Play a game to review the present progressive tense.One student will choose a card from the teacher, and then do as the card shows. The other students will guess what he/she is doing.2. Talk about pictures in 1a. After playing the game, talk about these pictures. They will discuss what he/she is doing and where he/she is.1. To arouse Students interests.2. To revise the present progressive tense. And get them ready for the new tense the past progressive tense.Step 2: Presentation1. From the weather report, students know the rainstorm happened in the past, so that they know they are talking about activities which are happening at the time of the past. First complete 1a.To prove the way for the past progressive tense2. Listen to the TV report and circle the correct responses. Complete 1b.To cultivate students listening skillTo understand the past progressive tense and pay attention to was/were+doing.3. After 1b, talk about what the girl/ the boy/ the woman/ the man was doing. A: What was the girl doing at the time of the rainstorm? B: She was.4. Have a summary of the present progressive tense and the past progressive tense.To let students know the past progressive tense better To know the differences between the past progressive tense and the present progressive tense.Step 3: PracticeLook at the four pictures, and make up conversations by using who/what/where/when. Then listen and number the pictures and complete 2a. After that listen again and complete 2b.To help students to use was/were +doing well.To help students to tell a story by using past tense and past progressive tense.Step 5: Retell the story 1. Listen again and draw a time chart according to the story, at the same time give out the key words or phrases. Then look at the time chart and retell the boys terrible day.2. After that, do the role-play for the conversation. One is the boy and the other is the TV reporter.To cultivate students skills of retelling stories and consolidate the past tense and past progressive again.Step6: role-play the conversation 1. First listen to the conversation and answer the questions “What was Linda doing at seven / eight / nine last night?” and “ Where was Linda?”.2. Then learn the differences between when and while, and after that do some exercises about them.3.
