countys so-called biblio tech is a low-cost project with big ambitions. its first branch is in a relatively poor district on the south side of the city of san antonio. it has 100 e-readers on loan, and dozens of screens where the public are able to browse (浏览), study, and learn digital skills. it is a truly bookless library although that is not a phrase much to the liking of bibliotechs project co-ordinator, laura cole. she prefers the description “digital library” after all, there are books there, but in digital form. christopher platt, director of collections and circulation at the new york public library, argued that accessing a digital version of a book was not enough. “people travel from all over the world to our library, not just to access an item, but to touch it and feel it in order to get a sense of the overall importance of the work,” he said. but “bookless” does not mean “cheap”. publishers charge libraries up to five times the normal hardback (精装本) price for an e-book of a popular title, christopher platt said. and certain types of e-books simply do not work as well as printed books, especially when some library e-readers are still text-only. this was just one of many reasons, he felt, that bookless libraries would not be sweeping the board just yet. childrens author alan gibbons is a firm believer in the role of libraries, especially school libraries. working in international schools in china and thailand, mr. gibbons noted that even in the best schools where every child was given an ipad, the school library, stocked with real books, was seen as an important resource. christopher platt at the new york public library has another view on the bookless future: “its still early. weve spent 100 years getting the print stuff fight, so it could be a while before we get the e-stuff right.”28. what can we learn about the paperless public library in texas?a. it was built in a rich district. b. people can develop digital skills there.c. it cost a large sum of money. d. its the worlds biggest library.29. by saying “bookless does not mean cheap”, christopher platt means that _.a. travelling to the library costs foreign readers a lot b. e-readers are very expensivec. readers must pay to read in the digital library d. e-books are more expensive than printed ones30. the underlined phrase “sweeping the board” in paragraph 5 probably means _.a. fading out b. leaving quicklyc. becoming successful d. coming soon31. which of the following might alan gibbons agree with?a. school libraries with printed books wont disappear. b. asian children like printed books.c. asian children like electronic products. d. printed books in school libraries need improving.参考答案28-31 bdca 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(a、b、c和d)中,选出最佳选项。doctors are known to be terrible pilots. they dont listen because they already know it all. i was lucky: i became a pilot in 1970, almost ten years before i graduated from medical school. i didnt realize then, but becoming a pilot makes me a better surgeon. i loved flying. as i flew bigger, faster planes, and in worse weather, i learned about crew resource management (机组资源管理), or crm, a new idea to make flying safer. it means that crew members should listen and speak up for a good result, regardless of positions. i first read about crm in 1980. not long after that, an attending doctor and i were flying in bad weather. the controller had us turn too late to get our landing ready. the attending doctor was flying; i was safety pilot. he was so busy because of the bad turn, he had forgotten to put the landing gear (起落架) down. he was a better pilotand my bossso it felt unusual to speak up. but i had to: our lives were in danger. i put aside my uneasiness and said, “we need to put the landing gear down now!” that was my first real lesson in the power of crm, and ive used it in the operating room ever since. crm requires that the pilot/surgeon encourage others to speak up. it further requires that when opinions are from the opposite, the doctor doesnt overreact, which might prevent fellow doctors from voicing opinions again. so when im in the operating room, i ask for ideas and help from others. sometimes theyre not willing to speak up. but i hope that if i continue to encourage them, someday someone will keep me from “landing_gear_up”36what does the author say about doctors in general? a. they like flying by themselves. b. they are unwilling to take advice. c. they pretend to be good pilots. d. they are quick learners of crm.37the author deepened his understanding of the power of crm when_ a. he saved the plane by speaking up b. he was in charge of a flying task c. his boss landed the plane too late d. his boss operated on a patient38in the last paragraph “landing gear up” probably means_afollowing flying requirementsboverreacting to different opinionsclistening to what fellow doctors saydmaking a mistake that may cost lives39which of the following can be the best title for the text?acrm:a new way to make flying safebflying makes me a better doctorcthe making of a good pilotda pilotturned doctor【要点综述】 famous smog paintings.ricci is not a common artist, because he used smog as the main medium of his artworks.unlike other painters seeking fast recognition of their talent,he doesnt really care about “being this big artist”instead he is more concerned about bringing attention to how much smog there really is in his home town and how its destroying both its monuments and people.although he did take a couple of art classes a few years back,he is mainly selftaught, doesnt work in a studio, donates most of his work, and refuses to play by the rules of the florentine art gallery, which he considers city.alessandro lives with his parents nearby florence, but almost every day he visits the streets of the city, and collects smog for his paintings.he gets it from several meters above ground, from clean surfaces like marble, plastic and stone, using damp pieces of cotton.then he applies the smog directly onto a cloth and creates street scenes and reproductions of the very buildings from which he got the dangerous material.finally,he seals his paintings with a natural resin (树脂)his actions helped win a small victory for the people of florence,as in october 25,2012 the duomo area of the city was (a、b、c和d) 中, 选出最佳选项。(2013江苏,c)if a diver surfaces too quickly, he may suffer the bends. nitrogen(氮) dissolved (溶解)in his blood is suddenly liberated by the reduction of pressure. the consequence, if the bubbles (气泡)accumulate in a joint, is sharp pain and a bent bodythus the name. if the bubbles form in his lungs or his brain, the consequence can be death. other airbreathing animals also suffer this decompression(减压)sickness if they surface too fast: whales, for example. and so, long ago, did ichthy osaurs (鱿). that these ancient sea animals got the bends can be seen from their bones. if bubbles of nitrogen form inside the bone they can cut off its blood supply. this kills the cells in the bone, and consequently weakens it, sometimes to the point of collapse. fossil(化石)bones that have caved in on themselves are thus a sign that the animal once had the bends. bruce rothschild of the university of kansas knew all this when he began a study of ichthyosaur bones to find out how widespread the problem was in the past. what he particularly wanted to investigate was how ichthyosaurs adapted to the problem of decompression over the 150 million years. to this end, he and his colleagues traveled the worlds naturalhistory museums, looking at hundreds of ichthyosaurs from the triassic period and from the later jurassic and cretaceous periods. when he started, he assumed that signs of the bends would be rarer in younger fossils, reflecting their gradual evolution of measures to deal with decompression. instead, he was astonished to discover the opposite. more than 15% of jurassic and cretaceous ichthyosayurs had suffered the bends before they died, but not a single triassic specimen(标本)showed evidence of that sort of injury. if ichthyosaurs did evolve an antidecompression means, they clearly did so quicklyand, most strangely, they lost it afterwards. but that is not what dr rothschild thinks happened. he suspects it was evolution in other animals that caused the change. whales that suffer the bends often do so because they have surfaced to escape a predator (捕食动物)such as a large shark. one of the features of jurassic oceans was an abundance of large sharks and crocodiles, both of which were fond of ichthyosaur lunches. triassic oceans, by contrast, were mercifully sharkand crocodilefree. in the triassic, then, ichthyosaurs were top of the food chain. in the jurassic and cretaceous, they were prey(猎物)as well as predatorand often had to make a speedy exit as a result.
