材料的作用,与原文不符,故错误。3. the best title for the passage may be_.a. chinas success in pandas cloningb. helping ways to avoid extinctionc. exploring the possibility to clone pandas d. the practice in noahs ark答案解析:答案为c。本文为新闻报导类文章,第一段点出了文章的中心,中国在努力克隆濒临灭绝的大熊猫,从第二段起具体介绍duane kraemer对中国科学家克隆大熊猫的做法的评价,并与美国科学家正在从事的“诺亚方舟” 项目做了对比。文章最后一段表达了他们对中国同行所做的工作的高度评价。故最佳标题为c “探索克隆大熊猫的可能性”。4. from the passage we know that_.a. kraemer and his team have succeeded in cloning a pandab. scientists try to implant a pandas egg into a rabbitc. kraemer will work with chinese scientists in clone researchesd. about two thousand species are to die out in a century答案解析:答案为d。本题为细节题。由第三段第一句话 “it is estimated that as many as 2, 000 species of mammals, birds and reptiles will probably become extinct in over 100 years.”可知,d选项正确。a选项明显错误;由第四段第一句话 “this week, chinese scientists said they grew an embryo by introducing cells from a dead female panda into the egg cells of a japanese white rabbit.”可知,b选项错误。由最后一段最后一句话 “the cooperation between us is very much needed.” 可知,professor kraemer是说有必要合作,而不是将会与中国科学家一起致力于克隆研究, c选项与此表达不符,故不选。visiting u.s. president george w. bush said in beijing friday that both china and the united states should encourage bilateral(双边的) contacts and
