bought new shoes was about a year ago,and at that time,my size was 7.M:Well,once you get to be in your twenties, your feet will stop growing,so your size is probably still 7.But lets measure them just in case.W:OK.so,that does it say?M:Well,it looks like your size is 8.No wonder your feet have been hurting.Youve been wearing shoes that are one size smaller!Text 7W:Whew!Thanks for stopping.Sometimes it can be impossible to get a cab in the rain.M:No worries.Where to?W:Im going to Fifth Avenue and East 22nd Street. No rush hour.Im one of the lucky ones.Usually,I would have an appointment around act in this situation.M:But Jason and Laura have been together for three years.Dont you think his reaction would be both anger and sadness?W:At this point,no.I think he would react the way most guys would, and then later on,we would see his real feelings.M:Im not so sure about that.W:Lets try it my way,and you can see how you feel when youre saying your lines. After that,if it still doesnt feel right,we can go back to the drawing board.Text 9W:Have you been watching the Euro 2015 football tournament?M:Just a bit. Why,have you?W:Of course!Ive really started to like football since I came to where those big guys wear helmets and violently run into each other.M:Yeah.Americans prefer watching sports that are fast, like basketball.I think basketball players are the greatest athletes on earth. What they can do just amazes me.But when I watch a soccer match,I just get bored. There arent enough goals.W:Well,I see what youre saying, but theres so much more to “soccer”,as you call it,than goals.Therere a lot of strategies involved. And in a tournament like the Euro 2015,its fascinating to see how the different countries have different styles of playing.Text 10Welcome back to Modern Parenting.Weve already talked about being open and honest with your kids, but there is one thing that all good parents do,and its surprisingly simple:read to your kids.Studies show that children are better prepared for school and tend to get better grades later on if their parents have a habit of reading to them from a young age.One study from Harvard University found that the number of books in the home was the single biggest factor related to success in school, more than the education or income of the parents!Reading is fun,and it can be an important part of relaxing at bedtime.Best of all,it gives parents an opportunity to communicate with their children and teach them about the world. Its never too early to start reading to your children. Many parents buy books for their kids long before they can talk, and some even start reading to their children before they are born!Trips to the library or the bookstore can be fun activities. or young families to do together. So parents,if youre wondering what to do with your kids tonight, remember:all you need is a good book!Thats all for Modern Partenting. This is Lesley,on 105.7 FM,saying good night.答案1.A2.C3.A4.C5.A6.B7.A8.A left? Thanks to Brazilian physician Claudio Gil Araujo, theres now a simple test you can perform right at home,in just a few seconds, that could predict how many years you have left to live.Araujo came up with the test after noticing that many of his patients, especially older ones, often have difficulty with simple feats of balance and strength, such as picking something up off the floor,or getting up out of a chair.Since balance and conditioning problems are known to increase the risk of dangerous falls and accidents, which might add chances to death,he wondered if a patients flexibility, balance and strength could be used as a measure for life expectancy.Of course, the test also needed to be simple. If it required expensive equipment or measuring devices, the test probably wouldnt be accessible to many people. So Araujo developed the sittingrise test,or SRT.It requires no equipment and can be performed within seconds. Its recommended that you wear loose or comfortable clothing.Begin by standing upright in the middle of a room.Without using your arms or hands for leverage, carefully squat into a crosslegged sitting position.Once youre comfortable, attempt to stand back up from the sitting positionagain, without using your arms for help. The test is scored on a point scale between 1 and 10.Each time you use an arm or knee for help in balancing during the test, you reduce one point from 10 possible points.Half a point is reduced each time you lose balance. It seems like a pretty basic test of conditioning, but Araujo found that it could predict life expectancy with alarming accuracy. He tested it on over 2,000 of his patients aged 51 to 80,and found that people who scored less than 8 points on the test were twice as likely to die within the next six years. Those who scored 3 points or less were five times more likely to die within that same time period.Araujos study was only performed on patients older than 50,so the results wont mean the same thing for younger individuals taking the test. But regardless of your age,the test should provide a useful benchmark for your overall health.21What does the passage mainly talk about?ASome effective tips on how to live longer and healthier.BActivities you can do at home to build up your body.CA simple test that could predict how long you will live.DThe relationship between habits and life expectancy.答案C主旨大意题。本文说明的是巴西医生Claudio Gil Araujo设计的用坐和起这种简单的测试就能够预测人还能活多久。文章第一段为主题段,下面各段都是围绕这一主题进行说明的。故选项C正确。22What do you know about the sittingrise test developed by Claudio Gil Araujo?AThe equipment and measuring devices are expensive.BIt takes quite a long time to test life expectancy.CIt requires no equipment and can be performed simply.DIt can only be used for patients older than fifty.答案C细节理解题。根据第三段内容对这个sittingrise test的描述可知选项C正确。23What might be the authors purpose in writing Paragraph 4?ATo explain why you need to have the test.BTo introduce the way to do the test properly.CTo show the importance of doing the test.DTo express respect to Claudio Gil Araujo.答案B作者意图题。文章第四段介绍了如何做这个测试。故选B。BAfter years of suffering headaches and poor digestion I spoke to a neurologist about my regular headaches and a nutritionist about my poor digestion, and they both told me I should be drinking up to three litres(升) of water a day for my body to function at its best.I decided to conduct an experiment. What would happen if I drank the recommended amount every day for a month? The photograph of me taken the day I started this trial demonstrates perfectlyand rather frighteninglywhat a lack of water does to a face.I am 42,but have to admit I look more like 52 in this picture, which is shocking. There are dark shadows under and around my eyes, which make me look exhausted,a lot of wrinkles and strange red blotches(疹斑),and my skin lacks any lustre(光泽)It looks dead. These symptoms are all evidence of poor hydration, apparently.Every system and function in our body depends on water. So I decided to see how I would look and feel if I drank three litres of water every day for 28 days.the results were astonishing.Three litres of water sounds like an awful lot.I visited my doctor to be sure there could be no adverse(不利的) health implications to increasing my water intake. He was very encouraging.Im enjoying lots of cups of tea. After four weeks, the results were astonishing. The dark rings and wrinkles under my eyes have disappeared.I really cant believe the difference in my face.I look like a different woman. My skin is almost as dewy(水灵的) as it was when I was a child. My flexibility has also greatly improved.I feel more energetic, leaner and healthier, and my friends tell me I look ten years younger.24What was the author advised to do every day? ATo eat more fruits and vegetables.BTo do more exercise.CTo drink more water.DTo have enough sleep.答案C细节理解题。根据短文第一段中的.and both told me I should be drinking up to three litres of water a day可知,作者被建议要每天饮用大量的水。25All the symptoms on the authors face implied that _Ashe was dying because of the illnessBshe was too busy to care about herselfCher face made others frightened Dher body was short of water答案D细节理解题。短文第二段作者从自己的照片中看到自己的面部衰老的情况,得出的结论是These symptoms are all evidence of poor hydration,apparently.由此可知选项D正确。26In order to make sure that increasing her water intake didnt do bad for her health, the author _Adid another experimentBvisited her doctorCread books for evidencesDasked for advice from her friends答案B细节理解题。根据短文第三段中的I visited my doctor to be sure there could be no adverse(不利的) health implications to increasing my water intake.可知选项B正确。27What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?AThe symptoms of lacking water.BThe advice to the readers.CThe advantages of drinking tea.DThe result of the experiment.答案D段落大意题。文章最后一段作者说明自己在实验四个星期以后,自己的面部、皮肤、身体以及精力方面的变化。故此可知,本段主要说明了她这次实验的结果。故选D。CWhoever said no news is good news was wrong.Turns out drinking red wine is better for you than going to the gym! Hows that for good news? Jason Dyck and other science researchers in the University of Alberta in Canada found that red wine, nuts and grapes have a complex called resveratrol(白藜芦醇) which improves heart, muscle and bone functions; the same way theyre improved when one goes to the gym.Resveratrol proved to be an effective antioxidant(抗氧化剂) when tested on small white rats which is why scientists are planning on testing it with patients. If results are positive for the benefits of the complex, patients heart health could be improved just as much as it does when they exercise in the gym. While scientists and wine lovers are happy with this news, doctors are still unlikely to recommend their patients to start drinking any type of alcohol as it can have harmful effects on your body.People should keep in mind that these benefits can be enjoyed only when having one glass of wine with your evening meal,at the most.Resveratrol is specifically found in red wine as are some of the beneficial antioxidants referred to when talking about heart health.Red wine is also known to reduce “bad cholesterol” and prevent blood clots(血栓)Other benefits red wine is known for (when consumed in moderation, constantly) are:promoting longevity, cutting risk of cataracts and colon cancer, reducing risk of Type 2 Diabetes and slowing down brain decline (which beer is known for, too.)We think these are good excuses to relax and rest with a glass of red wine every single night instead of going to the gym after a day of hard work.Remember:A glass of red wine per day is as beneficial as going to the gym.Bottoms up!28It can be known from the first paragraph that _Ared wine really does good to peoples health Bexercise plays a small part in improving health Cresveratrol has only been found in red wineDpatients with heart diseases need more exercise答案A推理判断题。根据第一段中的that red wine, nuts and grapes have a complex called resveratrol(白藜芦醇) which improves heart, muscle and bone functions可知,红酒中的白藜芦醇能够改善心脏、肌肉和骨骼的功能,由此推知红酒对健康有好处。29Doctors dont recommend their patients to drink wine because _Athe finding of the research has not been tested on patientsBdrinking any type of alcohol does great harm to the patientsCthey have different opinions on the finding of the researchDany type of alcohol has harmful effects on the patients答案D细节理解题。根据第二段第一句中的doctors are still unlikely to recommend their patients to start drinking any type of alcohol as it can have harmful effects on your body.可知,因为担心酒对身体有有害效应而不推荐病人饮用。30The purpose of the third paragraph is _Ato give the patients some adviceBto list diseases caused by drinking wineCto show some benefits of red wineDto persuade people to keep away from wine答案C推理判断题。文章第三段主要说明了红酒的一些好处。故选项C正确。31What is the authors opinion on drinking red wine?AA glass of red wine a day.BThe more, the better.CNever start drinking red wine.DDrink red wine with three meals.答案A细节理解题。根据短文内容特别是文章第一段Turns out drinking red wine is better for you than going to the gym!以及最后一段A glass of red wine per day is as beneficial as going to the gym.说明作者的观点是每天饮用一杯红酒。D“Compared with poems by other poetesses in China, hers stand out like a killer among groups of ladies,” Liu Nian, editor of the Chinese literary journal Poetry, said about Yu Xiuhuas works.“She is the poetess with cerebral palsy (大脑麻痹症) and Chinas Emily Dickinson,” he said. And her blog, previously with less than 200 followers, has now climbed to over 5,000 followers, with more than 400,000 hits. Her fans are not shy of expressing their love of her works. One left her a message:“Your poems moved me.
