文档简介
专项提升:Module1阅读专练Section AOne day, at my grandmothers house, my cousin, Ivy, joined us for dinner. We had a delicious dinner. Then, the women and girls sat around talking about dieting and their weight. My aunt complimented Ivy who weighed 120 pounds on her skinny* look. My aunt said that she needed to go on a diet because she weighed almost 140 pounds. This comment hurt me because I weighed almost 160 pounds. So I said, I probably need to go on a diet, too. But I said this softly, so, hopefully, they wouldnt hear me. Ivy, however, was sitting right next to me and heard what I said. She took me into the other room. When I was in my last year of high school, I weighed 140 pounds, she said. I was so worried. I couldnt imagine whether there was any guy would want to be with me because I was fat. I tried eating less, dieting and doing exercise, but nothing seemed to work. That was when I realized that nobody is perfect. No skinny girl will ever be skinny enough for people to say that her figure is perfect, because then she would be considered unhealthy. I thought her words over the next few days and decided that I wouldnt let my weight rule my life. I wouldnt let it decide what I should and should not eat. I believe that nobody is perfect. So, whenever I start to worry about my weight, I say to myself, Do I have to go on a diet? I think not.Note:* skinny adj.极瘦的;皮包骨的Read the passage and choose the best answer to each question.1. Some people think that because some food is healthy, it wont taste good. To avoid this misunderstanding is the first step to learn to eat and prepare healthy food. Instead of buying canned1 fruit and vegetables, choose fresh ones that dont have added sugar or salt. If you must buy canned fruit, choose those that are packed in natural fruit juice. Canned vegetables may also have extra salt that is not necessary for the taste. Instead of cooking vegetables in oil, steam them and add spices or lemon juice for taste. With so many different spices available at the market, there is no need to use extra butter or salt. You can even mix some of your spices to create a unique taste of your own. Instead of having high-fat red meat, try to have poultry2 and fish. In addition, do not fry your meat, but bake it. Avoid cooking in vegetable oil and choose olive oil instead for a healthier choice. One of the biggest reasons for failing to lose weight is taking too many carbohydrates (碳水化合物). All carbohydrates turn to sugar, so its important to learn to eat healthier food that is made of whole grains, such as wheat bread and wheat flour. The whole grains do not turn to sugar when they are eaten yet provide us with the energy that we need to carry out our daily activities.Notes:1. canned adj.罐装的;听装的2. poultry n.禽的肉Read the passage and choose the best answer to each question.1. But it seems that some people are actually eating too much fruit, leading to health problems such as obesity1 and tooth decay. Theres no doubt that fruit can protect people against disease. However, people often forget that fruit like all food has calories2 too. And the calories in fruit can make you just as obese as those in chocolate can. However, eating too much fruit is not about lack of self-control. Fruit is packed with fructose(果糖)and this doesnt make you feel full. When we eat ordinary sugar, our body releases insulin(胰岛素)which tells the brain weve had enough to eat. High insulin levels reduce our appetite3, but fructose doesnt make us release insulin, so the brain doesnt get the message that you are full. Weight gain is not the only health problem related to too much fructose. Eating fruit can also damage your teeth. Chewing fruit releases sugar in the mouth, where it attacks the teeth. Sour citrus4 fruit can soften tooth enamel(牙釉质). Dont brush your teeth immediately after drinking orange juice! You would brush away some tooth enamel, raising the risk of tooth decay. Dried fruit is another problem. Because its not only high in sugar but also very sticky5, it can get stuck in your teeth for a very long time and cause tooth decay.
