江苏省苏州市2014高考英语阅读理解寓乐于练阅读理解-a starving polar bears are eating one another in the arctic. flowers are blooming too soon and die. the ice caps are melting so fast that rising water levels will threaten coastal towns along florida within several decades. these are just a few examples of the serious consequences of climate change supported by a new analysis in nature. in the past three decades, average global temperatures have risen about 1 degree fahrenheit (0.6 degree celsius) and are projected to jump by about 3 degrees f (1. 7 degrees c) by the end of the century, says study lead author cynthia rosenzweig, who heads the climate impacts group at nasas goddard institute for space studies at columbia university in new york city. weve already seen that a relatively low amount of wanning, she says, can result in a broad range of changes. the unnatural warming caused by man-made greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide produced by cars and coal-powered plants, brings trouble for entire ecosystems. in north america alone, scientists have identified 89 species of plants, such as the american holly that have flowered earlier in the spring. in spain, apple trees bloom 35 days ahead of schedule in response to the higher temperatures. other wildlife, like the insects that use certain plants for food and the birds that feed on the insects, must then move forward their seasonal stirrings (萌动) and mating patterns to survive. to try to follow this time shift, some birds such as robins, the classic symbol of winters thaw(解冻时期) , are returning to colorado from their migrations (迁徙) some two weeks earlier than in years past. all these changes can throw a food chain in disorder. some bird species that arrive before the insects reappear may starve to death. around the world, plants and animals are waking up to an earlier alarm clock than they used to, says terry root, a biologist from stanford university. 1. what does the first paragraph mainly present to the readers?a. the survival of polar bears in the arctic.b. the terrible situation for the coastal town along florida.c. a brief description of what a warming world will look like.d. a new analysis of climate change in nature. 注意把握最后一句 “these are just a few examples of the serious consequences of”, 答案就不难选择。2. according to the passage, what has happened to plants as a result of warming climate?a. many species of plants have died out. b. some flowers have appeared ahead of time.c. apple trees have produced less fruit. d. plants have provided no food to birds. 由第三段 “in north america alone, scientists have identified 89 species of plants, such as the american holly that have flowered earlier in the spring. in spain, apple trees bloom 35 days ahead of schedule.” 3. what can be learnt about robins from the passage?a. they are good at telling the direction.b. they can predict the change of weather.c. they usually come back when spring comes. d. they have to move away for cool weather. 由倒数第二段 “to try to follow this time shift, some birds such as robins, the classic symbol of winters thaw, are returning to colorado from their migrations some two weeks earlier than in years past.” 4what does the passage mainly tell us?a. man-made warming changes natures clock.b. global warming is unavoidable.c. both plants and animals will change. d. people need to adapt to climate change. 结合全文内容,人类活动导致全球气温升高,造成了生态系统中动植物生物钟的紊乱,最后一段 “around the world, plants and animals are waking up to an earlier alarm clock than they used to,”再次点题。 阅读理解-awomen, be on your guard. there is a new male excuse for not listening to us.a recent study shows that men find it almost impossible to listen to what women say because their brains are out of synch(不同步的)with complex female tones. apparently, when men listen to other men about the things they care about, they use only the frontal area of their brains. however, when they listen to women its different story. they have to work much harder, employing a part of the brain that normally deals with music. so when a man tells you your voice is music to his ears, hes actually telling the truth, though not in a good way. im sure a lot of women could recall times when they have wasted hours explaining why they are completely right about everything in the world, only to wake up the next day to discover that not one brilliant point got through. those times when men havent listened to me, i just thought i was being ignored. i didnt realize i just wasnt singing their favorite music. if id realized i was being heard as music, i would have had a bit of fun with it. whenever i wanted a discussion, id have brought along my own band, complete with string and horn sections. it is difficult not to be suspicious of yet more scientific findings sparing men the blame because of their biology. isnt this slaves to biology all-purpose excuse wearing thin? its enough to make you wonder at what a strange helpless species men are -which part of the body will be beyond their control next. even if there is something in it, we have to take into account that most relationships are likely to become boring. thats the truth of the matter. male or female, your voice might start out as music to your beloveds ears. but finally it will end up as boredom. when your beautiful tones are there all the time, as they go about their daily business, you start to blend in a bit too much, until finally you become a kind of background noise. 1the author of this passage tries to _. a. throw doubts on a commonly accepted idea b. explain a commonly accepted idea as it is c. give some advice on a common problem d. argue against a common belief 答案解析:答案为b。 2according to the new study, men dont listen to women because _ . a. what women say are usually boring b. they dont care about what women say c. they cant deal with female voices d. they regard female voices as music 答案解析:答案为c。 3the underlined sentence in the fifth paragraph shows that the author is _. a. realistic b. humorous c. serious d. funny 答案解析:答案为b。 4what does the author think of the finding of the new study? a. she thinks it doubtful. b. she thinks it interesting. c. she thinks it needs further proof. d. she thinks it right. 由倒数第三段首句 “it is difficult not to be suspicious of ” 可知,本句话的同义词就是doubtful. 5the author would most probably agree that _. a. men should accept what women say b. women should talk less and do more housework c. however beautiful voices may be, they will finally become boring d. the relationship between men and women should always be improving 答案解析:答案为c。 从最后一段 “when your beautiful tones are there all the time, as they go about their daily business, you start to blend in a bit too much, until finally you become a kind of background noise.” 故答案为c. a、b未提及;倒数第二段首句提到了 “ most relationships are likely to become boring.” d选项与此不符,故错误。阅读理解 (2013天津,c)poet william stafford once said that we are defined more by the detours(绕行路)in life than by the narrow road toward goals. i like this image. but it was quite by accident that i discovered the deep meaning of his words.for years we made the long drive from our home in seattle to my parents home in boise in nine hours. we traveled the way most people do: the fastest, shortest, easiest road, especially when i was alone with four noisy, restless kids who hates confinement(限制)and have strong opinions about everything.road trips felt risky, so i would drive fast, stopping only when i had to. we would stick to the freeways and arrive tired.but then banner, our lamb was born. he was rejected by his mama days before our planned trip to boise. i had two choices: leave banner with my husband, or take him with me. my husband made the decision for me.that is how i found myself on the road with four kids, a baby lamb and nothing but my everlasting optimism to see me through. we took the country roads out of necessity. we had to stop every hour, let banner shake out his legs and feed him. the kids chased him and one another. theyd get back in the car breathless and energized, smelling fresh from the cold air.we explored side roads, catching grasshoppers in waisthigh grass. even if we simply looked out of the car windows at baby pigs following their mother, or fish leaping out of the water, it was better than the best ride down the freeway. here was life. and new horizons(见识)we eventually arrived at my parents doorstep astonishingly fresh and full of stories.i grew brave with the trip back home and creative with my disciplining technique. on an empty section of road, everyone started quarreling. i stopped the car, ordered all kids out and told them to meet me up ahead. i parked my car half a mile away and read my book in sweet silence.some road trips are by necessity fast and straight. but that trip with banner opened our eyes to a world available to anyone adventurous enough to wander around and made me realize that a detour may uncover the best part of a journeyand the best part of yourself. 16why did the author use to take freeways to her parents home?ait was less tiring. bit would be faster and safer. cher kids would feel less confined. dshe felt better with other drivers nearby. 17the author stopped regularly on the country roads to _.arelax in the fresh air btake a deep breath ctake care of the lamb dlet the kids play with banner答案:c细节理解题。 18what does the author discover from the trip according to paragraph 6?afreeways are where beauty hides. bgetting close to nature adds to the joy of life. cenjoying the beauty of nature benefits ones health. done should follow side roads to watch wild animals. 由here was life. and new horizons. 19why did the author ask the kids to get out of the car on their way back home?ato give herself some time to read. bto order some food for them. cto play a game with them. dto let them cool down. 20what could be the best title for the passage?acharm of the detour. bthe road to bravery. ccreativity out of necessity. droad trip and country life. 阅读理解-blisten carefully, working people, we would like to tell you something that could save your precious time and money! best of all, it is free!its “no”.what do you ask? well say it again: “no”.sweet and simple “no”.say “no” at your office and see how quickly that pile of work on your desk disappears.“saying no to others means you are saying yes to yourself, ” said leslie charles, a professional speaker from east lansing, michigan.“time is precious. people are spending money buying time. and yet we are willing to give up our time because we cant say no.” susie watson, a famous writer, said people who always say “yes” need to say “no” without guilt(内疚)or fear of punishment. “i would rather have someone give me a loving no than an obligated(强制的) yes, ” she said. susie watson says she feels “no” obligation to give an explanation when she says “no” either socially or professionally. does she feel guilty about it? “not at all, ” said watson, who is director of advertising and public relations at timex corp in middlebury, conneticut. “most people are afraid of saying no my advice is to say yes only if you dont mean no.” watson said “no” is the most effective weapon against wasting time. “every year there are more demands on your time other people are happy to use up your time, ” watson said. time saving appears to be “nos” greatest friend.“no” can be your new friend, a powerful tool to take back your life. “no” may even take you further in the business world than “yes”.“no” is power and strength. “no” now seems completely correct. “saying no isnt easy. but finally its greatly liberating,” charles said. but, he added, a “no” project needs to be worked on every day because it is hard to
